C9 Icycold
After weighing her options, she ultimately chose to stand with Zhu Jian.
"Wang Ping, you're talking nonsense! How could you slander Ye Luo like that? Damn, I, Hsu Danian, must have been blind to have ever been attracted to a woman like you!" Hsu Danian lunged toward Wang Ping, intent on slapping her. Her testimony could very well determine Ye Luo's future. Thankfully, Ye Luo grabbed him and held him back.
In hindsight, this incident allowed Hsu Danian the opportunity to see Wang Ping for who she truly was.
"I'm just stating the facts. That's what I saw," Wang Ping claimed.
"Fine, we'll let the police sort this out. I'm sure justice will be served," Chen Chaohui stated.
Chen Chaohui had wanted to take Ye Luo into custody to have something to report to Zhu Chengrong, the school director. But he was no match for Ye Luo, who seemed to be in a frenzy today, completely disregarding the principal's authority. Chen was forced to endure the situation.
"Ye Luo, you should leave quickly. It's going to get messy when the police arrive," Hsu Danian murmured to Ye Luo.
Despite being in the right, Ye Luo knew that righteousness was of little use in a society ruled by power and connections. With Zhu Jian's family background, it would be all too easy to ruin Ye Luo.
If Ye Luo were arrested, he might never come back.
Ye Luo had the power to flee or to use force to deal with Zhu Jian and his entire family. However, he preferred to avoid that route for the time being to prevent unnecessary complications.
The world isn't as simple as it seems on the surface; beneath its harmonious facade are countless dangers.
In Huaxia, there are true masters and Martial Cultivators, though they do not reveal themselves to ordinary people.
Since his rebirth, less than half a day had passed, and Ye Luo had only recovered a minuscule fraction of his strength. It wasn't enough for him to be completely self-reliant, so he had to keep a low profile.
Moreover, taking such action could potentially involve Hsu Danian in the ordeal.
"Don't worry, I also believe that the police will definitely arrive at a fair verdict."
The police arrived quickly, which was to be expected when the president of Linhai University personally reports an incident, particularly one with dozens of injured students. They took the situation very seriously.
Three police cars and a dozen officers descended on the scene, weapons drawn, as they surrounded Ye Luo as if he were a notorious felon.
The scene left the student onlookers dumbfounded.
"Hurry, arrest him! He's trying to kill me; he's a murderer!" Zhu Jian exclaimed, pointing at Ye Luo with a surge of excitement upon seeing the armed officers.
The commanding officer was a tall woman, about 1.7 meters in height. Her uniform accentuated her formidable figure, especially at the chest, where it seemed as though two beasts were straining against the fabric, ready to pop the sturdy buttons at any moment.
"What is this? Why cause such a disturbance at the school entrance? Put your guns away," the policewoman commanded.
The officers' immediate brandishing of their weapons upon exiting their vehicles was not well-received, given the many students present.
"Captain Leng, since you're new to Linhai, you might not know that the victim is Zhu Jian, the Zhu family's young master. The perpetrator is extremely violent, so we must protect the students and prevent the criminal from exploiting any opportunity. That's why the officers reacted so strongly," one of the officers explained.
The policewoman, named Leng Bing, was the captain of the Criminal Police Squad at the Linhai University precinct in Linhai City, having recently transferred from Yan Jing. This was her inaugural operation as team leader.
Leng Bing furrowed her brow, questioning why her colleague felt the need to emphasize the victim's identity as the Zhu family's young master, as if it were of paramount importance.
Personally, she disdained such status declarations. As a police officer, she believed in treating everyone equally, without distinction between young masters and commoners.
Her move from Yan Jing to Linhai to become a frontline detective was motivated by her desire to escape the power plays of influential families and to stand by the justice she held dear.
"Understood," Leng Bing responded with a cold huff, approaching Principal Chen Chaohui first.
"Who reported the incident, and what has occurred?"
"Oh, officer, I made the call. The situation is as follows..." Chen Chaohui began, glossing over certain aspects of the event. His narrative, along with testimonies from Wang Ping and the students lying on the ground, painted a clear picture: Ye Luo was the aggressor, depicted as a merciless criminal.
Leng Bing cast a cold glance over the people writhing in pain on the ground, her eyes resting on Zhu Jian, whose legs were clearly crippled. Her face darkened as she approached Ye Luo and asked, "Did you do this?"
"Yes," Ye Luo answered without hesitation.
"All by yourself?"
"Just me."
Despite her impassive exterior, Leng Bing was internally shaken. A seasoned martial artist and multiple-time champion herself, she could easily take down seven or eight thugs.
But twenty or thirty people? She'd have no choice but to run, even if they were merely students. Yet here was Ye Luo, having taken down so many without a single mark on him, not even a hint of having been in a fight. How did he manage that?
And now, standing before her, Ye Luo showed not the slightest trace of fear. Did he have something up his sleeve?
"Take the injured to the hospital. Bring the perpetrator and the witnesses to the station," Leng Bing commanded.
Everyone tensed, expecting Ye Luo to resist, but he surprised them all by cooperating, letting the police handcuff him and voluntarily stepping into the police car.
"Call my dad now. I want that kid locked up for good, to suffer more than death itself!" Zhu Jian furiously dialed his phone as soon as the police had left.
The onlooking students erupted into a mix of excitement, reflection, and head-shaking. Ye Luo had certainly done a good deed today. Considering Zhu Jian's state, he wouldn't be walking the school halls for quite some time, meaning one less bully to worry about.
But the price Ye Luo might pay seemed unimaginable. He could very well spend the rest of his life in prison, if he could even stay there at all.
"Xiao Qin, find out everything you can about this Ye Luo," the girl in purple, who had been closely watching Ye Luo, instructed the beautiful girl beside her.
"Ah? Sister Ziyuan, why investigate him? He's just an orphan and labeled as the school's loser. Everyone knows that," Xiao Qin responded, puzzled.
"Just do it. I want his full profile within half an hour. Also, contact Uncle Feng for me. Tell him I need to visit the police station and that he should accompany me," Ziyuan said with a faint smile. An orphan, a loser? Could someone who single-handedly knocked out over twenty people in a flash be called a loser? Could someone who remains composed in front of the principal and the police really be considered a loser?
If someone like him is considered worthless, what does that say about Zhu Jian? And those lying defeated on the ground, what are they?
"Ah? To the police station? You're thinking of bailing out Ye Luo? Sister Ziyuan, is that really necessary? We don't even know the guy. Besides, Ye Luo broke Zhu Jian's legs; the Zhu family is definitely not going to let that slide. We don't need to be making enemies with them."
"Why so much talk? If you're not coming, I'll just go alone," Ziyuan stated, her face taking on a more serious tone.
"Alright, alright, I'll go. Are you satisfied now?"
