C7 Baobao Memorized It!
Ye Rong quickly caught up with them. He wasn't the type to be obstinate, nor was he inclined to pick a fight just because he was well-fed and energized. There are countless ways to channel one's strength and just as many to release pent-up frustration.
Take, for instance, his current situation. With his newfound vigor, he could go another two days without food. Sure, he'd feel hungry, but it wouldn't be the overwhelming hunger he experienced upon waking up last time. Or consider the satisfaction he felt watching those guys glare at him with clenched fists, unable to lay a finger on him.
Having spent many years in the Cultivation World, Ye Rong had become adept at one particular skill: helping others see things from a different angle. He had just eaten and was brimming with energy. Observing the clenched fists and sturdy frames of these men, he surmised they probably didn't skimp on meals either. Maybe they, too, were eager to exert their strength. After all, frustration is common among those whose cultivation falls short of their aspirations.
With that in mind, he thought, "I get where you're coming from. Let's all drop the hostility. After all, seeing you unable to take your anger out on me dissipates my own." He wondered what they thought of him. If they couldn't find relief in his presence, then they were simply not looking at the situation from a different perspective. Their thinking needed to evolve.
Watching Ye Rong and Lin Baobao cross the street, looking quite pleased with themselves, one of the blockers couldn't hold back any longer. "Are we just going to let him walk away like that? Lin Baobao doesn't seem to care much for him. Didn't she just admit she didn't even know he was attending school here?"
With a sharp "Pah!" a slap landed on the back of his head. "What do you understand, Zhang Hu? They're just flirting! At the very least, he's a kept lover! Just imagine, what would your fate be if you hugged and kissed Lin Baobao?"
Zhang Hu fell silent, his fantasies devoid of any romantic hues, replaced by a chill that made his legs quake.
Lin Baobao was more than just the campus belle; she was the treasured gem of the Lin Group and bore the nickname of 'little devil.' Those who pursued her, if they were lucky, would only have their flowers tossed into the trash or shredded to bits. The more persistent suitors faced her mischievous pranks: water dumped on their heads, cars vandalized with writing, and tires sabotaged with nails. These were the milder repercussions of their folly.
If she gets any angrier, remember she has two brothers.
One is skilled with knives, and the other with guns.
Which do you think hurts more when you're talking about ending a family line: a knife cut or a gunshot?
Zhang Hu certainly didn't want to entertain that question.
"Let's go! We need to report to Mr. Han, pronto!" The group hurried toward the school.
But they were just a street away from Diaton University. Even if they notified Mr. Han now, they wouldn't make it in time to catch Ye Rong and Lin Baobao entering the campus.
By the time they reached the school gates, they realized their effort was in vain. There was no need to alert Mr. Han anymore because... Mr. Han had already encountered Ye Rong and Lin Baobao.
"You're tracking me this time, aren't you?" Lin Baobao confronted Ye Rong.
"I'm here to clear up this misunderstanding. Those weren't my people."
"Hmph!" Lin Baobao turned away. "Why should I believe you? How can you prove it?"
Han Xiaotian arrived to find Ye Rong and Lin Baobao in the midst of this exchange, looking utterly bewildered.
Lin Baobao? Ye Rong? What in the world was happening?
The person who had just knocked Zhang Hu on the head quickly made his way to Han Xiaotian's side, standing there cautiously.
"What's the situation? Why didn't you stop this guy?" Han Xiaotian demanded.
"He... It seems he's romantically involved with Lin Baobao. With her present, we couldn't intervene."
"What?" Han Xiaotian was shocked. How could this be?
But reflecting on the scene he had just witnessed, it was unmistakably like a couple in the throes of a jealous spat. And it was Lin Baobao who was jealous—could Ye Rong be involved with someone else?
"To have a girlfriend like Lin Baobao and still look elsewhere?" Han Xiaotian was incredulous. Even he would reconsider his relationships with other women if he were dating the jewel of the Lin family, a woman admired for her beauty and prestigious background.
What gave this country boy the right? What was he capable of?
A sense of foreboding settled in Han Xiaotian's chest.
He remembered the night Chen Ling had defended Ye Rong. Chen Ling was kind-hearted, not the type to seek attention. She seldom took such a stand. But even the kindest souls have their moments, and since Ye Rong had been beaten up because of Chen Ling, Han Xiaotian hadn't thought much of it at the time. Now, he wondered if there was more to the story.
Han Xiaotian clenched his fists. He had pursued both Lin Baobao and Chen Ling in the past, to no avail. Yet now, both women seemed to have some connection with a scrawny country lad who had even dared to hurl a stone at his head!
Glancing at the woman by Ye Rong's side and then at his own companion, Han Xiaotian felt a chill in his heart. Biting down hard, he thought, Ye Rong, today I see you in a new light!
"Let's go!"
Han Xiaotian turned on his heel. This grudge wasn't about not seeking revenge, but about not seeking it hastily!
Ye Rong stood with his arms crossed. "The innocent will prove their innocence," he mused, recalling the phrase from Ye Rong's memories and finding it fitting.
The innocent will naturally have evidence to prove their innocence. Wasn't the woman who had been with Han Xiaotian just one of the blockers? Would such a clever creature as a woman not take notice?
"Making excuses," Lin Baobao huffed. She hadn't seen any sign of innocence in this young man. His approach was indeed enigmatic, reeking of a driver's guile. He must have anticipated needing to explain himself for following her. To her, the phrase 'The innocent will prove their innocence' was as good as no explanation at all. It was the first time she had encountered someone so brazenly confident in not offering one.
But this would be the first and last time!
Lin Baobao was not about to give him another opportunity!
"It doesn't matter. It's impossible between us. I've met your conditions. If I catch you trailing me again, hmph, don't expect me to be polite!" Lin Baobao gritted her teeth. Knowing her own reputation, how could she not recognize her own style?
Impossible? Impossible what? Ye Rong found the statement somewhat perplexing, but he grasped the underlying message and nodded. He wasn't keen on further entanglements with a woman.
"However, I do have a question," Ye Rong said, breaking the silence. This question had puzzled him for quite some time, and no matter how he pondered it, he couldn't find an answer.
"What's your question?" Lin Baobao asked, eyeing Ye Rong. She had one final question of her own—how had her neck healed? If he asked, she would be entitled to inquire about his issue on the same grounds.
"Why do you always like to call yourself Baobao? You've clearly grown up. No matter how you look at it…" Ye Rong gestured a curve in the air with his hand. "Ah! Could it be?!"
Lin Baobao's expression shifted abruptly.
With a swift motion, she slung her bag over her shoulder, spun around, and declared loudly, "Because my name is Lin Baobao!"
Did this guy really not know her name was Lin Baobao?
The nerve of him, mocking my chest size?
I, Baobao, will not forget this insult!
"Ye Rong from the History Department." He introduced himself with due respect, giving his full name. He had no intention of being indebted to a woman.
But why did it seem like her reaction was a bit over the top? Was it some kind of faux pas here to suggest someone looks younger than their age?
