C11 System's Benefits
The silence was deafening.
Both Dong Siwen and Lin Yiming, who was sprawled on the ground clutching his cheek, were shell-shocked.
Ye Fan chuckled and apologized, "Oops, my bad. I just couldn't help myself. My dog used to bark incessantly, and I guess I reacted out of habit."
"You dare to hit me!"
Lin Yiming snapped to his senses, leaped to his feet, and bellowed, "Where's the security? What are they dead? Get out here..."
"Smack!"
Before he could finish his rant, Ye Fan's hand swung back and delivered another slap.
Lin Yiming's tooth rocketed out of his mouth as he was knocked back to the ground, his face swelling grotesquely.
Looking down at him, Ye Fan sneered, "I'm human, you're not me, so you're not human. If you dare to utter another word, do you believe I can render you speechless?"
It was a threat, unabashed and clear as day.
Lin Yiming was completely dazed by Ye Fan's resounding slaps, while Dong Siwen stood by, her hand over her mouth, eyes wide with shock.
Just then, Su Yurou emerged from the villa, car keys in hand.
"What happened here?" Su Yurou asked, taken aback by the scene before her.
"Nothing much. There was a dog making a racket, and I didn't want it to disturb everyone's rest, so I gave it a little lesson," Ye Fan explained with composure.
Lin Yiming picked himself up off the ground. Recognizing Su Yurou, and seeing that she seemed to know Ye Fan, he angrily addressed her while nursing his swollen face, "Miss Su, is this how you manage your people?" He assumed Ye Fan was one of Su Yurou's employees, perhaps a bodyguard or driver.
Su Yurou's brow furrowed as she corrected him, "Watch your language. Ye Fan is my friend, not a subordinate."
Lin Yiming paused, taken aback. This nobody knew Su Yurou? And they appeared to be close. It looked like teaching Ye Fan a lesson was off the table for today. He resolved to thoroughly investigate Ye Fan's background; he wouldn't be Lin Yiming if he let this slide.
As the thought crossed his mind, he shot Ye Fan a resentful glance. Without wasting another word, he took the dazed Dong Siwen by the hand and stormed off.
"What exactly happened?" Su Yurou asked, her face etched with confusion, after Lin Yiming had left.
"Oh, it's nothing. I just didn't expect to run into someone I knew here," Ye Fan replied with a nonchalant chuckle.
"Someone you knew?" Su Yurou was still perplexed.
"Yeah, my ex-girlfriend. Things ended because I was broke, and... well, you know how it goes," Ye Fan said, trying to appear indifferent.
Su Yurou clearly saw a hint of sadness in Ye Fan's eyes, so she decided not to press the issue further.
"Here are the car keys," Su Yurou said, handing them over to Ye Fan.
Ye Fan accepted the keys and asked, "Are you sure you don't need me to pick you up?"
"I'm sure," Su Yurou replied.
"Okay then, see you tomorrow. Get some rest."
"Bye."
After parting ways with Su Yurou, Ye Fan found her car, a sleek black Maserati. He marveled at the thought of driving a Maserati, something he had never even dared to dream of before.
The Maserati roared to life and Ye Fan headed back to his place. The night passed quietly.
The next morning, Ye Fan drove Su Yurou's car to the base of Iris International's building.
He parked the car and made his way to the public relations department. Pushing open the door, he strode in confidently.
"Good morning, Manager Ye."
"Wow, Manager Ye is looking sharp today."
The ladies from the public relations department greeted him, their compliments making him feel slightly elated.
Manager Ye's office was spacious, and directly opposite sat his assistant, Mu Qingyu.
Mu Qingyu arrived a bit late that day and quickly apologized upon reaching the office, "I'm sorry for being late, Manager Ye."
"No worries at all. There are still a few minutes before we start. Take it easy," Ye Fan said with a smile.
Mu Qingyu swiftly organized her things and settled at her desk, ready to begin the day's work.
It's quite uncommon to encounter a woman who takes her job as seriously as she does.
Ye Fan's role involved organizing documents and noting the details of some new fashion items. For the time being, there was no need for Ye Fan to meet with clients, making his workload relatively light. Yet, he was still swamped with work. In his moment of frustration, Ye Fan turned to the system for help.
"Hey, system, is it possible for me to gain a photographic memory?" Ye Fan initiated a mental conversation with the system.
"Ding! Host desires the photographic memory ability. Confirm expenditure of one energy unit to acquire?" the system inquired.
