Buddhism teaches that all beings are inherently Buddhas, yet due to the veil of ignorance, they lose sight of their true nature and mistakenly identify with the body—a combination of earth, water, fire, and wind—as the self.

The notion of 'self' gives rise to the cycle of rebirth, to life and death!

Bound by the chains of karma
