C22 Manager Ye Come On!
Shortly after, Ye Fan settled the hospital bills and finished the necessary paperwork before heading back to the ward.
"Manager Ye, thank you. I'll pay you back someday," whispered Mu Qingyu.
Ye Fan gave an awkward smile and replied, "Pay back what? It was me who injured your dad. It's only right that I cover the costs."
Mu Qingyu, with a look of regret, insisted, "No, Manager Ye, I know you mean well, but I will pay you back. I'm sorry for always causing you so much trouble."
Ye Fan let out a sigh. The girl was incredibly stubborn.
"Why does your father treat you this way?" he asked once more.
"He..." Mu Qingyu faltered.
"Is there something you're uncomfortable talking about?" Ye Fan inquired, noticing her reluctance.
After a moment of silence, Mu Qingyu began to recount the events to Ye Fan.
It turned out that the middle-aged man Ye Fan had knocked down was Mu Shan, her biological father. While Mu Qingyu was kind-hearted, her father was far from it; calling him scum would be putting it mildly.
He had been a decent family man before retirement, treating Mu Qingyu and her mother well. But post-retirement, he became idle, never seeking employment.
That might have been tolerable, but Mu Shan had developed a gambling addiction that spiraled out of control, squandering what little money the family had left.
Mu Qingyu, an assistant in the public relations department at Iris International, earned a decent salary. However, her mother was battling lung cancer and required monthly chemotherapy treatments.
She was desperate to earn enough for her mother's care, yet Mu Shan frequently demanded money from her for his gambling debts.
Recently, due to his gambling, Mu Shan had taken out loans with exorbitant interest rates. With creditors hounding him, he pressured Mu Qingyu for money.
Mu Qingyu hadn't been working long, and her mother's chemotherapy cost nearly 10,000 yuan a month, a significant financial burden. Her meager savings had already been handed over to Mu Shan.
She was at a loss about how to cover her mother's chemotherapy costs this month.
The more Ye Fan heard, the more upset he became, his anger rising. "How can a father be so utterly shameless?"
It now made sense why Mu Qingyu had seemed so distracted at Iris International, mentioning that there had been some trouble at home. This was the reason.
Ye Fan had never imagined that behind this well-behaved and gentle girl lay such a crushing burden.
As Mu Qingyu spoke, her sense of injustice grew, and she began to cry softly.
"Alright, alright, don't worry so much. Everything will get better," Ye Fan said, instinctively taking Mu Qingyu's small hand into his own, offering a gentle reassurance.
Holding her slightly cold yet tender hand, Ye Fan felt no inappropriate thoughts arise.
"Mmm," Mu Qingyu murmured, nodding slightly, her cheeks flushing, but she did not withdraw her hand.
They both composed themselves and entered the hospital room.
"Damn it, you had the nerve to hit me!"
Upon Ye Fan's arrival, Mu Shan exploded with fury, nearly leaping out of the hospital bed.
"Dad, it wasn't intentional!" Mu Qingyu quickly interjected.
Enraged, Mu Shan swung his hand, striking Mu Qingyu.
With a "pah!" Mu Qingyu cried out in pain and stumbled backward.
Ye Fan rushed to support Mu Qingyu, confronting Mu Shan with seething anger. "She's your daughter. Is this how a father acts?"
"She's my daughter, and I'll hit her if I want. What's it to you? Pay up for my medical expenses!" Mu Shan bellowed.
"Heh, the medical expenses are already taken care of," Ye Fan retorted coolly.
He couldn't bear it any longer, bewildered by how a sweet and kind-hearted girl like Mu Qingyu could end up with such a despicable father.
"You think you can just hit me and settle it with medical fees? Cough up an additional fifty thousand for my emotional distress!" Mu Shan demanded greedily.
"Dad, how can you be like this?" Mu Qingyu's brows furrowed as she raised her voice in protest.
