C3 His Head Was Full of Scars!
"Xueqi, you're finally here! If you hadn't shown up, your mother would have been bullied to death!" Upon seeing her daughter, Wang Yulan let out a heart-wrenching cry, scrambling down from the hood of the car to drag her daughter over to Luo Yun.
Tang Xueqi's eyes narrowed at the sight of the vivid palm mark on her mother's face. "Who did this to you?" she demanded.
She was aware of her mother's clash with Luo Yun, but from what she knew of him, Luo Yun wouldn't dare lay a hand on her mother.
"Who else but that ungrateful wretch! I've always said that snake couldn't be tamed. You've dragged out the divorce for so long, and now he's bold enough to strike your mother. What's next, murder and arson? There's nothing he wouldn't dare do!" Wang Yulan cried out, voicing her profound sense of wrong.
Tang Xueqi's gaze finally settled on Luo Yun. He, too, was observing her, but the expected panic was nowhere to be seen.
Luo Yun's eyebrows arched in surprise. Could it really not be her?
Despite his composed exterior, Luo Yun was anything but calm. He stepped out of the luxury car, and before he could steady himself, Tang Xueqi's hand had struck his face. "This slap is on behalf of my mother. You have no right to hit your elders, no matter the circumstance," she said icily.
Luo Yun stood his ground, his cold stare fixed on Tang Xueqi. He was determined to find out if she was indeed responsible for the demise of his former self.
Tang Xueqi flinched under Luo Yun's intense scrutiny. This was not the half-witted man she remembered. Had he changed?
"Well done! Xueqi, he had the audacity to hit your mother; he deserves to have his legs broken and be thrown out of the Tang family!" Wang Yulan fumed, emboldened by her daughter's action and ready to strike Luo Yun herself.
He had been so aggressive before, but now that his daughter was here, he was still at the mercy of their wrath.
In his daughter's presence, he would always be worthless.
Luo Yun's head tilted, his piercing gaze now fixed on Wang Yulan. She shuddered, a wave of fear washing over her, and instinctively pulled back her hand. "You... you're not worth my effort..."
"You're right, Auntie. Someone of your stature shouldn't stoop to dealing with trash. Let me handle this trivial matter," said the man with the gold-rimmed glasses, who had been standing behind Tang Xueqi. Seizing his moment, he stepped forward and aimed a vicious kick at Luo Yun's knee, intent on forcing him to kneel before Wang Yulan.
A smirk played on Luo Yun's lips. If he had been concerned about maintaining a shred of dignity for Wang Yulan and Tang Xueqi, this man's actions were tantamount to digging his own grave. With a mere flick of his foot, he could confine the man to a wheelchair for life.
But Tang Xueqi was quicker, pulling the man back just as his foot was about to connect with Luo Yun. "Director Zhang, please refrain from intervening. This is a matter between my husband and me."
Director Zhang grasped Tang Xueqi's arm, a hint of eagerness in his eyes. "Why do you still call me Director Zhang? We're practically family now. Your concerns are my concerns..."
"Exactly, family! Only a standout guy like Mr. Zhang is fit to be my Wang Yulan's son-in-law! Not like this fool, who had the nerve to strike his mother-in-law over some dead old man!"
"I'm not divorced yet!"
Tang Xueqi's voice rose, tinged with clear anger.
Luo Yun's interest peaked. If his predecessor's memories served him right, it was this very woman who had broached the topic of divorce just three days prior.
So why the act of playing the good person now?
"What's your decision?" Tang Xueqi pressed, her voice icy.
"Decision about what?"
"The divorce, obviously," Tang Xueqi replied, barely containing her impatience.
Luo Yun let out a derisive laugh, feeling indignant for his former self. "You want a divorce so you can frolic with this man?"
Tang Xueqi's frown deepened as she caught Luo Yun's sarcasm. Her gaze, sharp and resolute, swept over him, noting the stark change in his demeanor.
He really didn't seem foolish anymore!
The realization prompted a self-mocking laugh from Tang Xueqi. Despite everything, was she still holding out hope?
Whether Luo Yun was foolish or not, the divorce was non-negotiable.
"Yes, I've had enough. Your consent is irrelevant; this marriage is over! I intend to marry Director Zhang."
"Do you love him?" Luo Yun scoffed, curious to see the depths of her shamelessness.
"I do!"
The man with the gold-rimmed glasses, elated by her affirmation, quickly sidled up to Tang Xueqi, wrapping an arm around her slender waist. "See? Xueqi's heart is with me. Your clinging is pointless. Don't be a nuisance..."
"Ever heard of public decency?" Luo Yun's eyebrow arched as he eyed the unwelcome hand on Tang Xueqi's waist.
"And what exactly do you love about him? His promiscuity? Or his head full of sores?"
His words electrified the crowd—this was juicy gossip!
Could it be that such a well-groomed man was hiding a scalp full of sores beneath his thick hair?
The crowd's curiosity about others' secrets, especially those of a well-dressed scoundrel, was insatiable.
Feeling the crowd's judgmental stares, the man in glasses lost his composure. Seizing Luo Yun by the collar, he spat out, "You worthless piece of trash! What kind of lies are you spewing? Accuse me of such things again, and I'll beat you senseless!"
"Are you claiming my words are false?" Luo Yun challenged with a sneer.
Had it not been for Tang Xueqi, he wouldn't have given this man a second glance. He wasn't even worth stepping on.
"Rubbish! It's all lies. Anyone here can see I don't have sores on my head, unless they're blind! And my heart belongs to Xueqi alone. What makes you think I've been unfaithful?"
"Don't kid yourself into believing your persistence will change anything. Xueqi's marriage is a done deal! She's mine from this day forward!"
With a boldness that claimed ownership, the man in glasses pulled Tang Xueqi close and planted a kiss on her flushed lips, right there for all to see.
Tang Xueqi's face was stricken with horror as she tried to back away.
But in her high heels, she couldn't possibly move as swiftly as the man with glasses. As a gaping mouth loomed closer, she uttered a soft cry and instinctively cast a pleading glance at Luo Yun for rescue.
Without a moment's hesitation, Luo Yun's instincts kicked in. His arm snaked around Tang Xueqi, drawing her into the safety of his embrace!
It was a lingering obsession from his past life!
He was gone, yet the impulse to protect her remained!
With swift precision, Luo Yun pulled Tang Xueqi to his side, his hand simultaneously flicking at the bespectacled man's scalp.
A wig, deceptively realistic, floated gently to the ground.
