C18 18] Contract Canceled
"Yes."
Mi Xue gave a slight bow and exited the office.
Meanwhile, Su Hai was nervously awaiting in the conference room.
He wrung his hands. The collaboration had been Su Miao's doing, yet his grandmother had handed him the accolades. A few words from him and he'd reaped all the credit, basking in the spotlight. It felt incredibly satisfying.
Now, here he was at Huanyu to discuss their artists. Wasn't this deal practically in the bag?
Rumor had it that Huanyu's latest signee, Liu Rui, was stunningly beautiful with a tall, alluring figure.
Armed with Huanyu Group's resources and his tailored promotional strategy, Liu Rui was poised to become a national sensation.
The Su family was sure to rake in a fortune, and he'd be the one to claim all the glory.
"Mr. Su."
Just then, Mi Xue entered the meeting room, snapping Su Hai out of his daydream.
Upon seeing Mi Xue, Su Hai rose to his feet, his face breaking into a grin. "Assistant Mi, what's the word from the chairman? Is the Su family cleared to start promoting Liu Rui?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Su," Mi Xue replied with a slight nod. "Our chairman has instructed you to leave the company. Furthermore, the contract between the Su family and Huanyu is null and void as of today."
"What!?" Anger flashed across Su Hai's face. "Why would our contract be canceled? Doesn't Huanyu honor its agreements?"
"Mr. Su, watch your language," Mi Xue's expression grew stern as she folded her arms. "If you slander our company, our legal department will take action."
Her words sent a chill down Su Hai's spine. This was Huanyu Group, and he was in no position to challenge them.
He forced a smile, more pained than joyful, and said, "Assistant Mi, please, no offense meant. But we just signed that contract yesterday, and now you're terminating it. How can I possibly explain this back home?"
Hearing Su Hai's plea, Mi Xue's demeanor softened. "Our chairman made it clear that the previous negotiations were with Su Miao. Huanyu agreed to collaborate with the Su family on her account. Going forward, all projects must be personally handled by Su Miao. We will not conduct business with any other members of the Su family."
After he finished speaking, several burly security guards escorted Su Hai away.
At the Manor of the Su Family.
Su Hai knelt before Old Madame Su, his face streaked with tears and snot. "Grandma, the Huanyu Group is going too far. They've thrown me out of the company again..."
Old Madame Su had just taken a sip of tea and nearly choked on it. She managed to swallow with difficulty and asked, bewildered, "What are you saying? You've been thrown out by Huanyu again? But didn't we just strike a deal with them?"
"Grandma," Su Hai said, still kneeling, unable to lift his gaze, "the Huanyu Group has declared that, effective immediately, they're severing ties with the Su family..."
"Grandma, how can the people at Huanyu Group be so unreasonable?" he lamented.
"Yes, Grandma, we've already signed the cooperation agreement. Huanyu Group is unilaterally backing out—they're in breach of contract. We could take them to court!" another voice chimed in.
"Exactly, Grandma. I've reviewed the contract. If one side breaches, they're obliged to pay a penalty of 30 million yuan!" added another Su family junior, indignation in their voice.
The younger members of the Su family were seething with a sense of injustice.
"Enough! All of you, be quiet!" Old Madame Su, already exasperated by Huanyu's contract termination, was further irritated by the incessant chatter. She slammed her hand on the table in frustration.
Seeing Old Madame Su's anger, the Su family members fell silent, standing still, not daring to utter another word.
"You lot are so short-sighted. Do you want to drive the Su family to bankruptcy?" Old Madame Su scanned the room, her voice tinged with disappointment. "Huanyu Group is the premier company in Xichuan City, backed by the most powerful family in Jiangnan—the Chen family! And you're thinking of suing Huanyu Group? With minimal effort, they could bankrupt the Su family. Even if we won the lawsuit, could we honestly handle the twenty million in damages?"
Her words left everyone exchanging uneasy glances, unable to come up with a rebuttal.
After all, it was the Huanyu Group. To them, a 30 million yuan settlement was a drop in the bucket. But if the Su family dared to sue Huanyu, it wasn't just about growing the family wealth—it was a question of survival.
"Hai, did the Huanyu Group mention anything else?" Old Madame Su eyed Su Hai with a furrowed brow. "Lift your head. I can't imagine Huanyu, a company of their stature, would cancel a meeting without good reason. Have you upset someone?"
Upon hearing Old Madame Su's words, Su Hai no longer dared to feign helplessness. He quickly lifted his head and defended himself, "Grandma, you've got it all wrong. The Huanyu Group is like a cash cow for our family. I wouldn't dream of crossing them."
Su Hai's defense seemed to soften Old Madame Su's expression. She too believed that Su Hai would have been nothing but courteous to the Huanyu Group representatives.
With Old Madame Su's mood visibly improved, Su Hai breathed a sigh of relief before continuing, "Grandma, the Huanyu Group representatives said that it was Su Miao who initially went to discuss the partnership. They chose to collaborate with the Su family largely because of her. Now, they insist that all projects must be negotiated personally by Su Miao. They're not willing to deal with anyone else from the Su family!"
"What!?" The revelation sent a wave of shock through the Su family members present.
The Huanyu Group's decision to partner with the Su family was based on Su Miao's influence?
Could that be true?
Su Miao was just a peripheral figure in the family. How could she have the clout to secure a partnership with Huanyu?
Despite their best efforts, the family couldn't fathom the rationale behind it.
Old Madame Su, upon hearing this, cast a complex glance at Su Hai, who was still kneeling, and sighed deeply.
At Nishikawa Airport, Su Miao and Tang Jing had been waiting at the arrival gate for quite some time.
"Mom, Dad should be deplaning any minute now, right?" Su Miao mused, realizing it had been over half a year since she last saw her father.
Su Changhe, Su Miao's father, had been building his business abroad for many years. His ventures hadn't been successful until recently, often requiring financial backing from the family. However, rumors had it that in the last six months, his fortunes had turned, and he had made a considerable sum of money.
Over the past six months, he would occasionally video call Tang Jing. He was always either behind the wheel of a luxury car or stepping into upscale office towers.
This time, seizing the opportunity of Old Madame Su's birthday, Su Changhe announced his plans to return home, hoping to surprise her.
"We should be close." Tang Jing glanced at the time and remarked.
The mother-daughter duo was strikingly beautiful, turning heads and capturing the attention of everyone as they stood at the exit.
Tang Jing was meticulous about her appearance. Her flowing curls, paired with black stockings, high heels, and a form-fitting skirt, made her look more like Su Miao's older sister than her mother, exuding the full essence of mature femininity.
Su Miao, in her white dress, showcased her exquisite figure to perfection.
Her phone buzzed inside her bag. Checking it, Su Miao found a brief message from Chen Yang.
"Honey, if grandma asks you to negotiate with Huanyu later, you must say no!"
Negotiate with Huanyu? Why would her grandmother call her about that? Hadn't Su Hai already been in talks with Huanyu?
It made no sense.
Su Miao deleted the message, frustrated. She had repeatedly told him not to call her "honey," but he never listened, always acting on his whims.
"What's wrong? Did that loser text you again?"
"Yes..." Su Miao confirmed with a nod.
"Perfect timing. Your dad's coming back. After we celebrate your grandmother's birthday, he and I will help you get a divorce," Tang Jing declared with unwavering determination. "Whether you agree or not, you're getting a divorce from Chen Yang!"
