C1 Destructive Platform War
"Hey, why are you still here? Shouldn't you have left by now?" Su Hen said to Lee Kai, who had just stepped off the treadmill, earphones still in place. Su Hen was well-acquainted with Lee Kai, as he was one of the boss's top two players.
Su Hen wasn't the boss, though; he was another top player under the boss's command. His familiarity with Lee Kai stemmed from his desire to oust him; as long as Lee Kai was around, Su Hen knew he'd never catch the boss's eye, despite being one of the studio's best players himself.
Watching Lee Kai walk away without acknowledging him, Su Hen gave a self-deprecating chuckle before turning to the beautiful woman who had approached him. "Hey there, gorgeous, you've got some long legs. Interested in grabbing a casual dinner with me tonight?"
"Oh? Are you inviting me, my champion?" The woman said with a smile, lightly touching Su Hen's face. "Who was that guy who just left? He didn't even acknowledge our top warrior. Is he really that arrogant?"
"Lee Kai? Hehe, it's not surprising you don't know him. He's an oddball who prefers games over socializing. But despite his reticence, he's a big star— the only one in our studio who can hold a candle to me."
"The only one who can match you? The number one summoner in 'Holy War'?" Zheng Jie asked, her eyes wide with surprise as she looked at Su Hen.
"Exactly, it's him. Who else could afford to be so haughty in my presence?" Su Hen replied, grinning at Zheng Jie. "Beauty, I don't even know your name yet. How about we chat a bit, and then you can come check out my gaming setup in my room tonight?"
Zheng Jie chuckled at the man who was embracing her waist, then placed her hand on his. "Oh, I'm so sorry. You were my target before, but I just realized you're not quite as appealing as Lee Kai. My apologies, but I think I'd rather invite that handsome guy instead." With that, she gently pushed his hand away, ignoring Su Hen's sour expression, and sashayed off in the direction Lee Kai had gone.
...
"Kai, still giving me the silent treatment?" A muscular man lounged on a recliner, looking at Lee Kai's scowl as he entered. When Kai remained silent, the man sighed. "Kai, you should understand why I didn't let you choose the warrior class. 'Holy War' is the latest holographic game; it's practically a second world. With your social anxiety and the psychological scars from your past, opting for a warrior class in such an unrestricted game isn't the best choice for you."
"I just want to make myself stronger. I don't want to be as timid as I used to be. Plus, it's not like I haven't made choices in a game with complete freedom before," Lee Kai told the burly man.
"I know, and normally I wouldn't stand in your way, but this time Su Hen has joined us. You're aware of his capabilities. Unlike you, who can adeptly handle any class, he only plays as a warrior. So, we have to ask you to make a sacrifice," the burly man replied.
Lee Kai showed no particular emotion upon hearing this; he simply nodded and then turned to leave. The burly man watched his departing figure and exhaled softly before turning to address another man emerging from the bedroom.
"Is this really okay? You know the greater the suppression, the more explosive his future reaction could be."
"Don't worry, he'll come to understand eventually," the other muscular man responded.
...
Returning to his room, Lee Kai sat on his bed, his gaze fixed on the gaming cockpit before him.
Lee Kai, now twenty, had lived in a foster home since he had memories. At just twelve, he was taken in by a couple in their seventies. Tragically, when he was fourteen, both elders died within minutes of each other. Overwhelmed by witnessing the thug who killed them, he passed out from shock. Upon awakening, he found himself in a game studio, orphaned once again.
To survive, he worked for the studio while also honing his body and combat skills. In this era of advanced technology, various combat techniques could be downloaded and practiced from the internet, though most were not genuinely effective.
Because he had learned these so-called combat skills, he would always choose the warrior class, regardless of the game he played at the studio. He fought valiantly against both humans and monsters in the games, earning the title of Blood Warrior in the fully immersive holographic games.
Initially, he intended to select his class as usual following the beta release of "Holy War." However, his boss, whom he owed for past protection, approached him with a request. With Su Hen, his former rival for the top warrior spot, joining the studio, Lee Kai was asked not to pick the warrior class this time but to choose another. Wanting to repay his debt, Lee Kai reluctantly picked a class at random. A year after "Holy War" went live, he rose to fame as the world's premier summoner—the tempestuous summoner.
Sitting by the window, he sighed softly, removed his headphones, and made his way to his gaming cockpit. Barely two steps forward, the world before him shimmered into an illusion. He paused, puzzled. "What's going on? Am I seeing things?"
But a quick pinch to his thigh confirmed it wasn't a hallucination—it hurt.

Lee Kai missed the final reminder, as did many others, too preoccupied with the sudden influx of people around them, causing a sense of panic. He surveyed his surroundings, eyeing the diverse array of individuals that had appeared out of nowhere. A twinge of fear crept in. Though his body was well-conditioned and stronger than most, the main task hinted at an escape mission, suggesting that his strength would only grant him a slightly extended survival time, rather than a decisive advantage.
"Resident Evil? What's that? It sounds vaguely familiar," a woman in front of Lee Kai suddenly exclaimed. Lee Kai gave her a curious glance, recognizing something familiar in her voice. As he looked up, he realized who she was – the renowned actress Zhu Ying.
Zhu Ying scanned her surroundings, her gaze darting back and forth. It appeared that no one around her recognized her, which made her instinctively anxious. She had just been at home applying makeup, and now, in the blink of an eye, she found herself here, a situation that was understandably unsettling.
Lee Kai observed Zhu Ying, noting that she was around his age, but he felt no urge to mingle. Being somewhat introverted and not keen on conversation, he decided it was best not to offer help carelessly. He noticed a few unsavory characters moving towards Zhu Ying, so he casually hung his headphones around his neck and made his way to the outskirts of the crowd.
"There are no buildings in sight," Lee Kai noted as he reached the crowd's edge.
"So, if something goes awry, there's nowhere to take cover?" he pondered. Suddenly, he felt a bump from behind. Turning reflexively, he was taken aback. "What's going on? Wasn't she at the center of the crowd a moment ago? How did she end up on the fringe? And where are those guys who were harassing her?"
Zhu Ying had emerged from the crowd, leaving those troublemakers behind who had sorely underestimated her. Did they really think she was just a delicate vase? She was a Taekwondo black belt, after all. It was only because she hadn't fought in a while that her legs felt a bit wobbly after dispatching the hooligans, causing her to bump into Lee Kai's back as she exited the crowd.
Lee Kai took a brief look at her before turning his attention to a distant group of people who had appeared out of nowhere. He furrowed his brow, "Why are they walking so erratically? They don't seem normal." Connecting this to the mission he was given upon entering this world, a sense of urgency surged within him. Without a word, he turned and sprinted in the opposite direction.
At that moment, it became clear that his agility surpassed that of the average person. With nimble moves, he weaved past the obstructing crowd and swiftly made his way through the gaps, distancing himself from the area. Zhu Ying hadn't even had the chance to utter an apology when she caught sight of Lee Kai bounding past like a rabbit. She paused, momentarily taken aback, then her gaze shifted to the throng of people in the distance. A thought struck her, and instead of joining the others who were rushing towards the commotion, she turned on her heel and followed in Lee Kai's footsteps, moving away from the scene.
