C2 Interventional investigation
After examining the body, I took off my gloves and stood up just in time to see the middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes walk in. He whispered a few words into Luo Song's ear and left.
I didn't pay much attention to him. I figured he left the scene because he had something he needed to do.
I waited until the police officer made a statement to the warden's aunt, before temporarily borrowing her time. Her hands were trembling, and only by grabbing a broom could she ease up a little.
I asked her what time it was when the body was found in the morning, and she gave me an exact time. She claimed that she had wanted to clean the toilet before the students had woken up, but she didn't expect to find the body. She was scared out of her wits and rushed back to the dormitory to report it.
In this case, the messy marks were not the result of the fight between the deceased and the murderer, but from the carelessness of the auntie who was in charge of the lodgings.
After asking her a few more questions, I didn't get any useful leads. It was certain that in the dormitory she didn't see any suspects in the corridor from the surveillance, and that the toilet was a blind spot. This way, it really wouldn't be of much help to keep her at the scene, so I let him go back for the time being.
Luo Song directed all the officers at the scene, and they searched every corner of the toilet for clues, but they were all delusional. The toilet had water on the floor for a long time, and there were too many people coming and going.
The officers who had been sent to look for the missing clothes also returned, panting. They searched the trash cans and possible hiding places in the girls' dormitory, but they couldn't find any of the dead man's clothes. However, they found some bloodstained underwear in the underbrush at the bottom of the girls' dormitory.
There were too many people in and out of the toilet to get a clue as to the details of the situation.
Many murderers liked to choose the location of their crime scene as a public toilet. With too many people, the police would have to spend a lot of time and manpower to investigate it, and a lot of smell and small material evidence would be covered up by the toilet. Moreover, there were also people who would clean up the place regularly, so if the police couldn't find any clues, they could just follow the flow of water into the sewers.
My first thought was that the killer might have climbed in through the window, because there was no one in the corridor, and Luo Song said he'd checked the surveillance and didn't see anyone carrying clothes or anything out, but a lot of girls went out with their bags.
I walked around the officer who was squatting on the floor, clearing the floor, to the open window, which seemed to have no trace of being stepped on. I stuck my head out and looked up, and although it was difficult for the killer to climb up from the ground floor, it was possible that he had been hiding at the top of the building, which was only eight stories high and less than two meters from the top of the building to the window.
I ran up and pushed open the door that connected the roof. In an instant, a strong gust of wind blew over, but it was a little irritating with the heat. The empty rooftop was swept up by the hurricane and a cloud of dust was lifted into the air.
I stood alone and looked around, but there was no sound of the wind. I walked around the edge of the roof, hoping to find what I wanted, but I found nothing.
Back at the scene of the crime, I didn't continue to stay here. It would be useless if I continued like this, as there were too many possibilities of the case and the search range was too wide.
When they arrived at the auditorium where the students were gathered, it was very noisy. There were over a thousand students sitting there, all talking at the same time. It was only thanks to the Director of Education that they were able to calm down.
"Who is Chen Lu's roommate? Please come out." My words spread through the enclosed space, reverberating for a long time. Finally, there was silence for about ten seconds before a few people slowly stood up from their positions and walked towards me.
I brought the three of them to the office. The three of them sat opposite to us. "My name is Huo Zhong, I'm a policeman from the Criminal Police Squadron of Chongyang City. I hope all of you will …"
Before I could finish my sentence, the girl sitting in the middle interrupted me at first. We're just her roommates. We really don't know about anything else, but what exactly do you want to do? "
Her words rendered me speechless, so I could only look at the director in embarrassment. "It may be a little inappropriate for a child to speak, don't mind it, Brother Huo."
I nodded slightly. Apart from the girl in the middle, the other two girls were sitting there cowering, occasionally raising their heads to look at me. As soon as my gaze locked on them, they immediately lowered their heads and covered their eyes with their bangs.
"I just want to ask a few simple questions and hope that you can cooperate." I asked the Director of Moral Education to step aside, possibly because he had caused some fear among the students.
"I wonder what time Chen Lu went out this morning. Can any of you give me an accurate time?" I poured each of them a glass of water, and although some of them refused, I forced them into my hands.
I took a sip of water, and they took a careful sip. Finally, the girl sitting on the left opened her mouth as if to say something, but then glanced at the other two girls and lowered her head.
Catching this detail, I moved closer to the girl and asked her why she suddenly shut her mouth when she was clearly about to speak. She stared at me for a long time, and I noticed that the girl's hands were shaking.
This detail completely exposed the fact that she was hiding something. I purposely didn't find out about it, but kept asking the girl on the left instead, and in the end, she still said, "Last night, Chen Lu went out at around 11 PM. I don't know if she came back, but I remember that I fell asleep later on, so I'm not sure what exactly happened."
"What's she doing out there?" I knew she must know something, so I went on and asked the girl sitting in the middle. The water in her glass had already splashed on her school pants, but she didn't know that all her attention seemed to be focused on our conversation.
"She …" "She …" No matter what, the girl still couldn't tell me what happened next. I placed the water in her hand on the table and advised her not to be too nervous, as long as she cooperated with the police.
Just as I saw her about to open her mouth, the girl in the middle suddenly smashed the glass to the ground, causing water to gush out of it and flow onto the ground.
I asked her what was the matter, and she didn't speak to me, but only whispered to the other two girls, You go out first, I'll be the last.
The two girls quickly left the room, leaving only the two of us behind. The girl took a deep breath and told me her name was Liu Lin, and that she and the deceased Chen Lu were roommates and classmates.
"Actually, I was the one who called Chen Lu out last night. She doesn't have a good relationship with me, but I asked her to send me some paper. The two of us only chatted for a while in the toilet." She lowered her head, sure that it was about 11.20 p.m., ten minutes to the time of death.
I asked her what the two of them had chatted about in the toilet. Actually, since their relationship was that of a love rival, then the content of the conversation definitely couldn't be separated from the same boy — — Dan Ling. He, Chen Lu and Liu Lin were classmates.
"One Mausoleum is my boyfriend, we had been together for two months already, but Chen Lu pretended not to know, and flirted with my one Mausoleum. I wanted to clarify the matter with her last night, but I didn't want the relationship in the entire dorm to become tense, so I asked her out on my own, I didn't …" "It's not …"
At this point, her words stopped …
"You pushed her down, didn't you?" I said something for her that she had always wanted to hide, but it had always been hard to suppress in her heart …
She pushed her down...
