C7 It Is Easy to Invite God but Hard to Send God Away!
"Nonsense! What's untouchable about an entertainment star?" Faang Zhengsheng exclaimed in frustration. "Don't you start with any individualistic antics at this crucial juncture. This situation is more complex than you think."
Chee Jun shook his head, "I'm not referring to Su Mingyue. It's her husband."
There was a pause on the other end of the phone before the voice clarified, "You should be aware of the general circumstances. Our duty is to handle the case fairly."
Chee Jun nodded. "I understand."
"So explain to me, why is the husband of a celebrity off-limits?"
Faang Zhengsheng, as a leader, was not one to mince words.
In the entertainment world, it's commonplace for stars to marry into wealth.
But in this case, they had crossed the Han family. Could Su Mingyue's husband, regardless of his influence, really make the Han Group take a loss?
Chee Jun replied succinctly, "Because he's untouchable."
"Ridiculous!" Faang Zhengsheng barked. "Did they not cause injury? Did it not meet the threshold for sentencing?"
Chee Jun responded with a sense of resignation, "Chief Faang. You're familiar with my background. To be frank, I'm merely on the fringe, barely at the threshold. But him, he's at the very heart of the core. You might find it laughable, but after two years at my former post, I wasn't even worthy to salute him."
Faang Zhengsheng, initially very displeased, lapsed into silence.
He valued Chee Jun, a newcomer from above, for two reasons: his exceptional talent and his unique identity, as the old leadership had directed him to cultivate Chee Jun's potential.
"This complicates matters," Faang Zhengsheng muttered, massaging his forehead, his frustration evident. "From what you're saying, not only are they too powerful for us to confront, but we don't even have the jurisdiction?"
"That's one way to look at it," Chee Jun agreed, then added, "If we were to detain him, that's not even my biggest concern."
"What is it then?" Faang Zhengsheng inquired.
"It's easy to invite a deity, but difficult to send one away," Chee Jun said, his lips pressed together.
Faang Zhengsheng felt a heavy weight on his heart and commanded Chee Jun to immediately pull his team out.
After ending the call, Chee Jun disregarded Mrs. Han's taunts and insults, instructing his team to withdraw.
Consumed by rage, Mrs. Han lashed out, "Chee Jun, you're shameless when you're shown respect!"
Chee Jun furrowed his brow, preferring to avoid further complications. He led his team towards the exit. Inevitably, he crossed paths with Chu Yun.
He neither greeted him nor dared to.
The secrecy at his former unit was so intense that not even the leadership pried. And even if they did, Chee Jun couldn't disclose anything.
Chee Jun averted his eyes as he brushed past.
Chu Yun, hands in his pockets, coldly muttered, "Pathetic."
Chee Jun shuddered, his face flushing with heat.
Yet he couldn't utter a word, steeling himself to push open the door and flee.
"Lock the door!"
After Chee Jun's departure, Mrs. Han's face twisted with fury. "If anyone dares to leave, break their legs!" she ordered.
The bodyguard obeyed, his towering frame menacingly blocking the doorway.
Mrs. Han retreated to the lounge to make a phone call, leaving everyone in the conference room on edge, the tension palpable.
They were aware that Mrs. Han, having been outmaneuvered by Chee Jun, was about to strike back hard.
Chu Yun, however, seemed indifferent, seizing the moment to strike up a conversation with the reticent Su Mingyue. "Thirsty?" he asked.
Su Mingyue shook her head.
Despite her inner strength, she couldn't maintain her composure under such pressure.
Fully antagonizing the Han family was more than she could handle, and the Su family would surely suffer the consequences.
She had no regrets about her actions, but she was ready to face the inevitable backlash.
She had never been one to ask for help, but she understood the gravity of the situation.
Chee Jun's abrupt withdrawal might have seemed like a tactical retreat, but it was likely to provoke a more vicious retaliation.
She didn't fault Chu Yun for his brashness, yet she recognized that they were in a checkmate situation with no way to reverse course.
"You can go."
Su Mingyue's eyes sparkled, and her lips parted slightly as she spoke, "You owe me nothing. And if you did, it's been settled."
Chu Yun chuckled. "Xiaoxiao called me a coward, lacking in resolve. The Su family disdains me, thinking I'm a freeloader, a drag on you."
With a flick, Chu Yun lit a cigarette, his lips tight. "If I were to leave now... wouldn't the Su family just snap my spine?"
"Do you really care?" Su Mingyue cast a casual glance at Chu Yun.
Exhaling a cloud of smoke, Chu Yun's gaze darkened. "Just last night, someone was hitting on my wife. And just now, someone tried to pick a fight with her. Yes, I care. A lot."
Su Mingyue fell silent.
Mrs. Han didn't rush out after finishing her phone call.
Indeed, after that call, she didn't need to step in anymore.
She was more than happy for the police to stay out of it.
Handling the situation with her own methods was the only way to get the satisfying revenge she craved.
The meeting room was as silent as the grave. The oppressive atmosphere was suffocating, and Chen Xiuling was terrified. She deeply regretted being the one to step forward. Had she known it would lead to this, she never would have gone to the Su family's place today. It was a self-inflicted misery.
Beyond her resentment for Chu Yun, she was also incensed by Su Mingyue's actions.
You let that nobody tell you to hit him, and you just did it? He can just walk away and vanish. But can you, Su Mingyue? Can you really leave the Su family behind and live on the run with him?
On the ground floor of the Unhindered Entertainment building.
After Chee Jun ordered a retreat, he didn't return with his team. Instead, he waited patiently in his car, smoking.
"Captain Chee, what are we waiting for here?" his right-hand man asked from the passenger seat, curiosity in his voice.
"This won't end easily," Chee Jun said, exhaling smoke and squinting his eyes. "Mrs. Han is bound to seek revenge."
His confidant gave a wry smile. "Since we didn't intervene earlier, even if Mrs. Han seeks retribution, it wouldn't be appropriate for you to step in now, would it, Captain Chee?"
Chee Jun let out a sigh. "I'm worried it might lead to fatalities."
His confidant clicked his tongue in disbelief. "Surely it won't come to that, right? No matter how overbearing the Han family is, they wouldn't dare to be so reckless, would they?"
"It's not the Han family I'm concerned about," Chee Jun said, furrowing his brow.
A sense of dread settled over the confidant, who cautiously asked, "Captain Chee, what's the story with that guy? You pulled out without a second thought, and not even our superiors objected. Could he have more clout than the Han family?"
"Stop prying," Chee Jun commanded sternly. "Knowing too much isn't good for you."
As they spoke, several intimidating off-road vehicles pulled up at the entrance.
A dozen sharply dressed, strapping young men leapt from the cars, their movements swift and their expressions steely.
"We're done for!" the confidant exclaimed, slapping his thigh in alarm. "Mrs. Han is really going for broke!"
Chee Jun caught a glimpse of the suited young men storming into the building and recognized where they came from.
The bodyguard company that had recently opened in Pearl City had solid, raw strength, and they played by their own rules. Most of the bodyguards had backgrounds as professional mercenaries abroad. In less than a year since its inception, it had already become a favorite among the city's wealthy elite, earning a stellar reputation.
"That's enough. Let's head back," Chee Jun said as he snuffed out his cigarette and hit the gas.
"Ah?" The confidant was taken aback. "Captain Chee, aren't you concerned that these guys might go too far and create a bad scene?"
"They're a welcome presence," Chee Jun said with a smirk. "At the very least, they can take a punch."
