C7 There Was Nothing He Could Do.
Upon hearing this, everyone paused, taken aback, before the students' jeers filled the air: "Haha, he's been a fool since childhood, spouting nothing but foolishness."
"Damn, his brain's been messed up since he was a kid, totally useless."
But in that moment, Ms. Wang's eyes shone with realization. "Exactly, I recall reading in an ancient tome that not all Medicine Pills require sequential placement!"
Her words instantly shifted the mood among the students who had been berating Feng Zhentian, their faces turning ashen.
"Indeed, such a concept exists. Yet, a Grade Three Alchemist has reviewed and even revised this book. How could he be unaware? Besides, I've always used this method when refining Body Breaking Pills." Vice Dean Soong was reluctant to concede, but with Ms. Wang in the know, denying it could tarnish his reputation should it come to light later on.
"Vice Dean, tell me, does your Body Breaking Pill always ensure a breakthrough for those who take it?" Feng Zhentian asked with a dismissive chuckle.
"Well..." Vice Dean Soong was well aware that his Body Breaking Pill had a success rate of about sixty percent, a mystery he had yet to unravel.
"Vice Dean, I'd wager the efficacy of your pills doesn't exceed seventy percent, primarily due to the order in which the ingredients are placed!" Feng Zhentian's insight was clear from Vice Dean Soong's expression.
Silence fell once more. Though they were but children, they were far from foolish, recognizing the stormy look on Vice Dean Soong's face as one of someone whose deepest concerns had been laid bare.
Ms. Wang, setting aside her role as a teacher, inquired, "So that's why the Body Breaking Pill is so challenging to refine—it's all about the arrangement of ingredients."
"Correct. Ms. Wang, if you're interested, you're welcome to visit my home sometime. We have a treasured book on pill refining," Feng Zhentian confirmed with a nod.
In that moment, it all became clear to the onlookers why Feng Zhentian was privy to such obscure knowledge.
"Vice Dean, with the textbook proven incorrect, how do you propose Ms. Wang instructs us?" they questioned.
Vice Dean Soong's face contorted with displeasure, his inner turmoil and resentment palpable. His dark eyes darted about before he finally stormed off in a rage, sleeves flapping. "Ms. Wang, please proceed with the exam. We shall dismiss today's incident!"
Before departing, Vice Dean Soong shot Feng Zhentian a piercing glare and stormed off, his sleeves billowing behind him. Yet a subtle smile spread across Feng Zhentian's face, and he excused himself early, claiming urgent family matters awaited him.
In the classroom, he noticed the fervent gleam in the eyes of more than one student. Had he lingered, he would have surely been swamped by their eager inquiries.
"Was I a bit too conspicuous earlier?" Feng Zhentian sighed to himself. As the notorious 'good-for-nothing' of Maple Falling Town, standing out was inevitable, especially now that he was thirteen again, armed with the vast knowledge and experience from his past life.
Still, Feng Zhentian whispered under his breath, "It's unavoidable. Ms. Wang's assistance in my previous life was invaluable. Without her, I'd never have ascended to become the Wind Monarch of the Divine Martial Continent. I must repay her kindness if the opportunity arises. Since she's fond of alchemy, I'll pass on all I know to her as a token of my gratitude for saving my life."
The fact that Ms. Wang had once saved Feng Zhentian's life was a mystery. Lost in thought, he walked the familiar streets, his gaze heavy with reminiscence.