Ye Fan's spirits lifted; it seemed his request was possible. He eagerly confirmed his choice.
"Ding! Host has successfully acquired the skill: Photographic Memory."
"Photographic Memory: Memory strength enhanced to 100%."
With the sound of the pleasant electronic voice, a warm sensation flooded Ye Fan's mind, signifying the acquisition of the new skill.
"Ding! Host has earned an extra system benefit upon acquiring the skill. Complete the associated task to gain additional energy."
Ye Fan paused, puzzled. What was this about? The system offered extra benefits? He quickly accessed his attribute panel to investigate.
A translucent screen materialized in his mind with a mere thought.
Host: Ye Fan
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Realm Level: Level 1 (Innate Warrior)
System Level: Level 1
System Energy: 5
Current Mission: Bodyguard Mission
System Extra Benefit: Daily life may trigger system benefit tasks. Completing these tasks will award corresponding energy rewards.
Indeed, there was a new extra benefit option on the attribute panel. But even after reading the explanation, Ye Fan was still confused. Triggering system benefits in his daily life? What did that mean?
'No matter,' he thought, 'I'll figure it out as I go. It's bound to be something positive.'
But for now, his focus was on the newly acquired photographic memory.
With this in mind, he grabbed a fashion magazine, quickly flipped through it, and tossed it aside.
He then attempted to recall the content. Moments later, a smile spread across Ye Fan's face.
The magazine's content unfolded in his mind, perfectly accurate and without a single detail amiss.
"I'm going to have a monkey with you, haha," Ye Fan chuckled to himself.
Containing his excitement, Ye Fan got back to processing documents.
Thanks to his photographic memory, Ye Fan finished all his work in less than an hour.
Ye Fan stretched and stood up, noticing Mu Qingyu at the opposite desk looking somewhat dazed. Concerned, he asked, "Qingyu, you seem off today. Is everything okay?"
"There's been an issue at home. It's nothing... Thank you for asking, Manager Ye," Mu Qingyu replied with a forced smile.
Ye Fan could tell something was troubling Mu Qingyu, but he knew better than to pry into her personal affairs.
"If you're feeling worn out, don't push yourself. Why not head home and rest? I'll give you the day off," Ye Fan offered.
"No, no, no, I'm... I'm okay, really. No need to rest," Mu Qingyu insisted, burying herself back in her work.
Ye Fan didn't press further, though he felt a pang of sympathy for her as she soldiered on.
Bored, Ye Fan sat back down and decided to download League of Legends on his computer and began playing.
In the midst of his intense gaming session, the office door burst open.
Ling Sixue, in uniform, strode in.
She was livid upon seeing Ye Fan brazenly playing games at work.
"Ye Fan, are you seriously playing games on company time?"
"Damn it, use your ultimate! That's so freaking lame," Ye Fan muttered, oblivious to Ling Sixue's presence as he continued to hammer away at his keyboard.
Ling Sixue's face flushed with anger, and she stormed over to cut the power.
"I..." Ye Fan's screen went black, and he was about to lose his temper when he caught sight of the fuming Ling Sixue.
"Ah, Ling Sixue, hey there, heh," he stammered.
"Really? On your second day at the company, you're already gaming on the clock? Maybe I'm not cut out to be a manager," Ling Sixue fumed.
Ye Fan scratched his head in slight exasperation, "Boss, please, take it easy. I've already finished my work. I was just feeling a bit bored, so I played a game. It's not like it's affecting the company."
"Enough with the excuses! Whether your work is done or not, doing other things during work hours is against company policy!" Ling Sixue remained unyielding.
"Okay, my bad." Ye Fan admitted, throwing his hands up in resignation.
"Let me see what you've accomplished!" Ling Sixue demanded, clearly irritated.
Ye Fan handed over the neatly organized documents to Ling Sixue, who scrutinized them thoroughly.
She had hoped to find some errors to berate Ye Fan, but to her surprise, the documents were flawless. Despite his seemingly nonchalant attitude, he had proven himself capable.
"Well, Ling Sixue, is everything in order?" Ye Fan asked with a confident smirk.
"Hmph, it's passable. After lunch, make your way to the CEO's office," Ling Sixue instructed, her tone icy as she set aside the documents.
"Uh, understood." Ye Fan suddenly recalled that he still had Su Yurou's car keys. It would be the perfect opportunity to return them to her at lunchtime.
