C4 Is Lady Crazy?
Duan Rou stared at Jee Faang in astonishment. How much hidden strength did he possess? The characters he had effortlessly penned were imbued with such power!
The Spirit of the Tao was no mere trifle.
Her family treasured an ancestral landscape painting that contained the Spirit of the Tao.
That painting could be traded for half of the Kai Yuan Sect.
Such a valuable piece, and Jee Faang had simply taken it...
While Duan Rou's eyes brimmed with longing,
Who could have predicted that in the next moment, Jee Faang would crumple the paper into a ball and toss it into the wastebasket?
"Young... Young Master..."
Duan Rou watched, heartbroken and slightly dazed.
To treat such writing with such casual disregard!
She gingerly retrieved the crumpled piece from the wastebasket and carefully smoothed it out.
Jee Faang, somewhat sheepishly, offered, "I apologize, the calligraphy isn't up to par. I can write another one for you."
He had been dissatisfied with a particular stroke that lacked the necessary vigor.
Before he could elaborate, he caught sight of Duan Rou's eager expression.
"This one will do. I would like this one... May I have it?"
Jee Faang observed Duan Rou, who seemed somewhat flustered.
The more he watched, the more she appeared to be unaccustomed to such experiences.
But how could he possibly charge her for it?
"This money..."
Jee Faang began, finding himself in a quandary.
Duan Rou quickly caught on and handed over two gold ingots she got from her maid, leaving her jade pendant as well. "I am aware of the value of your work, Young Master, but I'm unsure if this suffices. If it's not enough, I can bring more."
Good heavens!
Jee Faang was taken aback. He hadn't expected the young lady to be so generous.
Noticing Jee Faang's reluctance to accept, Duan Rou's cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Her offerings seemed so insignificant in exchange for such a treasure. Yet, she was determined to secure this priceless object.
After a brief pause, she also presented a jade flute.
"This jade flute is a cherished possession of the Duan family, bearing our family crest. You are welcome to select anything from the Duan family's collection. If this still falls short..."
"Miss, how could you possibly give away this jade flute?" The maidservant at her side was taken aback.
Duan Rou gestured for the servant girl to be quiet and addressed Jee Faang, "I hope you won't look down on this gift. You must accept it!"
Duan Rou was filled with trepidation. She hadn't prepared extensively for the day's outing. If the esteemed one remained dissatisfied and refused to part with the calligraphy, she would surely harbor lifelong regrets.
Two gold ingots, a jade pendant, a jade flute...
It was quite a generous offering.
Jee Faang was puzzled. Was all this truly necessary for a piece of writing?
"Alright, this will suffice."
Upon hearing Jee Faang's acceptance, Duan Rou breathed a sigh of relief. Her excitement was overwhelming, to the point of feeling surreal.
"Thank you so much, Young Master!"
"If there's anything you need in the future, you're always welcome to reach out," Jee Faang offered.
Jee Faang welcomed the idea of future dealings with such a valued patron.
"Really?" Duan Rou's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"Of course."
This was fantastic! It meant more opportunities to engage with the revered ones in the future!
Duan Rou was practically bouncing with joy.
The maidservant was astounded by Duan Rou's reaction.
The young miss was exceedingly animated.
She had encountered the sect master, the Great Desolate Saint King, and even been received by the Third Elder of the Three Immortals Sect.
Yet, she had never seemed this thrilled before.
"The hour grows late, and I've imposed upon you for too long. Duan Rou bids you farewell."
With her heart still racing, Duan Rou composed herself. She was a discerning woman and knew that meeting Jee Faang today was the most fortuitous event of her life. Having established this connection, she didn't want to overstay her welcome.
Jee Faang escorted them to the door. Watching their figures disappear into the crowd, he smiled faintly and headed back inside the shop.
Even after walking a considerable distance from the shop, Duan Rou still felt as if she were walking on air.
It was an incredible stroke of luck that had led to such an extraordinary encounter.
"Miss, what's the matter with you? You've seemed a bit off ever since we left that shop," the maidservant asked with concern.
Duan Rou shook her head. "I'm fine. Let's head back."
A few steps later, Duan Rou paused, her tone grave. "We mustn't speak of what we encountered in the shop to anyone."
The maidservant blinked in surprise, then nodded. "I won't breathe a word of it. But miss, was there something peculiar about the people there?"
The maidservant couldn't help but be curious; the young lady had been acting rather oddly since they left the shop.
Duan Rou regarded the piece of calligraphy in her hands with great seriousness. "Today might just be the biggest opportunity of my life."
Watching Duan Rou, the maidservant couldn't help but scoff inwardly. It was just a cup of tea and a piece of calligraphy, wasn't it? And yet, she had handed over a fortune in gold, even parting with the Duan family's jade flute.
Could this really be called an opportunity? Was the calligraphy truly worth that much?
She sighed to herself, puzzled by her young lady's thoughts.
