C2 Celestial Roar Continent

The moon soared high, casting its silvery glow as stars twinkled ceaselessly across the night sky.

Ling Yunfan reclined against a towering tree on the grassy shore of a tranquil lake, its surface a smooth expanse reflecting a soft, pale blue sheen. With a leaf held to his lips by one hand, he gently coaxed out a melody tinged with sorrow.

Time slipped by unnoticed until Ling Yunfan ceased his plaintive tune. Observing the tree he rested upon shed its withered yellow leaves to the earth, a wave of melancholy washed over him.

"Ah, seven years have passed," he mused, lying against the tree, his hands cradling his head like a pillow. "Once hailed as an unparalleled prodigy, now reduced to nothing—a cruel twist of fate." His voice was laced with self-mockery as he reflected on the afternoon's Cultivation Talent assessment.

With his eyes closed, Ling Yunfan's thoughts drifted to his childhood, when his father, Ling Tianba, would share tales of their homeland, the Celestial Roar Continent, and other matters. Though his father had been forthcoming with many secrets, he never revealed that Ling Yunfan was not his true-born son—a fact Ling Yunfan had long since discovered on his own.

On the Celestial Roar Continent, nearly everyone shared a singular ambition: to become a martial cultivator. Such cultivators harnessed the Cosmic Spiritual Energy and unique techniques native to the land, transforming themselves into beings of extraordinary power.

The martial path had been meticulously honed by generations of dedication, making the pursuit of martial cultivation an essential endeavor for all. Cultivators progressed through ranks, beginning at the lowest, the Body Refining Stage, and advancing through Body Refining Level Nine, until breaking through to higher realms: the Essence Gathering Stage, the Profound Cultivator, the Spirit Martial Stage, and finally, the Martial King Stage. Each major realm was further stratified into nine subsidiary levels.

As cultivators ascended, they could draw upon Cosmic Spiritual Force with the aid of their techniques, aiding the transformation of their dantian into a Qi Sea. This pivotal breakthrough would usher them into the true commencement of their martial journey—the Essence Gathering Stage.

Within the Essence Gathering Stage, each breakthrough in the Qi Sea manifests a cyclone shimmering like starlight, signifying the cultivator's progress within this realm. Possessing nine such cyclones indicates attainment of the Essence Gathering Level Nine.

A Martial Cultivator, upon advancing through a major realm, experiences a profound renewal of their body. Any injuries are instantly healed with the breakthrough, and both lifespan and strength see significant increases. For instance, a Body Refining Stage cultivator with a lifespan of two hundred years would, upon reaching the Essence Gathering Stage, extend their lifespan to five hundred years. Each subsequent minor realm breakthrough adds fifty years to their life.

The growth in strength parallels that of lifespan. Starting from the Body Tempering Realm, a Martial Cultivator gains an additional 500 kilograms of strength with each minor realm ascended.

Beyond harnessing Cosmic Spiritual Energy, a martial artist's cultivation relies on specific techniques, which are categorized into four ranks: Human, Profound, Earth, and Heaven, each with three sub-ranks indicating their potency.

Despite the innumerable cultivation techniques developed over generations, typical martial arts families possess at most Profound Rank techniques. Those circulated publicly are merely of Human Rank. To access higher-level techniques, one must either join a Sect Force or, if fortune allows, discover them within the ancient tombs and cave dwellings of past masters.

In combat, Martial Cultivators require more than just cultivation techniques and levels; they need martial skills of a caliber comparable to their techniques. These skills are categorized similarly to cultivation techniques but are more combat-oriented, whereas cultivation techniques focus on advancing one's cultivation level.

Ideally, one should train in martial skills that align with their cultivation technique's attribute, enhancing the skill's power through this synergy.

Not only Human Martial Cultivators can train in these skills; demonic beasts dwelling in remote mountains can cultivate as well. Though their methods are akin to humans, they possess unique techniques. While they cannot learn skills from other demonic beasts, they can master those crafted by humans. Moreover, at equivalent levels, demonic beasts boast greater strength than their human counterparts.

Gurgle... Gurgle...

Ling Yunfan patted his belly, which was emitting a series of odd noises, and a sheepish grin spread across his face. Gazing at the barren lake before him, he mused aloud, "I may be eager to dive into cultivation, but I've got to satiate this hunger first. Without a full stomach, I can't accomplish much of anything."

Typically, martial cultivators like him didn't rely heavily on food for sustenance. As their cultivation levels ascended, their mortal forms began to evolve. Those who had reached at least Body Refining Level Five could go without food for seven days, and the more advanced practitioners could survive even longer without sustenance, maintaining their vigor solely on spiritual energy. Once a warrior could harness Cosmic Spiritual Energy and convert it into spiritual force within their body, they would experience a significant boost in vitality and other areas.

However, longevity wasn't solely sustained by spiritual force. True extension of life came with breaking through to higher realms of cultivation or by consuming special elixirs and spirit medicines that could prolong one's lifespan.

After a brief soliloquy, Ling Yunfan turned on his heel to seek out some nourishment.

"Back already, Fann?" As he settled into an elegantly appointed hall, Ling Yunfan had barely taken his seat when a middle-aged man in a sumptuous brown robe entered. The man's smile was warm as he regarded Ling Yunfan.

The man had an unassuming appearance, but his robe lent him an air of affluence. Despite the signs of age on his face, his thick eyebrows and stern eyes imbued him with an imposing presence. This was none other than the head of the Ling family, Ling Tianba, a Profound Cultivator of the Mystic Fifth Level.

"Yes, I'm famished. I thought I'd grab a bite before resuming my training," Ling Yunfan responded, his face lighting up at the sight of his father's affectionate expression.

Within the Ling family, it was only with his father, Ling Tianba, and his beloved cousin, Ling Hong, that Ling Yunfan would engage in the warm, familial banter that relatives share. In contrast, conversations with others left Ling Yunfan seeming distant and unapproachable, as if encased in ice, impenetrable to the heart—whether they were his peers or blood kin.

"Really? There's some food left for you in the kitchen that I've prepared with medicinal herbs. It's all been infused with spiritual ingredients to aid your cultivation. Keep up the good work!" Ling Tianba watched Ling Yunfan, whose dedication to cultivation surpassed anyone else's, with a mix of pride and concern. As a father, he was tempted to urge his son not to push himself too hard, but in the end, he chose to offer encouragement instead.

He placed two stalks of Azure Essence Grass on the table before heading out, his figure betraying a hint of worry.

"Father, I appreciate your support. I'll work tirelessly to meet your expectations. I'm confident that someday I'll not only return to my former peak but exceed it!" Ling Yunfan watched his father leave, a determined glint in his eyes. Clenching his fists, he silently vowed to himself before heading back into the house.

Bolstered by Ling Tianba's words, Ling Yunfan quickly polished off his meal and stepped outside.

"The two stalks of Human Rank Azure Essence Grass my father gave me should be incredibly beneficial. If I take them before my next training session, I'm sure the results will be even more impressive." With that, Ling Yunfan pulled out the two stalks of Azure Essence Grass from his pocket. They were vibrant and fresh, about the length of his middle finger, with three triangular, crimson-tinged leaves.

These stalks of Azure Essence Grass were potent spiritual medicines, capable of significantly accelerating a martial artist's cultivation speed.
