C11 Little Ghosts
If he saved the leftover braised pork, he might be able to enjoy it for several more days!
Ye Cheng was hesitant to discard it, but at that moment, he sensed something was off. He set the music box on the table and approached the area that seemed unusual to him.
"Great, I'm about to head back to the Multi-star Planet with headquarters, and these people still want to try and take me back? Not going to happen!"
Ye Cheng dashed forward, flung open the door, and yelled, "Forget about taking me back!"
The Supernatural Bureau agents were taken aback, and even the little ghost at the doorstep was shocked.
She had planned to step out and give them a fright, but before she could even knock, she was found out?
The little ghost was clad in a ragged dress, her complexion ghostly pale with no hint of color, and traces of blood at the corners of her mouth. The doll she clutched was filthy beyond belief.
Slowly, the little ghost lifted her head, her ashen eyes fixed on Ye Cheng.
The Little Wretched Ghost: The ultimate specter of resentment. Born fourth in a family that favored sons over daughters, she was discarded by her parents at an internet cafe entrance for being a girl. A pedophile ended her life, and her unyielding spirit lingered in the cafe, responsible for twenty-seven other souls besides her abuser.
The system alerted the host that eliminating this Wretched Ghost would grant him a new ability.
Ye Cheng didn't grasp what the system was trying to tell him; instead, he found the little girl before him rather adorable. He crouched down and gently pinched the girl's cheek.
"I'll have you know, I'm from the Multi-star Planet. Stick with me, and you'll get to enjoy the finer things in life."
System: ...
Had he misunderstood the system's alert?
The little ghost's face fell, and she batted Ye Cheng's hand away, which only piqued his interest further.
Ye Cheng produced a piece of braised pork from seemingly nowhere and offered it to the little ghost, "Want a bite? This is my secret stash, the last piece I have. I've been too reluctant to eat it myself."
Alright, he genuinely didn't catch the system's alert.
Host, please be aware that you're facing an ultimate resentful spirit. She's someone who died unjustly, a ghost! She is indeed a ghost!
At that moment, Ye Cheng finally grasped the system's message.
But the very next second, Ye Cheng's next move left everyone around him dumbfounded.
He pulled out a half-used candle and pried open the little ghost's mouth to stuff it inside, while saying, "I've watched horror movies, and ghosts eat candles. Lucky for me, I saved half. Eat up, quickly now."
Without hesitation, Ye Cheng stirred the candle around in the little ghost's mouth. In front of the crowd, the little ghost felt utterly humiliated and shoved Ye Cheng away.
Thinking she didn't like the taste of wax, Ye Cheng sat down and asked, "Little one, did you happen to see those folks in white coats when you arrived?"
The little ghost gave a faint shake of her head.
"Think hard, did you see them? The ones who wander around in white coats all day?"
After pondering for a moment upon hearing this, the little ghost still shook her head.
Seeing the little ghost's forlorn state, Ye Cheng removed his jacket and draped it over her. In his view, anyone not in a white coat was a friend.
Host, are you sure your head's on straight? You're dealing with a little ghost, not a person!
Oh well, his mind's always been a bit off.
Arguing with someone who's not all there means you're not all there yourself, so he let it go.
The little ghost had never experienced kindness before. She slowly lifted her hand and offered her doll to Ye Cheng, "Can big brother play with me?"
The doll was filthy, with tangled hair. Ye Cheng really didn't want to touch it, but he couldn't turn away from the little ghost's pleading eyes.
As Ye Cheng accepted the doll, he felt something wriggling beneath his fingers. He flipped the doll over, confused, and to his horror, discovered maggots crawling inside!
Repulsed, Ye Cheng flung the doll away.
Seeing her cherished doll tossed aside, the little ghost's aura darkened dramatically, her resentment surging from all directions and enveloping her.
Ye Cheng was oblivious to the little ghost's peculiar behavior. As he stood up, he effortlessly scooped up the little ghost by her collar and cradled her in his arms.
"T100, I've come across a kid. Is it alright if I keep her with me until her parents come to get her?"
Members of the Supernatural Bureau, witnessing Ye Cheng emerge with the ghost in tow, instinctively drew their ghost-destroying guns and aimed at Ye Cheng. Wang Anshi, along with his team, cautiously stepped back.
The instruments indicated that the ghost harbored an intense level of resentment, a value far beyond the capabilities of their ghost-destroying guns.
Wang Anshi was at a loss for words.
With everyone remaining mute, Ye Cheng casually placed the ghost on a sofa and scurried over to the bar, rummaging for snacks to present to her.
"This isn't as nice as where I live, but it's all we've got for now. Have a little something to tide you over, and later I'll take you back for a proper meal."
Having said that, Ye Cheng dashed back to the bar in search of more food.
Wang Anshi, standing to the side, was frozen in place, his nerves on edge as he watched the ghost on the sofa. He knew that if the ghost with such intense resentment made a move, they would stand no chance.
Peeking out from the snack stash, Ye Cheng called out, "Why are you all just standing around? Aren't you going to eat? If you wait too long, there'll be nothing left."
In the mental hospital, meals required queuing up, and latecomers often went hungry.
"Okay, okay," Wang Anshi managed to utter, though he was clearly at a loss for words.
The Supernatural Bureau agents clustered by the door, none daring to get close to the ghost.
Settling down with the snacks next to the ghost, Ye Cheng inquired, "So, why are you here all by yourself? Where are your parents?"
"They abandoned me."
With a sigh, Ye Cheng gave a wry smile and said, "Looks like we're in the same boat, both of us discarded. But don't worry from now on. Stick with me, and I'll look after you. I'll even take you with me to Multi-star Planet if we need to go back."
A flicker of unusual affection crossed the little ghost's eyes. Maybe it was the novelty of being treated with such kindness, or perhaps, for the first time, being seen as a person.
"Right, I almost forgot." Ye Cheng suddenly remembered something. He set down the snacks he was holding and was about to leave when he noticed Wang Anshi standing at the door.
"I left my music box behind. May I go grab it?"
Members of the Supernatural Bureau turned their gaze toward Wang Anshi.
At this point, whether it was a music box or a bomb, nobody would dare to stop you from retrieving it.
Wang Anshi nervously gulped and said, "Go ahead, go."
Overjoyed, Ye Cheng went to retrieve his music box, but it was no longer playing. He tapped it several times to no avail.
The little ghost gestured with a wave of his hand, and the music box began to spin once more.
"Wow, I had no idea you had that kind of skill. How did you learn it? Teach me sometime."
"You'll learn it when you die."
The people of the Supernatural Bureau shivered at these words, their spines tingling with the ominous feeling that in the next moment, the little ghost might unleash his fury and slaughter everyone present.
