C10 Master Guu Asked Me to Pick You up
The crowd at the school entrance had dispersed, restoring peace to the area. However, unbeknownst to anyone, a few men in black stood in a dark alley a few hundred meters from the gate.
"Brother Kun, Ye Luo was taken by the police. He hit Zhu Chengrong's son, which could mean trouble," one of the men in black informed another.
"Zhu Chengrong?" Brother Kun licked his lips and said, "Contact him. Tell him if the Zhu family wants to keep living in Linhai, they'll need to swallow this slight. If they can't swallow it, we'll make sure they swallow their last breath."
Hearing Liu Kun's words, the men in black gasped, nodding their agreement.
...
After being brought to the police station, Ye Luo was extremely cooperative, which expedited the investigation.
Detective Leng examined the witness statements and Ye Luo's testimony with a furrowed brow.
The situation was clear-cut: Zhu Jian had ambushed Ye Luo, aiming to beat him up, but ended up getting beaten himself. Whether it was self-defense, excessive defense, or intentional harm, all explanations seemed feasible.
However, making a judgment was complex, not something that could be easily determined, especially considering Zhu Jian's status, which could likely affect the outcome of the case.
"Captain Leng, the Deputy Chief called. He said the assault at Linhai University was utterly reprehensible, criticizing the boldness of committing violence right at the school's entrance and demanding severe punishment for the perpetrator," an officer reported.
The statement was straightforward, but the underlying message was worth pondering.
Captain Leng knew what this meant: the Zhu family was applying pressure.
From the interrogation, she had learned about the disparity between Zhu Jian and Ye Luo. Zhu Jian's father, Zhu Chengrong, was a well-known entrepreneur in Linhai City, CEO of a public company, and a board member of Linhai University—a classic case of a wealthy second-generation individual. Ye Luo, in contrast, was an orphan with no parents, no power, no influence, which made the likely outcome of the case quite predictable.
However, as Captain Leng was contemplating the situation, a middle-aged man in a sharp suit rushed into her office, led by an officer.
"Who might you be?" she asked cautiously.
"Hello, I'm Zhou Liang, Mr. Ye Luo's attorney. I've come to secure his release," the middle-aged man said straightforwardly.
A lawyer for Mr. Ye Luo?
Leng Leng was surprised. It would have been no shock to her if Zhu Jian's lawyer had shown up, but Ye Luo's? That was quite puzzling. As an orphan, who would have arranged a lawyer for him? And why did the name Zhou Liang seem familiar?
Leng Leng was unaware, but the officers around her were just as stunned.
Zhou Liang, the leading lawyer in Linhai City, had a winning rate of over 80%, was nationally recognized as an outstanding lawyer, and served as the vice president of the Bar Association, among other impressive titles.
A lawyer of such stature was here for Ye Luo? What was Ye Luo's actual identity?
While whispers filled the room, Zhou Liang was undisturbed; he was accustomed to being the center of attention.
He placed an envelope on Leng Leng's desk. "Inside, you'll find the bail amount and all relevant documents. There's also evidence to support my client's claim of self-defense regarding this incident."
Self-defense?
Zhou Liang's statement left Leng Leng and the officers present momentarily dumbfounded.
"Captain Leng, the evidence here is more than sufficient to support my statements. Furthermore, the Zhu family will not be pressing charges. Before coming here, I visited Zhu Jian in the hospital. He personally admitted to me that they were the aggressors and even bribed others to frame my client. He's filled with regret now."
"What? Zhu Jian personally admitted to framing Ye Luo?" Zhou Liang's words were almost too incredible to believe. Just a couple of hours earlier, Zhu Jian had been at the university gates loudly accusing Ye Luo of murder, demanding severe punishment.
"The documents include Zhu Jian's signed and fingerprinted confession, as well as a video of his remorse and apology. If you have any doubts, Captain Leng, please watch it." Zhou Liang offered, pulling out his phone and playing the video.
In the video, Zhu Jian sat on the hospital bed, tearfully confessing his wrongdoings. He admitted to framing Ye Luo and expressed deep regret. He vowed to turn himself in once he recovered and was willing to face punishment. His display left Leng Leng utterly dumbfounded.
"Officer Leng, as you can see, I've got my client's affairs in order. Can we proceed with his release now? If there's anything else you need, just let me know, and I'll prepare it," Zhou Liang said, his tone courteous but his eyes resolute. He was determined to take Ye Luo with him that day.
With everything in place, Zhu Jian's admission of guilt, and no valid reason to detain Ye Luo, Officer Leng Leng had to let him go.
Minutes later, under Zhou Liang's guidance, Ye Luo walked out of the police station. Parked nearby was a Mercedes-Benz 600 flanked by two Land Rovers.
As Ye Luo and Zhou Liang appeared, a group of men quickly approached. At the forefront was Iron Fist Liu Kun, who had previously traded punches with Ye Luo at the Supreme Wealthy Class. Iron Fist was in a bit of an awkward state, his right hand bandaged and resting in a sling.
"Mr. Ye, Mr. Liu, I'm glad to report that I've completed my task. I'll be on my way now," Zhou Liang said, shaking hands with Ye Luo before getting into the Mercedes.
"Mr. Ye, Master Guu has sent me to pick you up," Liu Kun announced.
The sight of Liu Kun didn't surprise Ye Luo. In his previous life, he had interacted with Guu Tianxiong, a man of principle and courage who had helped Ye Luo and whose illness Ye Luo had cured.
Now that he had a second chance, Ye Luo was willing to help Guu Tianxiong with his illness earlier, as long as Guu was cooperative.
"What about my friend?" Ye Luo asked, referring to Hsu Danian.
"Don't worry, he's been safely returned to the university. I've dealt with the Zhu family; they won't dare to bother your friend. Also, Mr. Ye, if you're free now, Master Guu is waiting for you," Liu Kun said politely.
Ye Luo nodded and followed Liu Kun into the Land Rover. They quickly drove off, leaving a cloud of dust behind.
What Ye Luo didn't realize was that as he left, several pairs of eyes were watching him intently.
Standing at the window of the police station office, the twilight casting a heavy gloom, an icy demeanor prevailed.
"Can an orphan secure Zhu Liang's bail? Can an orphan be picked up in a Range Rover? Ye Luo, just who are you? I'm determined to uncover your true identity. My eyes, cold and unyielding, tolerate no deceit."
Initially, there were concerns that Zhu Jian, being a rich second-generation heir, might tilt the scales of justice unfairly against Ye Luo. However, it now seems that Ye Luo might be the more influential second-generation. This piqued the interest of the previously indifferent observer.
Meanwhile, not far from the police station, Ziyuan stood side by side with a middle-aged man next to an Audi, their gazes following Ye Luo as he departed.
"Miss, the man who came for Ye Luo is named Liu Kun, an associate of the Gu family's Guu Tianxiong," the middle-aged man informed Ziyuan.
Ziyuan's eyes, both delicate and captivating, sparkled with intrigue as she ran her tongue over her crimson lips. "So, he could be linked to the Gu family? That would explain his audacity in inflicting serious harm on Zhu Jian."
