C14 Get out of the Hospital Immediately!

Upon hearing the doctor's words, Ann Xin's complexion stalled, then she lifted her head, her voice tinged with urgency, "Is there a way? What can I do to help? I'll do anything to keep my mom from being discharged."

"Anything at all?" The young doctor set aside the documents he was holding and approached Ann Xin.

"Ann Xin, your aunt has been in the hospital for quite some time. You know how I've treated you all this while, so let's not mince words. Become my woman, and I'll take care of your aunt's hospitalization."

Ann Xin's face registered shock at his proposition.

She knew this doctor well—Chen Junjie, the Deputy Chief Physician of the Nephrology Department. During the months her mother had been hospitalized, he had visited many times.

Truthfully, Ann Xin was grateful to him, but she had never anticipated such a demand.

"Dr. Chen, you're married, aren't you? And I have a boyfriend," Ann Xin stammered, her lips quivering, avoiding Chen Junjie's gaze.

"Married?" Chen Junjie scoffed. "I've long stopped caring about that shrew at home. I only married her because she's the Deputy Director's daughter. But Ann Xin, my feelings for you are genuine. Believe me, if you're with me, I can give you everything except a title."

As he reached for her hand, Ann Xin quickly stepped back, evading his grasp. His words left her feeling chilled and repulsed. She had never imagined this seemingly cultured doctor could be such a person.

"Dr. Chen, I'm sorry, I can't do that. I'll find a way to cover my mom's medical expenses. Thank you," Ann Xin said, her voice firm despite the tears in her eyes.

Chen Junjie's expression turned icy with Ann Xin's refusal.

"Raise the money? With what? Aside from your looks, what do you have of value? Your mother's surgery will cost at least 300,000 yuan. You couldn't raise that much even if you sold yourself. If you were wise, you'd accept my offer. Otherwise, prepare for her discharge immediately."

"I refuse to believe it. I'll find a way to get the money," Ann Xin declared, wiping away her tears with a defiant air.

"Well then, go ahead. But first, you need to move your mother out of the ward; we have new patients coming in," Chen Junjie said through clenched teeth.

"New patients? How can that be? My mother's medical fees aren't due until tomorrow. It's already late today, and you're telling us to leave the hospital. What are we supposed to do?" Ann Xin pleaded, her voice tinged with desperation.

"That's not our concern. We're not a charity. Do you expect us to take care of everything?" Chen Junjie retorted coldly. "Move it. You're wasting time."

"On what grounds are you forcing us out today?"

"On what grounds? I'm the deputy director here, and it's hospital policy. If you can't pay the bill, you need to leave right now, today," Chen Junjie said, and without further ado, he grabbed Ann Xin's suitcase and started dragging it out of the room.

"No, you can't do this!" Ann Xin rushed to intervene, but with a casual shove from Chen Junjie, she stumbled and fell to the ground.

"Please, I'm begging you," she sobbed.

"Pleading won't help. Rules are rules. However, if you accept my offer now, there's still time," Chen Junjie said with a malicious smirk, no longer bothering to hide his true intentions.

"You can forget it. I'll never agree to your terms."

"Fine. If you want to play the martyr, be prepared to watch your mother suffer the consequences." With that, Chen Junjie called out to the nurses nearby, "Get over here and process the discharge for the patient in Room 207, immediately!"

At Chen Junjie's command, the nurses hurried over without question.

"No, you can't do this. Get away, get away!" Ann Xin was like a madwoman, blocking the ward door to prevent the nurses from entering.

"Security! We have a patient causing a disturbance. Come handle this immediately and remove the troublemaker," Chen Junjie bellowed. He was determined to coerce Ann Xin into submission.

For months, he had been eyeing Ann Xin, initially hoping to sweet-talk her into compliance. But since Ann Xin was oblivious to her own best interests, he had no qualms about resorting to more aggressive tactics.

Guu Tianxiong arranged for a car to take Ye Luo and Xie Quanzhang to the People's Hospital.

Despite the late hour, the significance of Xie Quanzhang's visit meant that the hospital's director, Lee Wenqing, along with several senior staff members, were eagerly awaiting their arrival at a special entrance.

"Elder Xie, at last, you're here. Your presence truly graces our hospital," Director Lee Wenqing said, his excitement palpable as he shook Xie Quanzhang's hand.

Typically a figure of authority, the director's deference to Xie Quanzhang was telling of the latter's esteemed status within the medical community.

"Haha, we're all in the medical profession, so let's dispense with formalities. I apologize for the late arrival; a patient matter delayed us, and I'm sorry to have kept everyone waiting," Xie Quanzhang responded with humility.

"Not at all, Elder Xie. Your dedication to your patients is exemplary, and we all have much to learn from you. I've arranged a place for you to rest, please, allow me to show you," Lee Wenqing offered.

Ye Luo couldn't help but reflect on the advantages of having influence and status. For most, a hospital visit was a plea for help, and meeting the director was far from guaranteed.

"Let's not rush. I'd like to check out the lecture hall and get a lay of the land for tomorrow's presentation. I'll be able to make my own way there in the morning," Xie Quanzhang suggested.

"Of course, I'll accompany you, Elder Xie."

With that, the entourage proceeded to escort Xie Quanzhang inside, treating Ye Luo as nothing more than an assistant, sparing him little attention.

As they walked through the inpatient department's lobby, a commotion broke out, the sound of a woman's cries cutting through the quiet of the night.

Director Lee Wenqing's expression soured instantly.

While outbursts were not uncommon in the hospital, this was an inopportune time for such a disturbance, with Xie Quanzhang in their midst—a towering figure in the field of medicine. Leaving a poor impression now could be costly.

"What's the issue? Go take care of it, quickly," Lee Wenqing instructed the office director beside him.

Without a moment's hesitation, the office director dashed off to address the situation.

"It's just a trivial matter. Elder Xie, shall we head out?" came a casual remark.

However, Ye Luo's brow furrowed suddenly. Thanks to his advanced cultivation, his hearing was far superior to that of an average person. The commotion, although distant and seemingly from another floor, was crystal clear to him. The cries he heard, he realized, sounded distressingly like Ann Xin's.

"Elder Xie, please proceed with your business; I need to attend to something," Ye Luo stated, and without waiting for Xie Quanzhang's response, he swiftly moved in the direction of the cries.

Lee Wenqing and the others exchanged concerned glances as they watched Ye Luo depart solo. They couldn't help but think that Elder Xie's assistant was acting rather inappropriately by leaving so abruptly.

But with Xie Quanzhang remaining silent, they felt it wasn't their place to comment.

Xie Quanzhang watched Ye Luo's hastening figure with a touch of surprise. What could possibly make someone as composed as Ye Luo act with such urgency?

With that thought, Xie Quanzhang hastened to follow.

"Elder Xie, the conference room is this way," Lee Wenqing informed him.

"Let's not rush. We should see what's going on first," Xie Quanzhang decided.
