C15 Hospital Conflict
“You've crossed the line! Why did you push my mother?”
Cheng Yuwei’s expression darkened as she confronted the young nurse.
“Crossed the line? If you want me to stop, then pay up the hospital fees you owe. How can someone who can’t scrape together the hospitalization fees have the nerve to accuse others of going too far? Pfft…” The young nurse retorted with a sneer, showing no sign of backing down.
“What did you just say? Who can’t pay the hospitalization fees? I demand that you apologize to my mother this instant!” Cheng Yuwei was shaking with rage.
“Apologize to someone as poor as you? Please… If you manage to pay off the 120,000 dollars you owe, I’ll do more than apologize—I’d slap myself if it came to that,” the nurse said, her face twisted with scorn.
“Alright, remember you said that!” Cheng Yuwei’s tone was icy.
“Yes, I said it, and everyone here can vouch for that! There’s a payment kiosk right in the hallway—go settle the bill!” The nurse scoffed.
With a fierce glare, Cheng Yuwei pulled out her phone and dialed her company’s finance department in front of everyone. “Xiao Yu, transfer 150,000 dollars from the company account to my personal one.”
After ending the call, she turned to the nurse with a steely gaze. “Someone like you doesn’t deserve to work in healthcare.”
“Hahaha, don’t jump to conclusions. Let’s see if this so-called 150,000 dollars actually comes through before you start making claims. Wouldn’t want you to end up embarrassing yourself,” the nurse mocked, clearly skeptical that Cheng Yuwei could produce such an amount after struggling for so long.
“Yuwei, do you really have the money now?” The middle-aged woman approached Cheng Yuwei, her face alight with hope, and whispered.
“Mom, relax. My company has secured a new investor. Our financial issues are completely resolved,” Cheng Yuwei reassured her.
The middle-aged woman burst into joy and turned to the nurse, lashing out, “You little wretch, you’re nothing but a snobbish tramp. How dare you push me earlier?
Just wait until my daughter’s money comes through. I’ll make you regret your words!”
Cheng Yuwei frowned, clearly disapproving of her mother’s outburst. She gently pulled her back, “Mom, let’s not stoop to her level. She may lack decency, but we will not.”
“No way, this little wretch has been taunting me every day. I’ve had enough. Today, I’m getting justice,” the middle-aged woman insisted.
Just then, Cheng Yuwei’s phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID and answered quickly, “What’s up, Xiao Yu? Is it done?”
“Director Cheng, the bank has seized all the funds from our company account!” came the anxious reply.
“What? Seized everything? How can that be? We clearly had ten million in the account, and we only owe the bank five million. Why would they take the rest?” Cheng Yuwei was incredulous.
“Director Cheng, I’ve just spoken to the bank. They claim the five million was a security deposit promised by Hong Yang Group!” The voice on the phone explained further.
Cheng Yuwei’s complexion turned ghostly pale.
She realized she had been outmaneuvered by Zhao Hongyang once again.
At that thought, her mind reeled as if it had been struck by lightning.
Her legs gave way, and she collapsed backward with a heavy thud.
The middle-aged woman quickly steadied her, her face etched with concern. "What's wrong, Yuwei? What's happened?"
Cheng Yuwei could no longer contain herself, and tears streamed down her face. "Mom, I'm sorry. I've let you down again."
"What exactly is going on? Yuwei, you need to explain!" The middle-aged woman's worry intensified.
"Hahaha, keep up the performance! Go on!" sneered the nurse. "It's laughable, really. You're clearly a family with neither money nor influence, and yet you have the audacity to put on airs here? Looks like you won't be able to cover the hospital bill today, so prepare to collect your second daughter's body," she said with venomous laughter.
"You vile wretch! How dare you curse my daughter! I'll fight you for this!" The middle-aged woman's eyes blazed with fury as she lunged at the nurse.
"Oh? Looking for a fight? Help! We've got troublemakers here!" The nurse called out confidently to the hallway.
No sooner had she spoken than several burly men charged into the room with an intimidating presence. The leader, a muscular man in sunglasses, bellowed as he entered, "Who's the fool causing a scene?"
The middle-aged woman froze in terror, no longer daring to move forward.
In recent years, with medical disputes becoming frequent, hospitals had begun hiring security personnel to prevent such incidents. These men were the security team for the ward.
"It's these two bitches! They refuse to pay the hospital fees and even attacked me. Brother Shan, you need to give them a proper lesson," the nurse pointed accusingly at the middle-aged woman and Cheng Yuwei.
Brother Shan's eyes glinted menacingly. "Refusing to pay and resorting to violence? Kneel down and apologize to this nurse right now!"
"Why should we apologize... She was the one who insulted us first!" the middle-aged woman protested defiantly.
"Why? Because this is our turf! Enough talk, kneel down now. If you don't, my brothers won't be so courteous," Brother Shan threatened with a malicious grin, advancing on the middle-aged woman.
Terrified, the middle-aged woman's complexion turned ashen as she stumbled backward. "What... what are you going to do?"
"Kneel!" Brother Shan's command echoed thunderously, causing the middle-aged woman to collapse to the floor.
"Don't you dare yell at my mom!"
Just then, a fierce voice cut through the tension. Cheng Yuwei, frail but determined, stepped in front of Brother Shan to shield her mother.
Brother Shan paused, then ogled Cheng Yuwei with lecherous eyes. "Well, well, well... I hadn't noticed before, but we have quite the beauty here."
Feeling his gaze crawl over her, Cheng Yuwei recoiled slightly and shouted, "We haven't caused any trouble. I'm warning you, don't try anything foolish, or I will call the police immediately."
Brother Shan's laughter boomed out. "Hahaha, oh really? Proving you're not troublemakers is simple. Just pay what you owe the hospital, and I'll be on my way. If not... well, perhaps you'd like to keep me company for a while?"
"Shameless!" Cheng Yuwei quivered with rage, her hand flying out to deliver a fierce slap across the man's face.
But 'Brother Shan' seized her wrist in an iron grip. "Damn it, you bitch. Refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit. You dare call me shameless? I'll show you just how shameless I can be!"
With those words, he leered at Cheng Yuwei, his hand reaching toward her.
"Let go of me... let go..." Cheng Yuwei's voice was tinged with terror as she desperately tried to wriggle free.
But what chance did a delicate girl like her stand against such a hulking brute? No matter how fiercely she fought, escape eluded her.
As the man's dark, grotesque hand inched ever closer, despair washed over Cheng Yuwei's face, and she shut her eyes, succumbing to the humiliation.
