C18 Ghost Faced Demonic Spider
"Ghost Faced Demonic Spider!"
A voice echoed in Lin Yaoyang's mind, clearing up his confusion.
Lin Yaoyang's face went pale when he realized it was a Ghost Faced Demonic Spider. My God! How on earth could he have stumbled upon such a creature here?
It was common knowledge that the combat prowess of a Ghost Faced Demonic Spider was on par with that of an eighth or even ninth-level martial master.
Typically, one would have to venture deep into the Demonic Beast Forest, scaling at least two or three mountain peaks, to encounter demonic beasts of such caliber.
Yet here they were, at the very edge of the Demonic Beast Forest, where one would normally only find Green Pythons ridden by first-grade martial masters or Demonic Tigers ranging from second to third grade. The presence of an eighth-grade martial master level Ghost Faced Demonic Spider was unthinkable.
Lin Yaoyang trusted the information from the system in his mind implicitly; it never misled him. Whenever he had questions, it provided the most comprehensive answers.
Shortly after Kou Quan and his group had fled, Lin Yaoyang noticed something was off. They had entered as a party of four, but only three emerged. Without question, someone had met their end inside.
Kou Quan's expression was grim as he steadied himself, just as a shadow burst from the trees behind him.
"Swish!"
A dark figure shot out, barreling towards the group without hesitation.
Its target was Kou Quan. He was no ordinary man; he knew it was too late to look back, and instead of bracing for the spider's strike, he channeled all his Qi into his feet and propelled himself forward with explosive force.
Kou Quan's desperate lunge carried him four or five meters away in a flash, narrowly evading the deadly thrust of the spider's leg.
Though Kou Quan escaped, his companions weren't as fortunate. The spider's leg, sharp as a spear, impaled one of them through the chest, killing him instantly.
A sinister black glow emanated from the spider leg embedded in the mercenary's chest. The color drained rapidly from the man's face, and within mere seconds, the victim caught by the spider had turned deathly pale, his flesh seemingly devoured by the demonic creature.
He was nothing but skin and bones, not an ounce of excess on him. The sight was truly horrifying. Once the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider came to a halt, Lin Yaoyang finally had the chance to study it closely. Indeed, it matched the image of the demonic spider he had etched in his memory.
Trouble had certainly found them this time! Kou Quan's face was a mask of dismay. Fear was etched on the faces of the surrounding mercenaries. The Demonic Beasts they typically hunted were on par with their own strength. Most sought safety by targeting weaker creatures. Even when they faced stronger beasts, they were only at the first or second level of the Martial Master realm.
With their numbers, they could usually dispatch a Demonic Beast without anyone getting hurt. But facing a Ghost Faced Demonic Spider, an eighth-level Martial Master, was a different story. Being a Demonic Beast, it had a natural, terrifying advantage. Victory and superiority couldn't be easily claimed by sheer numbers anymore.
An average Level 9 Warrior couldn't even scratch the spider's tough exoskeleton. And with its razor-sharp spider legs, killing these vulnerable humans would be all too easy for the beast.
To the demonic spider, these slow-moving humans were nothing more than chunks of scurrying fat meat, ready to be impaled and devoured in just a few strides.
Kou Quan realized that the only ones who could make a difference now were himself, Lin Yaoyang, and the enigmatic woman in the black robe.
Kou Quan turned to Lin Yaoyang and called out, "Brother, you must see the gravity of our situation. We can't afford to hold back any longer. If we do, we're all as good as dead."
Lin Yaoyang nodded in agreement. He was well aware of the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider's terror and was prepared to attack with full force. Glancing at the black-robed woman, he noticed she had produced a staff nearly as tall as a person from seemingly nowhere.
Lin Yaoyang's eyes narrowed in speculation. Could this black-robed woman be a mage? But even if she were, what of it? Even as a mage of the Martial Master Level, the number of spells she could cast, whether offensive or supportive, remained to be seen.
Becoming a mage without someone to back you up, providing a steady stream of spells for your studies, is a daunting task. If you have to painstakingly search for each spell on your own, the mage's path is fraught with difficulty.
Lin Yaoyang could only give the black-robed woman a surprised glance. It was as if she sensed his gaze; she turned and smiled at him. Despite the veil covering her face, Lin could see the smile in her eyes and knew she was smiling at him.
He hadn't expected the black-robed woman to have such a strong mental fortitude, managing to smile at him even in such a tense situation. Clearly, she was no ordinary character.
Lin Yaoyang didn't dwell on it. The immediate priority was to deal with the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider. He had just approached the creature, which stood opposite him, but it wasn't playing by the rules. It wouldn't wait for Lin Yaoyang and his companions to take their positions and prepare before launching an attack.
The Ghost Faced Demonic Spider, with all eight of its spider legs planted firmly in the ground, suddenly propelled itself forward with explosive force, charging straight at the black-robed woman. Perhaps it had sensed a hint of energy from the hair the woman had taken out, which put it on alert.
The Ghost Faced Demonic Spider, known for its high intelligence and cunning, immediately targeted the black-robed woman, aiming to take out the one it perceived as the greatest threat.
The black-robed woman, seeing the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider barreling towards her, remained composed, without a hint of panic. She brandished her staff, speaking with authority as if reciting an incantation.
Suddenly, with a wave of her staff, the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider's advance noticeably slowed.
As the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider made its move, Lin Yaoyang sprang into action. As the creature charged at the black-robed woman, Lin Yaoyang charged at the spider, determined to intercept it and prevent any harm to the woman.
Before it had made much distance, the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider abruptly slowed its pace. Lin Yaoyang peered intently and noticed that several green vines had sprung up from the ground, tightly entwining the spider's legs and hindering its advance.
Yet the power of the Ghost Faced Demonic Spider was immense, not something that could be simply restrained by the vines. They were ripped asunder in moments, but relentlessly, a continuous surge of new vines latched on, persisting in their attempt to hold it back.
