C6 Jiang Zhong Fought Against the Black Man!
"You decrepit fool, do you still fancy yourself the great General Jiang? If your powers were intact, I'd stand no chance against you. But now, can you even lift your sword? Do you truly believe you have what it takes to stop me?" sneered the Black Assassin, eyeing Jiang Zhong with contempt. As a Zhenqi realm martial artist, he had no regard for an old man who had lost his cultivation. Drawing his longsword, he channeled his Genuine Qi and struck at Jiang Zhong's broadsword with force.
"Clang!"
The Black Assassin's blow was significantly more powerful than Jiang Zhong's. The clash of longsword against broadsword echoed as the assassin scoffed repeatedly, forcing Jiang Zhong to retreat steadily. Jiang's hands trembled slightly, betraying his struggle.
Truth be told, Jiang Zhong had not only lost his cultivation but was also nursing grave injuries, making him no match for the Man in Black. The latter, realizing this, dismissed Jiang Zhong as a threat entirely.
"Your Highness, why won't you flee? I know you're concerned for me, but if you stay, my death will be in vain. Can't you see that?" Jiang Zhong bellowed at Ling Dao, who remained in the thick of the fray, showing no signs of departure. Jiang Zhong was prepared to lay down his life if it meant ensuring Ling Dao's safety.
"Flee? Where could he possibly escape to? You senile relic, I'll end you right here!" The Man in Black huffed coldly, his strikes growing more vicious. His icy longsword thrust at Jiang Zhong repeatedly. Though the Black Assassin's grasp of martial arts paled in comparison to Jiang Zhong's, he compensated with overwhelming power.
The relentless clashing of sword and saber continued. Jiang Zhong, leaning on his seasoned combat skills, managed to fend off the Black Assassin but was persistently overpowered. Now, he was panting heavily from exhaustion. His saber technique was fierce, yet without sufficient strength, he couldn't execute it effectively.
"For the sake of His Highness, I'll fight to my last breath!" Jiang Zhong bit down hard, throwing caution to the wind as he engaged the Black Assassin in a life-or-death struggle. In his offensive, Jiang Zhong recklessly ignored the longsword's threat, willing to sustain injuries or even sacrifice his life to land a blow.
"Damn lunatic!"
The Black Assassin fought while retreating, clearly not keen on a fight to the death with Jiang Zhong. He understood that dragging out the battle worked in his favor. Jiang Zhong was not only old and injured, but his ability to fight would also diminish the longer the battle lasted.
"It's like a tiger being mocked by dogs. To think that after a lifetime on the battlefield, this is how I meet my end!"
Jiang Zhong could feel his strength waning. He struggled to even hold his heavy blade, let alone execute any sophisticated techniques. He reminisced about his glory days under King Carefree, commanding respect on the battlefield. Now, he was struggling against a mere Zhenqi realm martial artist.
"Old fool, enough with your babbling. You're already in agony; it would be a mercy for me to end you with one swift strike of my sword!"
The Black Man's swordplay grew increasingly rapid. His skills were limited to the basics of the Genuine Qi Stage, lacking any advanced martial arts. His talent was average, and without the backing of a powerful faction, he had only learned the most fundamental techniques.
"Swish!"
The longsword sliced through Jiang Zhong's clothing, narrowly missing his right shoulder, which would have been severed had he not retreated quickly. As it was, a bloody gash now marred his shoulder. Luckily, the Black Assassin wielded nothing more than a common iron sword.
"Your Highness, make your escape now!"
A glint of lethal intent shone in Jiang Zhong's eyes as a formidable aura of malevolence erupted from him. He was no stranger to death, having claimed many lives on the battlefield. The aura he exuded momentarily stalled the Black Assassin, causing a noticeable delay in his sword strikes.
Jiang Zhong was a seasoned Great General, battle-hardened from years of conflict. He wouldn't let such a prime opportunity slip by. The large blade that was poised to clash with the longsword suddenly veered, cutting a horizontal swath at the Black Man's waist.
Jiang Zhong's keen eyesight allowed him to spot the Black Assassin's vulnerability. An attack from any other angle might have been parried in time, but the Black Assassin's sword couldn't return quickly enough to block a strike aimed at his waist.
"Puchi!"
In a dire moment, the Black Assassin summoned all her Genuine Qi and swiftly sidestepped. Dust and pebbles scattered as she moved with impressive speed, yet despite her agility, a blade still managed to slice across her waist, sending blood spraying.
"What a pity, she's still alive!"
The strike had drained a significant amount of Jiang Zhong's strength, leaving him somewhat disheartened that the Black Man had not fallen. Had he possessed Genuine Qi, the Black Assassin's fate would have been sealed. Regrettably, there are no 'ifs' in battle. At this point, he was even less equipped to contend with the Black Man.
"You decrepit fool! Daring to wound me? If I don't slay you today, I renounce my humanity!"
The Black Assassin let out a cold laugh. He was well aware of who General Jiang Zhong was; otherwise, he wouldn't have wasted words on him. The thought of the once-feared Great General meeting his end at his hands filled him with immense satisfaction.
He hoisted his longsword high and brought it crashing down towards Jiang Zhong. He had pinpointed Jiang Zhong's vulnerability, which is why he had drawn out the battle. Now, Jiang Zhong was on the brink of defeat, his life hanging by a thread under his sword.
"To think that the Great General of the Great Luo Dynasty will fall to my blade. Once word spreads, my name will surely resonate across the land, hehe..."
By now, the Black Man had secured an overwhelming advantage, and the beleaguered Jiang Zhong was unlikely to fend off even a few more strikes. Though he might lack Jiang Zhong's technique, combat experience, and lethal prowess, at this juncture, Jiang Zhong was the lesser warrior.
"As a Zhenqi realm martial artist, I stand no chance against him in direct combat. But he's preoccupied with his duel against Grandpa Jiang, leaving me out of his focus. Plus, I wield the Carefree Sword bestowed by my father. Even if I can't harness its full might, the sheer sharpness of the Carefree Sword is enough to cleave through the flesh of this Black Assassin!"
The Black Assassin faced a formidable opponent in General Jiang Zhong and dared not let her guard down. A moment's distraction could give Jiang Zhong the opening he needed, potentially costing the assassin her life. Despite Jiang Zhong's decline from his former prowess, the Black Assassin remained vigilant.
Ling Dao inhaled deeply, stealthily making his way to the Black Assassin's rear. His complexion was ashen, his frame frail. His movements, though feeble, did not go unnoticed by the Black Assassin, who, nonetheless, dismissed him with indifference.
"What harm could a feeble boy like you do, even if you managed an ambush?" she taunted.
Zhenqi realm martial artists boasted formidable strength, and without a weapon, Ling Dao's bare hands were no threat. The Black Assassin could stand motionless and allow Ling Dao to strike without concern.
"Your Highness, get out of here! Don't come any closer!" Jiang Zhong called out, having spotted Ling Dao's attempt. He knew all too well the fragility of Ling Dao's constitution. Should Ling Dao charge in now, the Black Assassin could easily dispatch him with a mere flick of her longsword.
