C14 He Was Envious
"Alright, you'll be driving later. We'll head out in half an hour. Remember, don't keep Director Su waiting," Zhang Yun instructed.
"Understood," Huang Feng acknowledged with a nod.
Once Zhang Yun had departed, the security office erupted into a buzz of excitement.
"Man, you've got some serious beginner's luck—only here two days and you're already heading out on a task with the boss."
"Exactly, and we're talking about Director Su here—one of the most stunning women in our company."
"You're making us all green with envy."
A crowd gathered around Huang Feng, voicing their envy. They all wished for such an opportunity, but now the newcomer had snagged it, and they couldn't really complain.
"Uh, since I'm new here, I'm not too familiar with the company. Who is this Director Su that you all seem to know?" Huang Feng asked, his curiosity piqued. He genuinely didn't know who Director Su was.
"You don't know Director Su?" someone asked, puzzled, but then quickly realized, "Of course, you just started yesterday, so you wouldn't know her. But give it some time, and there's no one in the company who doesn't recognize Director Su."
So, the person began to fill Huang Feng in: Director Su's full name is Su Yumo, and she's the Vice General Manager of the company. She's essentially the second in command. Heaven's Pride Group was co-founded by her and the company's Chairman and General Manager, Xie Mengjiao. Rumor has it the two have been inseparable best friends since childhood. After graduating, they launched Heaven's Pride Group together.
When it comes to these two, their beauty is legendary. Heaven's Pride Group, being rich in female talent, has no shortage of attractive women—a fact Huang Feng had already noticed. But according to the guards, Xie Mengjiao and Su Yumo's beauty surpasses them all. They're both ethereal in their looks, though they differ in personality. The guard who previously held Huang Feng's position was let go for being too bold with his gaze upon Xie Mengjiao. This not only speaks to Xie Mengjiao's striking appearance but also to her character.
And it was precisely for this reason that everyone was eyeing Huang Feng's assignment with such envy. Su Yumo was not only a high-ranking executive but also a beauty. Who wouldn't want to make a lasting impression on her?
"Huang, this is a golden opportunity for you. Seize it and show them what you've got," Brother Wang said, clapping Huang Feng on the shoulder with encouragement.
With a wry smile, Huang Feng replied, "Brother Wang, I'm just a security guard. Now I'm supposed to be a driver and do some heavy lifting on the side. How am I supposed to stand out? Even if I do a good job, I'll still be stuck as a security guard."
"Don't be so sure about that," Brother Wang countered. "Director Su is quite the catch, and she's single. All the guys at the company are trying to figure out how to win her over. If you impress her, who knows..."
"Who knows what? I'm just a security guard. What could possibly happen?"
"Well, you're right. But even if nothing extraordinary happens, a strong performance could lead to a pay raise or even a promotion. Imagine moving up to the office, trading in your security badge for a white-collar job. No more standing guard at the door," Brother Wang mused.
"Let's just stick to the facts, Brother Wang. I'll keep to my post at the door. I'm clueless about all that other stuff. And anyway, this is just a straightforward task, not nearly as complex as you're making it out to be," Huang Feng said, still smiling bitterly. To him, it was just another day, another routine job.
Huang Feng's perspective gave everyone pause. Indeed, a simple outing like this was unlikely to change anything. They had accompanied other staff and executives before without any tales of promotions or role changes. If the company needed more hands, they could easily recruit. There was no need to pull from their ranks of security guards. Yet, the fact that Huang Feng was accompanying Su Yumo this time stirred a bit of excitement among them.
Once the group had collected themselves, Huang Feng asked, "By the way, Brother Wang, what's the position of that woman from earlier? You seem to be acquainted with her."
What Huang Feng didn't voice was the observation that they all seemed quite eager to curry favor with her. Not only had she initiated conversation, but everyone else was all smiles in her presence.
"Oh, you mean Manager Zhang? She's in charge of the Human Resources Department, overseeing staff attendance and benefits," Brother Wang explained.
Now it all made sense to Huang Feng. This was about their livelihood; it was no wonder they were all so keen to make a good impression.
"Alright, get moving. Drive the car out and be ready to wait. You don't want Director Su to beat you there, or you'll be in hot water," Brother Wang urged, giving Huang Feng a nudge.
"Got it, I'm on it," Huang Feng replied.
Huang Feng then headed to the garage to fetch Director Su's car, keys already in hand courtesy of Zhang Yun. He parked the car at the company's entrance and settled in to wait.
Truth be told, Huang Feng felt a twinge of nervousness. He was well aware of Su Yumo's stature within the company, thanks to the chatter among his colleagues. Being new to the company and already accompanying a top executive was daunting. Success would be unremarkable, but failure could mean losing his job. Plus, he wasn't familiar with Su Yumo's temperament.
Driving was another concern. Although Huang Feng was competent behind the wheel, he lacked practice. His driving experience was limited to the lessons he took in college, and without the means to own a car post-graduation, his skills were rusty at best.
"I should've admitted I can't drive," Huang Feng lamented internally. He regretted taking on this task; there was no reward for doing well, but a poor performance could tarnish his reputation with the leadership, putting his job at risk. Clearly, the risk outweighed the reward.
But regret was futile now. It was too late for second thoughts, and he had no choice but to face the music.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
Startled from his reverie by the tapping on the glass, Huang Feng quickly turned to see someone standing outside—a strikingly beautiful woman.
She had eyes like pools of autumn water, framed by lashes that fluttered enticingly. Her delicate features were lightly dusted with makeup, enhancing the natural flush of her cheeks. Her pert nose and slightly upturned lips were the epitome of beauty.
Huang Feng was captivated, his gaze unwilling to stray. He had seen his fair share of beauties in college, but none compared to her. Even after starting work and meeting numerous women, none held a candle to the allure of this woman standing before him.
However, it seemed that the beauty's mood was less than stellar, given the furrowed brow she wore while gazing at Huang Feng inside the car.
