C6 Cheng Yuwei's Troubles!
"Mr. Cheng, I..." Lin Tian faltered, struggling to find the words. Despite having so much to say, he couldn't voice a single sentence. How could he begin to explain? Should he outright say, "You saved my life six years ago, and now I'm here to repay you by protecting you"? He chuckled to himself, knowing full well that such a declaration would have Cheng Yuwei label him a fool and promptly show him the door.
After all, six years was a long time, and she might not even remember saving someone in passing. And considering he was likely a bloody mess from the accident, she probably hadn't gotten a good look at him.
"Lin Tian, if I'm not mistaken, you and Lili have been having some relationship troubles lately, haven't you?" Cheng Yuwei said, misinterpreting his hesitation. "Don't worry. As Lili's friend and your boss, I'll talk to her for you." She had picked up on the office gossip and assumed Lin Tian was seeking her intervention with Xu Lili.
"Mr. Cheng, that's not what I'm trying to say," Lin Tian corrected, shaking his head.
"Oh? Not that? Well then, let's see... If I remember correctly, your salary is 3200 dollars. How about I bump it up to 4000? Spend a little more on Lili, make her happy. Sometimes, all it takes is a little extra attention to keep a woman content," Cheng Yuwei offered, trying to solve what she thought was the problem.
She sighed deeply before continuing, "Lin Tian, I can tell you're a decent man. You're hardworking, considerate, and loyal to Lili. You may not have a unique talent, but I respect your integrity. Rest assured, as long as you continue to perform well at the company, I won't let you down."
In that moment, Lin Tian gazed at the earnest woman before him, his heart heavy with a mix of respect and frustration. This was the same brave girl who had once stood up against extortion to save someone in distress. She was nothing like Xu Lili, whose vanity and malice were beyond comparison. How could he have been so blind not to see it sooner?
The sharp ring of a phone cut through his thoughts. Cheng Yuwei's expression turned to one of concern as she quickly answered the call.
"Hello, Director Zhao, it's about time you got in touch. When will the remaining five million be transferred? Today's the deadline, and the bank has been pressuring me. If we don't receive the funds, they'll seize my company."
"What do you mean it won't arrive? Director Zhao, we had an agreement, didn't we?"
"You're joking, right? This money is crucial for me."
"Who do you take me for, Director Zhao? Do you think I'd sacrifice my dignity and principles for five million?"
With a scoff, she declared, "I don't even need to ponder that question. The answer is a resounding 'No'—now and forever!"
With a furious slam, the phone crashed to the floor. Anger etched across Cheng Yuwei's delicate features as she cursed, "Bastard! Trash! Damned scoundrel!"
She stormed out of the office, leaving Lin Tian behind, her earlier words forgotten. Though he hadn't heard the other side of the conversation, Lin Tian could infer she was facing a financial crisis.
Watching her retreating figure, Lin Tian was struck by her fierce pride and spirit—qualities that were evidently innate to her. She was someone who couldn't stand the slightest injustice, nor would she ever let herself be sullied by the mere whiff of corruption.
"Yuwei, don't worry. Whatever challenges you face, I've got your back."
In that moment, Lin Tian's resolve deepened. A girl of such character, principles, and determination was someone he knew deserved his lifelong protection.
Meanwhile, shortly after Cheng Yuwei had departed, Hu Yong and Xu Lili made their way back to the company.
"Ah... Mr. Hu, Lili, what happened to you two?"
"What's going on? You both look like you've been in a fight. My goodness, Mr. Hu, are you okay?"
"Seriously, who did this to you? They didn't hold back at all."
"Who in the world would dare to attack our Mr. Hu? They must have a death wish."
"Absolutely, we can't let them get away with this..."
The sight of the pair looking like they'd been through a meat grinder set off a wave of shock and commotion among the employees.
"Damn it, don't even bring it up. It was that dog, Lin Tian," Hu Yong spat out, visibly agitated.
The crowd was stunned.
"What? Lin Tian did this?"
"How could that be possible? How could that good-for-nothing have the guts to hit you, Mr. Hu?"
"Mr. Hu, that guy just came back to our company. Should we give him a piece of our mind?"
Hu Yong and Xu Lili's faces turned pale upon hearing this.
"What? Say that again? That lowlife actually had the audacity to return to our company?" Hu Yong bellowed.
"Yes, he came back right before you two returned. That disgusting fool went straight to CEO Cheng's office," said Qin Hui, the bespectacled man.
"Where is that dog now?" Hu Yong was seething, his eyes red with rage.
"He's in CEO Cheng's office. As soon as that waste of space arrived, he went straight to her. He's probably snitching on you two," Qin Hui informed.
Hu Yong's anger was like a thunderclap. "That damn cur has the nerve to come here and tattle on me? Hmph, does he think I'm scared? I swear, if I don't break him today, I'm not a Hu!"
With a roar, Hu Yong stormed off toward Cheng Yuwei's office, fury in his stride.
