C7 Finally, He Came to Teach the Enemy How to be a Human Being.
On his way, Jiang Hao's face contorted with distress.
"How dare they hit my dad? I'll make them regret being born!"
Jiang Hao clenched his teeth, silently vowing retribution.
The wait felt interminable, but finally, Jiang Hao reached Tianhai Hospital.
Tossing eight yuan to the driver, he dashed into the hospital and, after getting directions from the reception, hurried to the ward.
Upon entering, he found an average-looking middle-aged man in a hospital gown, hooked up to an IV—that was his father, Jiang Weiping.
Beside him, a middle-aged woman tended to him with gentle care—Jiang Hao's mother, Guo Chunlan.
And on the other side of the bed, a young girl with tear-streaked cheeks and red, swollen eyes watched over Jiang's father with deep concern—Jiang Hao's little sister, Jiang Zixuan.
Jiang Hao rushed to his father's side, his voice laced with anxiety.
"Dad, how are you feeling?"
Jiang's father, seeing his son, forced a reassuring smile.
"I'm okay, Hao. Just took a bad fall and bruised myself a bit!"
He concealed the truth from Jiang Hao, not wanting to burden him, especially with the college entrance exams just thirty days away. He couldn't bear the thought of affecting his son's future with his own troubles.
Jiang Hao, understanding his father's intent, chose to play along.
"Dad, you've got to be more careful. What's the doctor's prognosis?"
Jiang Hao asked, concern etched in his voice.
His mother interjected, "Your father will be alright. The doctor said a few days of rest should do the trick. Hao, your exams are coming up. You should head back and focus on your studies. You've got class tomorrow, remember?"
It was clear that both his sister and mother were keeping the full extent of the situation under wraps, likely at his father's behest.
"Don't worry, Mom," Jiang Hao reassured her. "I'm nearly done with my revisions. It won't be a problem."
But Jiang's father wasn't having it. He insisted that Jiang Zixuan and Jiang Hao leave to focus on their studies, sending them back home.
Feeling helpless, Jiang Hao and Jiang Zixuan stepped out of the hospital ward.
"Zixuan, what did the doctor say?" Jiang Hao asked with a frosty edge to his voice as they made their way to the lower levels of Tianhai Hospital.
Jiang Zixuan glanced at her brother, sensing a change in him. She hesitated briefly before speaking up.
"The doctor said Dad's rib is broken, but luckily it hasn't shifted. Everything else looks good. He just needs to take his medication regularly and rest for about three months to recover fully."
Jiang Hao exhaled in relief, but his thoughts quickly turned to the person who had hurt his father so badly, and anger bubbled within him.
"Do you know who did this to Dad? What was the reason?"
Jiang Zixuan appeared worried, hesitating and faltering in her response.
"Speak!" Jiang Hao demanded, his voice now a cold command, a departure from his usual demeanor.
Startled, Jiang Zixuan shivered before answering.
"It was Hong Liang. He demanded Dad pay a 'protection fee' of 2,000 yuan. Dad had only just started his stall; he didn't have that kind of money. Hong Liang took the 1,000 yuan Dad had earned. When Dad confronted him to get it back, Hong Liang's thugs beat him up."
Hearing this, Jiang Hao's fury was uncontrollable.
"Hong Liang, Hong Liang, you're going to pay for this!"
Seething, Jiang Hao spun around and delivered a furious punch to a small tree beside him.
"Ding! Tree detected. Would you like to decompose it?"
