C5 Was His Body Okay?

Is the limited edition watch a knockoff?

Jiang Yan's comment immediately infuriated both Lee Chade and Li Xiaoya.

Li Xiaoya, a woman with a penchant for vanity, was particularly sensitive about her reputation.

She had mistakenly thought Jiang Yan's watch was a fake and even suspected him of theft, only to be proven wrong by the boutique's staff, confirming Jiang Yan's purchase and leaving her embarrassed.

She had hoped to restore her pride and superiority by dining at the Dragon River Hotel, never anticipating it was owned by Xu Fengjiao's boyfriend—a twist of fate that made her question her luck.

The incident might have ended there, with Xu Fengqiu leading Jiang Yan away, but Jiang Yan couldn't help but add a remark that reignited Li Xiaoya's fury.

She had been looking for an opportunity to save face, and Jiang Yan had just handed it to her on a silver platter.

A homebody who hardly ever stepped outside, whose allowance came from his wife, had the audacity to doubt the authenticity of a vice president's watch from a publicly traded company. Where did he get such nerve?

It was as absurd as a beggar questioning the authenticity of a landlord's gold ingots.

Li Xiaoya scoffed, "Lee Chade's watch is a high-end, limited edition piece that cost tens of thousands of dollars and isn't available domestically. His one watch is worth ten of yours, and you dare to suggest it's a fake? Jiang Yan, just because you can't afford it doesn't mean everyone else buys counterfeits."

"Take a good look—are you going to claim the BMW is fake too? Lee Chade is decked out in international designer brands from head to toe, brands you've probably never even heard of. I don't know where you get the audacity to make such baseless claims."

Lee Chade, caressing his watch, stood tall and looked down at Jiang Yan with an air of arrogance. "Xiaoya, don't waste your breath on him. A jobless nobody like him wouldn't understand luxury. That watch of his is probably the only luxury he'll ever own."

Jiang Yan was just about to speak when Xu Fengqiu tugged at his sleeve and shot him a warning glance, silently urging him to hold his tongue.

"Xiao Ya, Lee Chade, I apologize. Jiang Yan must have been mistaken. Please forgive him this once; I'll apologize on his behalf."

Li Xiao Ya, seeing Xu Fengqiu's apology, dismissed it with a wave of her hand, "Let's just drop it. For Feng Qiu's sake, I won't make a fuss."

Lee Chade huffed and led Li Xiao Ya by the hand toward the BMW.

"Xiao Ya, you should steer clear of such people in the future. They're just jealous, can't stand to see anyone doing better than them—like rabid dogs biting at everyone."

Once they were in the car, Lee Chade seemed to flaunt deliberately, revving the BMW's engine with a heavy foot on the accelerator, its low growl fading into the distance.

Xu Fengqiu finally exhaled in relief and turned to reassure Jiang Yan, "Honey, Xiao Ya's words were harsh. Don't let them get to you."

"Don't worry, I'm not bothered," Jiang Yan replied with a smile, too indifferent to bother with two fools who couldn't recognize the truth.

He had claimed Lee Chade's watch was a knockoff, and not without basis. Having been part of the Chiang family, he had encountered his fair share of luxury items, developing an eye for authenticity.

If he were to misjudge, now that would be a surprise.

Xu Fengqiu frowned, "Still, you shouldn't have said what you did. I get that Xiao Ya has her suspicions, but you can't just make wild accusations about her boyfriend. Xiao Ya and I are close friends and coworkers. If you upset her, how do you expect us to get along?"

Jiang Yan dropped the subject of the watch and quickly offered a placating smile, "Alright, my mistake. Honey, please don't be upset."

Xu Fengqiu gave Jiang Yan a playful glare, not one to hold a grudge over such trivialities.

"Speaking of which, come clean—where did you get the money for that watch?"

Jiang Yan had already concocted an explanation when he made the purchase.

"I won this money from the lottery. Every day, on my way to buy groceries, I'd pass by a lottery shop and spend ten yuan on a ticket. I've been doing this for three years straight, and I never imagined I'd actually hit the jackpot a few days ago. It seems like fortune favors the persistent!"

"You won a few days ago? Why didn't you tell me?"

"Uh... The prize money hadn't been deposited until today, so I went straight out and bought you this watch. Do you like it? Try it on!"

Jiang Yan watched with a grin as Xu Fengqiu unwrapped the watch, her face lighting up with joy.

"Honey, how much did you win? Is there any left?"

"Well, there's a little left, but not much. The total was 130,000 yuan."

The watch cost over 128,000 yuan, and Jiang Yan claimed he won 130,000 to keep Xu Fengqiu from snooping into his finances. He didn't even have a domestic bank card—only a Swiss bank account and a Centurion Black Gold Card.

As expected, Xu Fengqiu's lips pursed upon hearing this. "Ah? So you spent all the money on this watch?"

Jiang Yan replied with a smile, "A smile from a beauty is priceless. If it makes you happy, my wife, then no amount of money is too much to spend."

Xu Fengqiu paused, then spoke up, "Honey, can we return the watch? If we get the money back, along with the savings I have, it's nearly enough for a down payment on a house. Then, we could move out and start our own life together."

Hearing this, Jiang Yan felt a surge of emotion. He knew Xu Fengqiu's suggestion was all about considering his feelings, sparing him from her parents' daily criticisms.

"Sweetheart, the store's policy is clear: no refunds or exchanges once an item is sold. If there's an issue with the watch, they'll only repair it for free. Keep the watch. As for the house down payment, don't worry. Once I land a job, I'll work hard alongside you."

"You're looking for a job?"

A look of surprise crossed Xu Fengqiu's face as she pressed, "Really? Honey, what made you suddenly decide to look for work?"

Jiang Yan offered a smile and explained, "It's been three years. I've healed and it's time for me to start working. Plus, my mom gave me an ultimatum today: find a job within three days or we're getting a divorce."

"But are you sure you're up to it?"

Concern etched Xu Fengqiu's features. She had never once complained in the three years Jiang Yan hadn't worked, understanding that his injuries were serious—and that they were incurred because of her.

Three years earlier, when Xu Fengqiu was new to her job, she had a late night at work. On her way home, she encountered a group of drunken thugs who harassed her, nearly compromising her virtue.

Fortuitously, Jiang Yan happened by and came to her rescue, only to be stabbed in the back by one of the assailants.

Rushed to the hospital with life-threatening blood loss, Jiang Yan was saved by a transfusion from Xu Fengqiu, who shared his O-type blood. Their shared ordeal had saved each other's lives. As Xu Fengqiu frequently visited Jiang Yan in the hospital, their bond deepened, and they grew fond of each other.

Though Jiang Yan recovered enough to leave the hospital, the doctor warned that his waist injury meant he couldn't do heavy labor or overexert himself ever again.

Moved by gratitude, affection, and a touch of guilt, Xu Fengqiu defied her family's wishes and chose to marry Jiang Yan.
