C4 Treating Illnesses and Saving Lives
Under Luo Yiran's gaze of astonishment, Jiang Chen finally spoke, "Rather than fret over that fat pig, let's prioritize visiting your mother."
It was only then that Luo Yiran snapped out of her daze.
With Jiang Chen's assistance, she rose to her feet and hailed a taxi, heading straight for the First People's Hospital.
He was aware that he had managed to upset Director Wang today, but his mother's well-being trumped his job concerns.
With Director Wang unconscious, it seemed a good opportunity to appeal to Chair Yang for assistance. Above all, he needed to ensure his mother received treatment.
As for the fallout, he'd have to deal with it as it came.
Luo Yiran let out a soft sigh, lost in thought.
Lately, she felt besieged by misfortune. She had just climbed the corporate ladder to a senior executive position, only for Jiang Chen to be stricken with cancer.
Then, her mother fell ill out of the blue.
And now, she had managed to alienate Director Wang as well.
Throughout the journey, Jiang Chen remained silent, a trait he had maintained in his past life, which didn't surprise Luo Yiran in the slightest.
As soon as the taxi came to a stop, Luo Yiran was out the door, with Jiang Chen following at a leisurely pace.
Upon reaching the hospital, he saw a middle-aged doctor in a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses examining Luo Yiran's mother.
Luo Yiran quickly approached and addressed the doctor, "Chair Yang, I've taken care of everything on my end. Could you please tend to my mother's condition?"
Chair Yang gave her a cursory glance, then turned his attention to Jiang Chen in his hospital gown.
"Director Wang has instructed me to wait for his call before treating your mother," he said, feigning difficulty.
Luo Yiran's face fell at his words.
"Why must we wait for Director Wang's call? Isn't healing the sick a doctor's sacred duty?" she protested, clinging to her mother.
"Regardless of what you say, without Director Wang's call, I simply cannot treat her," he insisted.
This Chair Yang, as it turned out, wasn't an actual doctor at the hospital. He was merely someone who had passed the medical qualification exam, specifically brought in by Director Wang to care for Luo Yiran's mother.
Regarding this so-called Chair Yang, he was really just a self-appointed titleholder at his own clinic.
Director Wang had orchestrated the whole scheme to ensure he could easily manipulate Luo Yiran.
Furthermore, as part of the deal, Director Wang had even promised Chair Yang a house.
Luo Yiran was overwhelmed with despair, her tears flowing uncontrollably.
Powerless to cure her mother, her hopelessness was palpable.
"Help your mother up."
Out of nowhere, a voice emerged from behind her—it was Jiang Chen.
Upon hearing Jiang Chen, Chair Yang responded with a frosty tone, "Young man, while your desire to save her is commendable, I must warn you, this illness isn't something you can just casually treat."
Jiang Chen paid him no mind and gently tapped Luo Yiran's shoulder.
"Why are you hesitating? If you don't follow my instructions, your mother won't recover."
Chair Yang interjected once more, "Don't handle the patient carelessly. If complications arise, you'll be out of your depth."
Jiang Chen glanced back at him, his gaze steely and resolute.
Luo Yiran, hearing these words, wavered slightly.
Given Jiang Chen's history of being labeled as weak and useless, despite the fact that he had defended her against Director Wang,
she had felt a long-lost sense of safety in that instant.
But that didn't necessarily mean Jiang Chen had the ability to heal her mother.
"Jiang Chen, I realize you're worried about my mom too, but this isn't the time for anger. Only Chair Yang can..."
Before Luo Yiran could finish, Jiang Chen cut her off.
"You're counting on this incompetent doctor? If he were capable, he would've already done something."
Luo Yiran's frustration surged at Jiang Chen's words, her anger once again clouding her judgment.
"What do you know? I've made countless calls, and no one else can help. Chair Yang is my last hope, and you dare call him a quack?"
"Should I rely on you instead, when you've done nothing but fail?!"
"If it weren't for you, why would Chair Yang refuse to treat my mother?"
Luo Yiran rattled off complaints to Jiang Chen like rapid-fire, while Chair Yang stood nearby, wearing a smug grin.
Jiang Chen turned to Luo Yiran and said coolly, "Out of respect for your filial devotion, I'll help you this one time. But I hope you won't bother me at that small courtyard again."
"After this, we're square."
With that, Jiang Chen moved toward his mother-in-law, who Luo Yiran had helped to her feet.
Luo Yiran's earlier fuss had drawn a crowd eager for drama, including the hospital's own doctors and nurses. They began to murmur among themselves.
They were all familiar with Chair Yang and his reputation for handling tough cases with unique methods. Yet Jiang Chen seemed to dismiss him entirely.
"This young man actually has the nerve to oppose Chair Yang. He's courting disaster."
"If he can't show respect for his elders, Chair Yang shouldn't even bother treating his mother-in-law," someone commented.
Jiang Chen paid no mind to the surrounding chatter. He placed his hand on the back of Luo Yiran's mother. His recent use of his cultivation technique had replenished some of his energy.
He could sense a vague black aura within Luo Yiran's mother's body. But before he could act, Chair Yang approached.
"Step aside. Did you really think healing and saving lives was so simple?"
"Even though I can't reach Director Wang by phone, I came here today because he promised me a house as payment."
"I'll take over from here."
Hearing this, Jiang Chen stepped aside.
Luo Yiran's expression became noticeably uneasy as she witnessed the exchange.
"Could it be that kid just used reverse psychology to goad Chair Yang into stepping in?" she thought.
Hearing the speculation of those around her, Luo Yiran looked up sharply at Jiang Chen. Her face was etched with a deeper unease and now, an apology. It seemed she had indeed misjudged Jiang Chen.
Just then, as Chair Yang had laid Luo Yiran's mother back onto the hospital bed, she suddenly coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood.
