C13 Why Isn't the Food Served Yet?
Ye Fan glanced at the waitress and requested, "Miss, could I have a serving of roast lamb chops, some fried potatoes, and a fruit salad, please? Thank you."
"Your... Sir, your French is quite fluent," the French waitress remarked, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she gazed at Ye Fan.
Most patrons here could muster just a few phrases in French for ordering, so Ye Fan's fluency was a rarity.
Su Yurou's eyes brightened, her lovely face showing a hint of emotion. She had heard about Ye Fan's perfect scores in French and English during his interview, and now she could see his genuine skill firsthand.
"Hehe, you flatter me, Miss," Ye Fan said with a modest smile, continuing in French.
His tone was even and casual, as if he were simply making small talk with the French waitress.
"What in the world..."
Shi Mingyu was utterly baffled, staring at Ye Fan and the French girl as if they were chirping in a foreign bird language.
Could this kid actually speak French? Was an employee really this accomplished?
He half-hoped Ye Fan was just rambling, but the waitress's animated expression made it clear that Ye Fan was the real deal.
Ye Fan's fluent French, coupled with his handsome looks, almost enchanted the young French girl.
She moved closer and whispered in Ye Fan's ear, "Sir, you're so attractive, and your French is impressive. Hehe, could I have your phone number?"
Ye Fan declined gracefully; he wasn't interested in pursuing any romantic entanglements at the moment.
He thought of the chubby guy who enjoyed adult films, figuring he might have been interested.
Despite the rejection, the French girl remained cheerful, her smile even warmer. She seemed eager to ensure that Ye Fan, as an international guest, was satisfied with the French cuisine and began to recommend dishes with patience.
Shi Mingyu was inwardly astounded. It was truly bizarre; an employee who spoke French?
Yet, outwardly, he couldn't let his surprise show. Instead, he watched Ye Fan and the French girl with an amused smile, pretending to follow their conversation.
Meanwhile, Shi Mingyu's view of Ye Fan's status had significantly shifted from his initial condescension.
"Yurou, has the caliber of your company's employees always been this high?" Shi Mingyu inquired, placing extra emphasis on the word 'employees.'
Su Yurou arched an eyebrow, fixing Shi Mingyu with a look. "As I mentioned, Ye Fan is a friend of mine."
It was clear to Su Yurou that Shi Mingyu was intentionally singling out Ye Fan, which irked her somewhat.
Just then, the French girl who had previously left came back and addressed Shi Mingyu in French, "I'm sorry, sir, but we're out of the French snails you ordered. Would you like to choose something else?"
What on earth was she saying? Shi Mingyu was visibly embarrassed, unable to comprehend the girl's words, though he faintly caught the phrase 'French snails.'
He looked at the French girl, at a loss for words, and could only offer an awkward smile.
The girl looked puzzled. Why was this man smiling at her? She repeated her earlier statement.
Shi Mingyu continued to smile awkwardly...
Ye Fan, of course, knew exactly what was happening. He watched Shi Mingyu's embarrassed grin and fought to suppress his laughter, but since Shi Mingyu had been antagonizing him, he didn't step in to clarify.
Su Yurou, however, couldn't bear to watch any longer. She turned to Shi Mingyu and explained, "She said they're out of French snails and asked if you'd like to order something else."
Upon hearing Su Yurou's translation, Shi Mingyu's embarrassment deepened. Eager to save face, he made a quick decision.
He requested the menu again and, without a second thought, began ordering the most expensive items. He figured he could afford it and also wanted to show Ye Fan the vast economic gap between them.
Ye Fan, observing Shi Mingyu's choices, struggled to contain his amusement, his body shaking slightly with suppressed laughter.
Su Yurou, who had just received a message, was distracted and missed the unfolding scene.
After Shi Mingyu had finished ordering, the French girl gave him a look of astonishment but said nothing more and walked away.
Soon, Ye Fan and Su Yurou's orders were served, but the dishes Shi Mingyu had ordered were nowhere to be seen.
After waiting for some time, my order still hadn't arrived. Shi Mingyu, growing impatient, waved over the waitress and asked in Chinese, "Why hasn't my food arrived yet? What's the issue with your restaurant?"
The waitress from Tusmela, clearly unable to understand Mandarin, looked bewildered with wide eyes.
Sensing an entertaining scene unfolding, Ye Fan kindly stepped in to translate Shi Mingyu's complaint into Tusmela for her.
"The items you ordered have already been served," the waitress replied with an innocent expression.
Ye Fan relayed her response back to Shi Mingyu.
Shi Mingyu's frustration boiled over. He was already feeling awkward, and now the waitress seemed to be blatantly lying!
"Call your manager over. What kind of service is this, deceiving a customer? Nothing has been served, yet you claim it has."
Shortly after, the restaurant's lobby manager approached Shi Mingyu and said, "Good evening, sir. I'm the lobby manager here at Bess. May I know what the issue is?"
The manager was a Rocloilorian, so communicating with Shi Mingyu was seamless.
Shi Mingyu recounted the incident, repeatedly accusing the waitress of customer deception.
Su Yurou was also puzzled, unsure of what had transpired.
Only Ye Fan knew the full story and was struggling to contain his laughter.
After hearing the details, the manager glanced at their menu and then assured Shi Mingyu, "Sir, the waitress didn't deceive you. All the items you've ordered have been served."
Shi Mingyu, now even more incensed, pointed at the manager and declared, "Fine, fine, I'm going to file a complaint against you!"
The manager, seeing Shi Mingyu's temper, quickly tried to clarify, "Please, sir, calm down. I think there's been a misunderstanding. The items you ordered last weren't food but piano pieces. In fact, the last piece you requested is currently being played."
He gestured towards the stage in the lobby.
Shi Mingyu was stunned. Damn it, the additional items I ordered were piano pieces?
Ye Fan finally burst into laughter.
Su Yurou stifled a giggle, covering her mouth to keep from laughing out loud.
Ye Fan caught Su Yurou's laughter and for a moment, he was spellbound. He couldn't deny that her smile was truly captivating, and he found himself stealing a few extra glances.
He hadn't noticed before, but this stoic CEO actually had a sense of humor.
Shi Mingyu was mortified and wished he could just disappear into thin air.
The other patrons were gawking at Shi Mingyu, wondering if something was off with the guy.
"Uh... Yurou, you guys take your time eating. I just remembered I have something else to do, so I'm going to head out," he said, standing up, ready to beat a hasty retreat.
Ye Fan couldn't resist teasing, "Shi, don't forget to settle the bill. Those piano pieces you ordered don't come cheap, hahaha."
Shi Mingyu shot Ye Fan a resentful look and said, "Ye Fan, you're on my radar now." With that, he stormed off.
Once Shi Mingyu was gone, Su Yurou noticed Ye Fan's gaze lingering on her, making her feel somewhat self-conscious. She fought back a smile and, feigning seriousness, asked, "Ye Fan, did you know all along that he ordered those piano pieces?"
"He's always been out to get me, so he brought this on himself. Serves him right," Ye Fan replied with conviction.
"You…" Su Yurou started to scold Ye Fan but, recalling Shi Mingyu's antagonism throughout the day, she softened her stance. "Actually, he's not that bad."
Ye Fan deftly changed the subject, and they chatted casually for a bit. Realizing it was time to go, they rose from their seats, exited the restaurant, and got into the car, driving off towards Iris International.
