C15 He Lost His Composure

Upon noticing the displeased look on the face of the beautiful woman outside, Huang Feng quickly realized she must be the one he was waiting for.

He hurriedly opened the car door and ventured, "Director Su?"

"Correct, that's me," Su Yumo replied with a composed demeanor. Then, taken aback, she looked at Huang Feng and exclaimed, "Is that you?!"

"Yes, it's me. Manager Zhang sent me to assist Director Su with driving and running errands," Huang Feng responded, misunderstanding Su Yumo's surprise as her questioning whether he was the driver.

"Zhang Yun? I see. Well, hop in," Su Yumo said, deep in thought.

Huang Feng had contemplated whether to open the car door for Su Yumo, but to his surprise, she opened it herself and took the front passenger seat.

Huang Feng found it odd—didn't executives usually sit in the back? But he didn't voice his question; instead, he simply got in and started the car.

Silence filled the car; neither spoke. Huang Feng drove with caution, stealing glances at Su Yumo, who sat resting with her eyes closed. Despite looking weary, her allure was undiminished. Among a company of beauties, she stood out as one of the two most stunning women, a testament to her undeniable charm.

"Drive carefully. If you keep this up, there could be an accident," Su Yumo suddenly said, still with her eyes closed, seemingly exhausted.

Her voice jolted Huang Feng. He chided himself for his lack of self-control, fixated on her as he had been. But then, Su Yumo's beauty was captivating; it would be unnatural not to be drawn to her. To remain indifferent would be unmanly.

Nevertheless, Huang Feng quickly averted his gaze, focusing on the road. Given his mediocre driving skills, distraction could indeed lead to disaster.

"How long have you been with the company?" Su Yumo inquired once more.

"Just two days. I started yesterday," Huang Feng replied, keeping his eyes firmly on the road.

"Two days? That explains why I hadn't seen you around," Su Yumo remarked. "What did you do before? Were you an athlete?"

"An athlete? No, I've had my fair share of jobs, but I've never been an athlete," Huang Feng clarified. Then, with a hint of boldness, he inquired, "Why would Director Su think that?"

Su Yumo finally opened her eyes, giving Huang Feng a look of mild astonishment. She hadn't anticipated his counter-question, but she wasn't inclined to keep secrets. "I witnessed you catching a thief this morning," she revealed.

It clicked for Huang Feng. His speed had indeed surpassed that of an average athlete, making Su Yumo's assumption less surprising.

"Your speed was impressive. Have you had any training?" Su Yumo, evidently intrigued, pressed on.

"Not formally trained," Huang Feng replied. "I just enjoy running as part of my routine exercise." He certainly wasn't about to divulge that his speed was thanks to a pair of enchanted shoes.

Su Yumo nodded, not prying any further, but then posed another question, "You're in college?"

"Yeah, but it's not a top-tier institution," Huang Feng admitted.

"So what made you decide to become a security guard? There are plenty of college graduates these days, and jobs are hard to come by, but not many choose this path," Su Yumo observed.

"The company offers good benefits," Huang Feng explained candidly. "I've been with a few small firms where the workload was heavy, the pay was meager, and benefits were nonexistent."

"Still, there's not much of a future in security," Su Yumo pointed out. "Are you content with this job? Have you considered moving to other departments within the company?"

Her words sent a jolt through Huang Feng. Could the playful predictions of Brother Wang and the others actually come to pass? Was Su Yumo seriously considering moving him to a different department?

But Huang Feng quickly dismissed the fanciful notion. He hardly knew Su Yumo; why would she go out of her way for him? And even if he did switch departments, what could he possibly contribute without any relevant skills?

Despite these doubts, the idea had crossed his mind. Huang Feng didn't want to be a security guard forever, especially not after acquiring that extraordinary storage box. His ambitions had shifted, but he knew now wasn't the time to act on them.

"I've definitely considered it, but I'm well aware of my limitations. If I were to transfer to another department now, I wouldn't know the first thing about what to do," Huang Feng admitted.

Su Yumo listened to Huang Feng's confession without objection, closed her eyes once more to rest, and tranquility settled over the car again.

"We're here, Director Su," Huang Feng announced upon arrival. Noticing Su Yumo's lack of response, he gently prompted her.

"Hmm?" Su Yumo let out a soft grunt, seemingly groggy from sleep. She pouted and rubbed her eyes in a childlike manner, clearly annoyed at being roused.

But her irritation was short-lived as she suddenly became aware of her surroundings. This wasn't her home or office; she was in a car, and more critically, there was a man present. The realization washed over her, bringing a wave of embarrassment. She inwardly chastised herself for her carelessness, for dozing off in a car, in front of a stranger, and especially a man she didn't know well. She fretted over whether she had drooled or talked in her sleep, which would have been mortifying.

Huang Feng, meanwhile, found himself captivated once again by Su Yumo's demeanor. Her inherent charm was undeniable, and her drowsy, pouty expression upon waking was a stark contrast to her usual poised and efficient self, making her all the more alluring.

Noticing Huang Feng's lingering stare, a blush crept across Su Yumo's cheeks. She then lifted her head and shot him a withering glare.

That look snapped Huang Feng back to reality. He awkwardly turned away and stepped out of the car. Su Yumo took a moment to compose herself before exiting the vehicle. She walked ahead as if the incident had never occurred, though her face betrayed a hint of discomfort whenever she glanced at Huang Feng, but she made no further comment.

Huang Feng should count himself fortunate that it was Su Yumo he had been caught staring at today and not Xie Mengjiao. Otherwise, he might have found himself out of a job. The last time a security guard had ogled Xie Mengjiao, it hadn't been nearly as blatant as Huang Feng's gaze on Su Yumo today. He'd been caught red-handed several times, but thankfully, Su Yumo's temperament wasn't as unforgiving as Xie Mengjiao's, allowing him to keep his position.