"Shut your mouth! I don't need you telling me what to do," Mu Shan snapped back at her.
Unable to suppress his rage, Ye Fan made a snap decision and addressed Mu Shan, "You're just after money, right? Fine, I'll give you the money, but you have to agree to one condition."
Upon hearing that Ye Fan was willing to offer him money, Mu Shan's eyes sparkled as he eagerly inquired, "What's the condition?"
With a scornful laugh, Ye Fan responded, "I can give you a sum of money, but in return, you must promise never to bother Qingyu again, and never to ask her for money. How does that sound?"
"Heh, kid, I can accept that condition, but it depends on how much you're offering," Mu Shan replied with a grin, his demeanor shifting in an instant.
"Name your price," Ye Fan said, his patience wearing thin. He was worried he might lose his temper and give Mu Shan another beating.
"Two hundred thousand! Not a penny less. You give me two hundred thousand, and I'll hand Mu Qingyu over to you. Do with her as you please. She's never had a boyfriend, probably still a virgin. Think it over – two hundred thousand is a bargain for someone as beautiful as her," Mu Shan added, fearing Ye Fan might find the amount steep.
"You... You..." Mu Qingyu felt her head spin. Mu Shan was selling her!
Even if Ye Fan weren't the buyer, Mu Shan would have sold her to any man for money.
How could she have ended up with such a father!
Tears streamed down Mu Qingyu's cheeks as she wept silently.
"Fine, I'll transfer the money now. But remember your promise – from now on, Qingyu has no ties to you. She's mine!" Ye Fan said coldly.
Mu Shan hadn't expected Ye Fan to agree so quickly. Considering Ye Fan's modest attire, he regretted not asking for more, but he still said with a smile, "Alright, boss, I guarantee that once you give me the two hundred thousand, she's all yours, no longer any relation to me!"
"Done!"
Ye Fan pulled out his phone, got Mu Shan's bank card number, and immediately transferred two hundred thousand yuan.
Ding!
The notification of the funds' arrival made Mu Shan's heart soar with excitement. Two hundred thousand yuan! He could now clear all his debts and still have a hefty sum left to live it up for a while.
Laughing heartily at the thought, Mu Shan couldn't help but express his joy.
Mu Qingyu looked at her father, who had lost all sense of humanity, and felt a chill in her heart. Tears silently streamed down her face.
Without hesitation, Ye Fan took Mu Qingyu's hand and led her out of the hospital room. He feared that if they lingered any longer, he might not be able to resist giving that despicable man another piece of his mind.
"Can we go to my place?" Mu Qingyu managed to wipe away her tears and muster a weak smile for Ye Fan.
Unsure of her intentions, Ye Fan simply nodded in agreement.
They left the hospital and drove towards Mu Qingyu's home, both enveloped in an unusual silence for the duration of the journey.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived.
"Please come in," Mu Qingyu said as she opened her front door, welcoming Ye Fan into her home.
The apartment, which Mu Qingyu had rented, was conveniently located not too far from Iris International, likely chosen for an easy commute. Though small, the space was spotless and orderly, reflecting Mu Qingyu's industrious nature.
Ye Fan felt an unexpected kinship with the place, as it reminded him of his own home—minus the impeccable cleanliness, of course.
While Ye Fan was taking in the surroundings, Mu Qingyu reached for his hand and led him toward the bedroom.
"Qingyu, what's going on?" Ye Fan asked, clearly bewildered by her actions.
The bedroom, like the rest of the apartment, was neat and tidy, featuring only a bed.
Sitting on the bed, Mu Qingyu attempted to smile at Ye Fan and said, "Manager Ye, please."
"What? What do you mean?" Ye Fan was taken aback, trying to understand her intentions.
With cheeks flushed like ripe apples, Mu Qingyu bravely removed her shirt and lay down on the bed. In a soft voice, she said, "Manager Ye, you paid two hundred thousand for me earlier. Now I belong to you. Please, come here."
