C7 Glorious Banquet
The next day, Yang Wei rose early after enduring a painful ordeal. He rummaged through the fridge for a quick bite to eat before donning his inexpensive suit. He opted out of his usual uniform; as Ye Hua's temporary boyfriend, he couldn't afford the embarrassment of wearing that drab yellow outfit any longer.
After a brief grooming session in front of the mirror, Yang Wei admired his reflection. He had to admit, he looked rather dashing—the more he looked, the more handsome he seemed. Shaking off his vanity, he checked the time on his phone, made sure he hadn't forgotten anything, and headed downstairs.
Foregoing his electric scooter to avoid ridicule, he hailed a taxi instead. It wasn't long before Yang Wei arrived at the base of the company's building. As he stepped out of the cab, his phone buzzed insistently in his pocket.
It was Ye Hua calling. Raising an eyebrow, Yang Wei answered the call. A sweet voice greeted him on the other end.
"Great Hero Yang, you've arrived at the company, haven't you?"
"Yes, I'm right downstairs."
"Hurry up then. I'm waiting for you in the CEO's office. Today, you'll have an opportunity to shine."
"Alright, I'm on my way."
With a quick affirmation, Yang Wei adjusted his suit collar and entered the building. In the elevator, just as he pressed the button for the top floor, a mocking voice came from behind.
"Well, if it isn't Yang Wei? Skipping the uniform today, I see. That cheap suit—where'd you find it, at a street market? You do look the part, though."
"You're heading to the CEO's office floor? Do you really think a Takeaway Man like you belongs there? If you're here to resign, just leave your letter with me. Or did you come to pester Director Ye over some petty cash? I doubt she'll give you the time of day."
Yang Wei turned to see Zhao Dapeng, the general manager of Quick Arriving, smirking behind him.
A few days ago, they had a major disagreement over a deduction of 2000 yuan from his salary. Now, he actually believed that Yang Wei had stormed into the CEO's office over that same amount of money. Yang Wei couldn't be less interested in entertaining such a ridiculous notion.
Just then, with a crisp "ding," the elevator doors slid open, revealing a woman with a striking figure standing at the threshold. Yang Wei recognized her as Su Xiaoman, Ye Hua's personal secretary. While her features weren't as delicate as Ye Hua's, her shapely figure was nearly on par.
Su Xiaoman greeted Yang Wei with a smile. "You must be Mr. Yang?"
"Yes, that's me."
"Please follow me. Director Ye is waiting for you in her office."
The smile vanished from Su Xiaoman's face as she turned to address Zhao Dapeng with an icy tone. "Director Ye is not available to meet with anyone at the moment. Manager Zhao, please leave."
"I need to speak with Director Ye urgently."
"As I said, Director Ye is not seeing anyone right now. Please leave."
Su Xiaoman's expression grew even sterner. Zhao Dapeng, resigned to his fate, pressed the button for his office floor. As the elevator doors closed, he muttered darkly, "Damn it, how dare a mere secretary talk to me like that?"
"Is Yang Wei being kept by that Ye woman? He must be. He's always in uniform, but today he's parading around in that cheap suit like he's something special. They're both despicable!"
At the entrance to Ye Hua's office, Su Xiaoman knocked gently. "Director Ye, Mr. Yang has arrived."
Ye Hua's sweet voice responded from within, "Come in."
With utmost respect, Su Xiaoman opened the door. Yang Wei gave her a brief look but remained silent as he entered. Su Xiaoman then quietly closed the door behind him.
Inside, Ye Hua was seated on the couch, smiling warmly at Yang Wei and inviting him to sit. Without any hesitation, Yang Wei chose a spot on the sofa and settled in.
Upon seeing Yang Wei take a seat, Ye Hua couldn't help but flash a mischievous smile.
"Great Hero Yang, I need your help with something this time."
Yang Wei was at a loss for words. Did she really need to flirt every time she had a request?
Noticing Yang Wei's flushed face and his silence, Ye Hua chuckled. "Lee Da, the chairman of Quick Passing Group, is celebrating his sixtieth birthday today with a grand banquet at the Stellar Building. He's invited guests from all over, and he's made it clear that my attendance is non-negotiable. We both know this is likely a setup, so just to be safe, I need you, Great Hero Yang, to stay close by my side."
Truth be told, Yang Wei wasn't keen on attending the old man's birthday banquet, a place rife with bourgeois intrigue. He preferred to steer clear of such murky waters. However, he had made a commitment to ensure Ye Hua's safety, so he had no choice but to attend.
"Okay."
At his response, Ye Hua's face lit up with a radiant smile. "I knew you'd agree, Great Hero Yang. After all, you did promise to keep me safe." She then turned and retrieved a suit from behind her. "You're my temporary boyfriend now, and since you've agreed to accompany me, you can't dress too casually. I had this suit custom-made for you. Try it on and see if it fits."
Yang Wei gazed at the suit with mixed emotions. Such a costly garment was probably worth more than his annual salary.
"What's the matter? Don't you like it?"
"No, I love it," he replied.
Pleased, Ye Hua gestured towards the changing room in the corner and said with a smile, "If you like it, then go on and try it on."
A few minutes later, Yang Wei emerged from the changing room. Ye Hua caught sight of him and felt her cheeks warm up. Yang Wei was naturally handsome, with jet-black hair and slender, almond-shaped eyes that hinted at a romantic nature, capable of captivating anyone who wasn't careful. His prominent nose and well-shaped lips were now curved into an enchanting smile.
Indeed, he looked every bit the dashing prince, his mischievous grin sending soft ripples across his expressive eyebrows, as if he carried the joy of the world in his gaze, reminiscent of a bright crescent moon in the night sky.
Yang Wei felt a bit self-conscious as Ye Hua's gaze fixed intently on him. "How does it look? Is it... okay?" he asked.
Ye Hua flashed a mischievous smile. "It looks good. Let's get ready and head out."
Noon at the Stellar Building, the grandest hotel in Lengjiang City, where countless dignitaries hosted their guests and banquets, a symbol of status and identity.
A limited edition Rolls-Royce pulled up and came to a gentle stop at the entrance of the Stellar Building. Ye Hua gracefully stepped out, arm in arm with Yang Wei.
Today, the Stellar Building was the venue for a lavish banquet. The host was none other than Lee Da, the chairman of Quick Arriving Group and the longstanding rival of Quick Passing Group.
The place was bustling as a multitude of prominent figures arrived at the Stellar Building to partake in the "Grand Banquet," an event aimed at the Quick Arriving Group.
