C5 Of Course He Would Use a Ball to Catch the Cat
Wang Anshi's heart raced with anxiety, almost ready to command the officers to open fire.
But in that instant, Ye Cheng made a startling statement.
"Ma'am, have you by chance seen a wild cat? I'm here to catch it."
Clearly, to the mentally ill, humans were distinguished only by beauty or ugliness, with no consideration of their humanity.
Wang Anshi's mouth twitched involuntarily, filled with instant regret for having brought Ye Cheng along.
"Meow!"
The Cat-faced Lady issued a chilling meow, having never encountered a human who remained so unfazed.
Ye Cheng's demeanor piqued her curiosity.
Just as the Cat-faced Lady was poised to slash at Ye Cheng's throat and savor his flesh,
the young man nonchalantly produced a ball of yarn from his pocket and dangled it before her.
"Chatter!"
For a moment, the Cat-faced Lady looked utterly bewildered. Did this fool of a human just mistake her for a cat?
Wang Anshi and the assembled officers watched in astonishment.
Was this... some kind of joke?
Wang Anshi's face twitched uncontrollably, turning a ghostly pale.
He was now utterly convinced that bringing Ye Cheng, the fool, was a grave mistake.
This was nothing short of looking for trouble.
Seeing the Cat-faced Lady's lack of reaction, Ye Cheng pouted dismissively.
"What a drag. You're cosplaying as a catwoman and you don't even like a ball of yarn? That's hardly professional."
At his words,
the Cat-faced Lady shuddered, feeling a surge of anger so intense she thought her veins might burst.
The nerve of him to call her a catwoman – as if she and her entire family were catwomen!
"Roar!"
Unable to tolerate the eccentric man before her any longer, she lashed out with her claws at Ye Cheng.
The System had already become desensitized to the absurdity.
Resigned to reality.
Well, it was their chosen host, and they were duty-bound to assist him, come what may... The ball of yarn had been automatically upgraded to a Great Luo Golden Immortal Pill, to quell the malevolent spirits!
A flash of golden light!
The ball of yarn in Ye Cheng's hand unleashed a formidable energy!
One of the officers, who had a relatively strong psyche, was left utterly stunned.
Wang Anshi was jolted awake by his colleague's urgent shaking.
"Chief... Chief, look! The yarn ball Ye Cheng pulled out is glowing!"
Wang Anshi, who had nearly passed out, snapped to attention at those words.
He looked up in disbelief at the scene unfolding before him.
Ye Cheng had tossed the shimmering yarn ball onto the floor, causing the Cat-faced Lady to scream in agony as the Yin Qi around her seemed to scorch her very being.
She wilted under the assault.
Eventually, she was forced to kneel, desperately using her Yin Qi to fend off the golden light's relentless attack.
Ye Cheng watched with a satisfied grin.
Turning to Wang Anshi, whose expression had gone blank, he remarked,
"See, what did I tell you? To catch a cat, you obviously need a ball of yarn."
Wang Anshi, beaming at Ye Cheng's triumphant look, approached him as if he were greeting his most prized future asset.
"Comrade Ye Cheng, you were spot on. We owe this victory to you."
He gave Ye Cheng's hand a hearty shake.
This ace in the hole couldn't be allowed to slip away.
It would be a waste to keep him cooped up in a mental hospital.
Leaning in, Wang Anshi murmured into Ye Cheng's ear,
"T300, you did a stellar job. I'll treat you to braised pork, and spare no expense!"
Ye Cheng's eyes sparkled at the promise.
"Really? T500, you're a lifesaver. This guy's a keeper! What are we waiting for? Let's get going."
With that, he led Wang Anshi out, as if he were guiding his own brother.
The police officers on the scene could hardly believe their eyes.
What in the world was happening?
Why was the chief teaming up with a mental patient?
And more baffling, why did the yarn ball that the patient casually produced start to glow?
"What are you waiting for? Suppress the Cat-faced Lady, now!" Wang Anshi barked, before being whisked away by Ye Cheng.
The officers sprang into action, subduing the weakened Cat-faced Lady.
The yarn ball, having lost its luster the moment Ye Cheng exited the building, was pocketed by an officer.
"This could come in handy. I'll take it home for the missus to use for self-defense."
His fellow officer caught a glimpse of the maneuver.
He hurried over to negotiate.
"Brother Wang, let's talk this over. Can you spare me half? My family needs it too."
At that moment, several officers had taken notice of the yarn ball's unique qualities and were eager to claim a share for themselves.
It even led to a bit of a scuffle.
Eventually, each person pocketed a few strands of yarn before calling it quits.
Meanwhile, just outside the neighborhood, in a street-facing shop,
Wang Anshi cheerfully ordered a large serving of braised pork over rice for Ye Cheng.
He sat to the side, busy on a phone call.
"Hello? Director Chen, it's Wang Anshi. Ye Cheng has been a huge help to me today. I need to keep him on loan for a few more days."
Chen Yangguang's voice, frustrated and exasperated, came through the receiver.
"Wang, you're breaking your promise! You said you'd return him early!"
Wang Anshi smirked, glancing at Ye Cheng, who was enjoying his meal, grease shining around his mouth.
He murmured to him.
"T300, would you like to join me for a few more missions? There's always braised pork in it for you. But now, your director is calling you back."
He dangled the allure of braised pork.
Ye Cheng, recalling the stern-faced old man in the white lab coat, didn't hesitate.
"Of course, I'm willing!"
"Then you tell him yourself."
With that, Wang Anshi handed the phone to Ye Cheng, a triumphant grin on his face.
On the line was still Chen Yangguang, berating Wang Anshi for his lack of integrity.
"Hello? You foolish old man, I'm warning you not to get in the way of the missions Director Wang and I are undertaking, or you'll regret it!"
