C9 Chapter 9

Meeting his family

I try to get away, but it isn't easy. His arms are holding me close to him, and his mouth does not give up mine. Why does he have to kiss so well? Suddenly, I regain my sanity, and I manage to bite his lips, causing him to complain. Finally, he pulls away from me.

"But what are you doing ?!" Lucas exclaims as he complains of the pain, and I look at him thoughtfully.

"Who do you think you are to kiss me ?!" I reply angrily, and he grabs my arm.

Our gazes challenge each other. If they were bullets, we would probably be injured.

"I'm your husband, and I assure you that what happened here won't stay like this," he warns me.

His words send chills down my entire body. I'm not sure what to expect from him.

"Don't even think about touching me again because I'll forget about the whole agreement," I warn him.

"I like that you have personality," he says with a smile that I would like to erase. With his finger, he removes the blood that is left on his lip. "Now we will go outside to meet my parents; their names are Carlo and Laura," he murmurs as we approach the garden door.

"Okay, I hope they are better people than you," I reply angrily, and as I pass the garden gate, I fake my best smile.

We walk towards them, and as I get closer, I realize that their mother is a very classy woman. Her hair is dark and reaches above her shoulders, her eyes are brown, and she is pretty thin. On the other hand, his father has gray hair and the same eye color as Lucas; he is quite tall and slim in silhouette.

"Good afternoon, family" greets them kindly in English, which I appreciate, since my Italian is very limited. He returns to my side "this is Sienna; my wife," introduces me with a tone of pride that seems false to me.

They should give him an Oscar for such a good performance, although I am not far behind with mine. I smile broadly and move closer to them.

"Sienna! We can finally meet you!" says her mother in Spanish with that Italian accent that suits them so well. She stands up and hugs me. "Welcome home," she comments politely as I hug her.

"Thank you very much, ma'am," I reply as politely as I can

"Laura, call me Laura," she asks me, and I nod.

"Sienna, nice to meet you. Welcome to the family," adds his father and greets me warmly.

"The pleasure is mine, sir," I answer kindly, and he, like his wife, asks me to call him by his name.

"Have a seat," asks her mother. "I will ask Rita to bring coffee and a Caprese cake." Lucas, with his eyes, asks me to do what his mother suggests.

We sat next to each other in front of his parents. I turn around to admire the beautiful garden with exquisite landscaping work and a vast swimming pool.

"Laura, the garden is beautiful," I express, and she smiles proudly.

"It's my favorite place in the house," she replies. I don't understand how her parents can be so kind; instead, he is a self-centered and unbearable man.

"Your house in Miami must have an ocean view, right?" his father asks me.

"That's right, the house where I lived with my father is located in one of the bays of Miami, and we even have a dock," I explain. I feel like going back there.

"I imagine you miss it. However, the house where you and Lucas will live is also beautiful," he answers. Once again, I don't understand anything he is saying.

The house where I will live with Lucas? What are they talking about? I understood that we would only stay here for a week. I look at Lucas, trying to get an explanation, but he doesn't even look at me.

"Father, it was a surprise," he complains in a severe tone.

"Sienna still doesn't know the house?" he asks his son confused.

"No, father. I have had the house redecorated so that she likes it," Lucas explains, and I think that is a lie so that his parents do not realize the truth.

"I'm sorry, son," he apologizes, then turns to me. "Sienna, Lucas told us that in your father's company, you were the public relation, right?" he asks me while the coffee and the cake are served.

I try to keep my composure and not make a fuss right here.

"Yes, it's correct," I answer.

"My son told us a lot about you. He is very in love," he says, smiling. I turn to see Lucas realize that he has a massive smile on his face.

"Your son is a romantic," I affirm, trying not to sound sarcastic. "I am also very in love with him" I lie and insist that they should give me an Oscar for the way I cling to his arm and rest my head on his shoulder.

"You look great together," adds his mother. Afterward, we spent the afternoon telling the same story that Lucas told my father.

I listen to us, and I don't understand at what point my life has turned into this lie.

After talking about how we met and our beautiful wedding, Lucas tells them, "Mother, Father, if you'll excuse us, we are going to our room. We need to rest since the trip has been very long. See you at dinner."

"Son, today you will have dinner alone. Your mother and I have a foundation event," explains his father, and I can't believe what he says.

Have dinner alone? That doesn't sound good to me.

"Okay, father, then see you tomorrow," he replies.

He and I got up from the table and walked into the house. When we get far enough away from them, I fix my gaze on my husband.

"You knew this, didn't you?" I claim

Lucas, with a stupid smile that I want to erase with a slap, replies, "no, I didn't know."

He enjoys watching me suffer, and the idea of being alone with him does not please me at all.
