C3 The Fake Doctor
"Don't make a fool of yourself with your pathetic excuse for medical skills!" Huang Wan scolded without a hint of mercy. "If you were truly capable, would you have been such a pushover these last two years? It's utter nonsense!"
Jiang Chen regarded their mockery as nothing more than background noise. He beckoned to a nurse and inquired, "Do you have silver needles here?"
"Kid, are you seriously going to attempt treatment? Remember, human life is precious; this isn't something to take lightly!" Prof. Hee warned.
However, Jiang Chen had already received the needles from the nurse and replied icily, "Just observe from the sidelines and refrain from interrupting my treatment."
"You—" Prof. Hee was livid, hopping mad. Jiang Chen's tone was as if he were a teacher scolding a student. When had Prof. Hee ever been subjected to such indignity?
He scoffed, "Fine, I'm eager to see what you're capable of!"
His words brimmed with self-assurance. As a medical specialist, he had great confidence in his own assessments.
"We'll find out soon enough," Jiang Chen retorted with a cold laugh, then proceeded to insert the first silver needle.
"Stop, Jiang Chen!"
"Don't you dare make a move!"
"Jiang Chen, you've got some nerve trying to treat with your half-baked skills. If anything goes wrong, you'll deeply regret it!"
Huang Wan, Lin Jingqiu, and Huang Kai immediately tried to intervene, their tones thick with skepticism.
Their incessant chatter was exasperating.
"Silence!"
Jiang Chen bellowed. In his past life, he was a commanding officer in the special forces. Accustomed to the harrowing battlefields, he exuded an intimidating presence.
Moreover, after transitioning to a celebrity entrepreneur managing a vast workforce, he had naturally cultivated a commanding aura.
This presence was so formidable that it demanded respect and attention.
Thus, when he raised his voice, Huang Wan and the others were taken aback.
They suddenly sensed a change in Jiang Chen, as if he were not the same man as before.
"Huang Kai, you've always claimed my medical expertise is fraudulent. Do you have the guts to wager against me?" Jiang Chen challenged, his eyebrows arching sharply.
"You—" Huang Kai was taken aback, not expecting Jiang Chen, whom he viewed as a nobody, to speak with such authority. Frustrated and embarrassed by his own reaction to Jiang Chen's earlier words, he blurted out, "A bet? Fine, let's bet. What are your terms?"
"Alright! Prof. Hee, whom you brought here, insists that my uncle won't survive the night. So, if I manage to get my uncle through tonight, you'll owe me three deep bows!" Jiang Chen declared.
Huang Kai had been challenging him relentlessly. If Jiang Chen didn't stand up to him, Huang Kai would continue to think he was a pushover!
"Agreed," Huang Kai responded with a sneer. "However, if you fail to heal him, then I want you to leave Jingqiu and sever all ties with the Lin family forever."
"It's a deal!"
Jiang Chen had been wanting to divorce Lin Jingqiu for a while, so Huang Kai's condition meant nothing to him.
With the wager set, Jiang Chen once again took up the silver needle.
Prof. Hee observed with a mocking sneer.
Jiang Chen, this naive young man, seemed adept with the needle. Yet, his grasp of the acupoints and the force applied betrayed his lack of true mastery; he was clearly only half-trained.
Jiang Chen gazed at the old man's benevolent face, and memories of his laughter and voice flooded his mind.
Then, he steeled his resolve.
"Time... grant it to me!"
He whispered to himself, inaudible to others, and a mystical sensation enveloped everyone present.
Prof. Hee sniffed the air, detecting an ancient scent reminiscent of decades-old wooden furniture exposed to light after years of darkness.
But this was a hospital ward, which puzzled him greatly.
He was unaware that the source of this scent was none other than time itself!
Meanwhile, Jiang Chen's body shuddered.
In that instant, he felt as if his soul had been pulled from his body, and strands of white appeared amidst the black hair at the nape of his neck.
He also sensed a significant weakening of his own vitality.
Lin Zhenhai's data had been altered:
Name: Lin Zhenhai
Age: 57
Remaining Life Expectancy: 1 year 5 hours 34 minutes 26 seconds
Jiang Chen had sacrificed a year of his own life for Lin Zhenhai!
"Done!"
Jiang Chen stowed the remaining silver needles and spoke.
"Is that all?" Prof. Hee scoffed from nearby, watching with a look of anticipation for a spectacle, "Are you kidding me?"
"A clown craving attention!" Huang Kai seized the moment to insult him further, "If you can't deliver, don't make grand claims! Just leave!"
He shared Prof. Hee's conviction that Jiang Chen was nothing but a fraud.
When Jiang Chen remained silent, Huang Kai assumed it was due to a guilty conscience and was about to heap on more abuse when an elderly voice suddenly interrupted.
"Chen?"
Huang Kai paused, turning toward the voice.
To everyone's astonishment, it was Lin Zhenhai on the hospital bed, who had unexpectedly regained consciousness!
"This, this can't be!"
Prof. Hee and Huang Kai were agape, and Huang Wan and Lin Jingqiu were equally stunned.
Lin Zhenhai was breathing steadily, his complexion returning to a healthy glow.
Even more astonishing, upon examination, they found that Lin Zhenhai's vital organs had miraculously regained their vigor!
"What, what is this? How could you possibly..."
No one could fathom the extent of Prof. Hee's astonishment at that moment!
Jiang Chen's demonstration had utterly overturned the medical community's understanding in Huaxia!
Should this news get out, it would undoubtedly captivate the entire medical field!
"Do I really need to explain it to you?" Now it was Jiang Chen's turn to scoff.
Prof. Hee was taken aback, not expecting such a retort from Jiang Chen, and he was enraged.
Yet, he was also consumed by an infinite array of questions.
What was this phenomenon?
A miraculous recovery?
Life springing from withered wood?
What method had Jiang Chen employed?
In that instant, a multitude of doubts flooded his mind, rendering his decades of medical experience utterly ineffective.
