C19 He Thought about It
The golden silk soft armor truly is a remarkable item. In the world of "The Deer and the Cauldron," this treasure could withstand a dagger that slices through iron as if it were mud, so an ordinary dagger wouldn't stand a chance.
"Are you really okay?" Su Yumo asked again, her concern evident.
"Director Su, I'm absolutely fine," Huang Feng reassured her once more.
Su Yumo finally nodded, coming to terms with the surprising reality.
But her brow furrowed almost immediately. She turned to Director Bao and said, "Those people were outrageously bold, even pulling a knife. You need to get in touch with the local police station about them. I'm confident they can be taken care of this time. And what about the security guards? Are they just for show? I'm paying for them to be here, not to just stand around."
Su Yumo had every right to be upset. Director Bao had secretly called in the security guards, but when they arrived and saw the criminals fleeing, not one pursued. They simply watched them escape, seemingly too wary to engage. Clearly, this was unsatisfactory to Su Yumo.
Director Bao could only offer a wry smile upon hearing Su Yumo's comments. He was well aware of the security guards' capabilities; they were fine for standing watch and patrolling, but confronting actual troublemakers was another story. These guards were dispatched by the company, not his own hires, so his hands were tied.
Su Yumo, aware of the situation, didn't press the issue with Director Bao. However, she was beginning to feel displeased with Manager Liu from the Security Department.
"Let's head out. I'll leave this in your hands. I doubt they'll be back soon, but you should still beef up patrols, especially during commute times, to ensure our employees' safety," Su Yumo instructed.
"Understood, Director Su," Director Bao responded.
Su Yumo and Huang Feng then loaded the cosmetics into the car and set off, with Huang Feng behind the wheel and Su Yumo in the passenger seat.
"Thank you for stepping in earlier," Su Yumo said to Huang Feng during the drive. Without his intervention, even with the factory security present, she might have been at a disadvantage. In this instance, Huang Feng had truly come to her aid.
"Director Su, you're too kind. As the company's security guard, it's simply part of my job," Huang Feng remarked while driving.
"Indeed, Manager Liu has a good eye this time," Su Yumo observed, her tone making it clear that she was quite pleased with Huang Feng, though she harbored significant dissatisfaction with the factory's security team.
Huang Feng kept his thoughts to himself. He could sense Su Yumo's discontent with Manager Liu, but since Liu was his boss, it wouldn't be right to badmouth him.
His mind, however, was preoccupied with thoughts of the storage box. If it weren't for his discovery of the golden silk soft armor yesterday, and his decision to wear it out of curiosity today, he would have been seriously injured, if not worse. That armor had been his salvation.
The storage box had proven to be incredibly valuable. The two items he'd retrieved so far had been of great assistance—one aiding in the capture of a thief and earning him recognition from future leadership, and the other saving his life. The benefits of the storage box were gradually becoming apparent.
"It's unfortunate that I can't choose the treasures I receive," Huang Feng mused with a hint of regret. The box dispensed its treasures randomly, leaving him no choice in the matter. If he could choose, he'd opt for some legendary martial arts from films and television, ensuring that today's thugs wouldn't have stood a chance against him, let alone injured him.
"I definitely need something to boost my offensive capabilities," he contemplated. The golden silk soft armor was purely defensive, covering only his upper body. He'd be vulnerable if attacked below the waist.
Huang Feng was aware that his fighting skills were only marginally better than an average person's. Against someone with a bit more strength, he might not hold his own, especially since he hadn't undergone any formal training.
With this in mind, he turned his thoughts back to the storage box. Although the items it produced were random, they weren't without a pattern. The items he'd received bore some resemblance to what he'd put inside—shoes for shoes, clothes for clothes—though their functions had changed dramatically.
If Huang Feng wanted to enhance his abilities, he knew from all the TV shows and movies he'd seen that he'd need either martial arts secret scriptures, pills, or perhaps some special equipment. To acquire such items, he'd have to focus his efforts in those areas.
"I guess I really need to go on a major shopping spree after work this afternoon," Huang Feng mused. He had already considered this yesterday, but now it felt more pressing than ever.
"Huang Feng, Huang Feng, are you listening to me?" Su Yumo's voice suddenly broke through his thoughts, startling him. He had been so wrapped up in his own plans that he hadn't been paying attention to her.
"Director Su, I apologize. I was just... lost in thought," Huang Feng stammered, feeling a bit sheepish. It wasn't good to be caught daydreaming when his boss was speaking to him. A stricter boss might have made a big issue out of it.
Luckily, Su Yumo wasn't that type of boss. She wasn't upset with Huang Feng. However, had it been another executive from Heaven's Pride Group, Huang Feng might not have been so fortunate.
"It's okay. What I was saying is, after you drop me off at the office, you can head home early. We're close to the end of the workday anyway. You didn't get hurt earlier, but it's still best to take some time to rest," Su Yumo instructed.
"Sure, thank you, Director Su," Huang Feng replied, gratefully accepting the offer. He had already planned to do some shopping, so leaving work early suited him just fine.
After delivering Su Yumo to the office and parking the car, Huang Feng handed in the keys and left the company ahead of schedule. Zhang Yun did inquire about the recent events when he turned in the keys, but following Su Yumo's directive, Huang Feng didn't divulge anything about the altercation that had taken place near the factory. Su Yumo preferred to keep such matters from unsettling the staff.
