C4 I Am Ye Fann
"Ye Fann, what on earth are you doing?" Wang Ying bellowed, striding forward to shield Bi Wenfeng behind her, eyes blazing with fury. With a swift motion, she slapped Ye Fann across the face. "Revolt? You have the gall to mooch off us and still bite the hand that feeds you? Get out!"
With that, Wang Ying pointed imperiously toward the door. "I want you gone this instant!"
Bi Wenfeng cowered behind Wang Ying, but despite his fear, he couldn't resist a cold sneer at Ye Fann. In his eyes, Ye Fann was nothing but a loser dependent on a woman's charity. The nerve of him!
Ye Fann remained rooted to the spot, the air thick with tension and silence.
Huang Xinying stepped forward, her brow furrowed, trying to calm her mother. "Mom, what's gotten into you? Come on, sit down. Let's just eat."
Wang Ying shot Huang Xinying a withering look. "Eat? I've lost my appetite!"
Without another word, Wang Ying grabbed her purse, yanked Bi Wenfeng with one hand and Huang Xinying with the other, and declared, "We're eating out. I can't stand the sight of that loser without getting furious."
A wave of elation washed over Bi Wenfeng. Clearly, Wang Ying was paving the way for him and Huang Xinying to spend time alone.
Without that deadbeat around to interfere, Bi Wenfeng thought smugly, casting a covetous glance at Huang Xinying's graceful figure, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Before they knew it, Wang Ying had whisked Bi Wenfeng and Huang Xinying away. On their way out, they bumped into Huang Yong, and the four of them piled into Bi Wenfeng's BMW X5, heading straight for the restaurant.
As soon as they were in the car, Huang Yong's mind raced with possibilities. With Chung Dafu gone and Huang Yong in the picture, it seemed like there was a light at the end of the tunnel for his gambling debts.
"Brother Feng, nice ride," Huang Yong blurted out, trying to make conversation amidst his excitement.
Wang Ying cut in before Bi Wenfeng could reply, "Of course it's nice. Who do you think your Brother Wenfeng is? He's nothing like that pathetic Ye Fann."
The mere mention of Ye Fann was enough to make Huang Yong seethe with anger.
"Mom, let's not talk about that backstabber. That lunatic just messed up a deal of mine."
"What? Really?" Wang Ying flared up in an instant.
"Exactly, Ye Fann is such a scoundrel..."
Huang Xinying, standing nearby, repeatedly opened her mouth to speak, only to hold back at the last moment. Each time she nearly spoke, she swallowed her words instead.
She didn't want her mother and brother to badmouth Ye Fann in front of others. But she couldn't let her mother find out about the situation with Chung Dafu, because the one million yuan gambling debt would only deepen her mother's disdain for Ye Fann.
And because of that debt, her mother would be even more determined to push Ye Fann out of their lives and find someone to help her brother clear his debts, someone like Bi Wenfeng.
Before they knew it, they had arrived at the restaurant.
"Auntie, you all go ahead inside. I noticed a jewelry store across the street, perfect for picking out a nice gift for Xinying."
"A gift? I want in on that..." Huang Yong perked up immediately.
Wang Ying yanked Huang Yong back and beamed at Bi Wenfeng, "Great, you two catch up after so many years. No rush, we'll head in and start ordering."
Huang Xinying didn't want to go, but Wang Ying pulled her straight into Bi Wenfeng's embrace. Bi Wenfeng casually wrapped his arm around her waist, catching Huang Yong's eye and lighting up his hopes.
In this turn of events, his million yuan debt seemed to have a shot at being resolved.
Certainly, he was a far better bet than Chung Dafu.
As fate would have it, the moment Bi Wenfeng and Huang Xinying stepped into the jewelry store, they ran into a woman—Yang Min, his fiancée.
Instantly, Bi Wenfeng's hands flew off Huang Xinying's waist, and he broke out in a cold sweat, "Min Min, what are you doing here...?"
Smack.
The sharp sound of a slap echoed as Huang Xinying's face took the brunt of it.
With a stormy expression, Yang Min grabbed Huang Xinying by the hair and glared at Bi Wenfeng, "Visiting relatives? Is that why you've brought a woman into this jewelry store?"
"No, Min Min, just hear me out..."
Huang Xinying suddenly collapsed to the ground, prompting Yang Min to signal the nearby driver with a wave of her hand, "Come here, strip them and toss them into the street. I'm eager to see what kind of trash has the nerve to tempt my man!"
Huang Xinying's face drained of color as Bi Wenfeng, gripped by panic, rushed forward to intervene, "No, Min Min, the thing is..."
"Get out of the way and stand still!" Yang Min commanded with a chilling calmness in her voice, her presence so commanding that Bi Wenfeng was instantly silenced.
Bi Wenfeng and Huang Xinying exchanged a glance, took a deep breath, and reluctantly moved aside.
Yang Min let out a scornful laugh and advanced, locking eyes with Huang Xinying, "See that? The man you seduced with your body, do you think he'd stand up for a loose woman like you?"
Huang Xinying hung her head, biting her lip, tears welling up but she remained silent.
Hope was always cruelly strangled by fate.
She had a stark realization. In this world, only Ye Fann was her beacon of hope.
That man might be penniless, powerless, and seemingly hopeless, but at least he cherished her, willing to protect her from life's storms.
"What are you waiting for? Strip her and throw her out onto the street," the woman barked suddenly.
The driver sprang into action, reaching for Huang Xinying's clothes as she desperately resisted, to no avail.
The surrounding shop employees looked on as if watching a drama unfold, Bi Wenfeng included.
"Min Min, you've got it all wrong, I was just..."
A scream pierced the air as the driver was sent flying, crashing headfirst into a wall, bloodied and unconscious.
Silence engulfed the scene.
Another man stood beside Huang Xinying, Ye Fann.
Without hesitation, Ye Fann removed his own clothes to cover Huang Xinying, whispering words of comfort before turning his gaze to Bi Wenfeng's wife, Yang Min.
Yang Min's expression turned to stone as she eyed the worn clothes on Ye Fann, "Who is this mongrel interfering in our affairs?"
Ye Fann caught sight of the distinct handprint on Huang Xinying's face and, in a flash, he was in front of Yang Min, delivering a sharp slap. "Who's this cur that dares to strike my wife?"
An eerie silence fell over the room.
Bi Wenfeng gaped at the mark on Yang Min's face, his shock giving way to realization as he rushed forward. "Min Min..."
"I'll kill you!" Yang Min's scream tore through the quiet as she shoved Bi Wenfeng aside and lunged at Ye Fann in a frenzy.
Ye Fann was taken aback. Was this a shrew in a fit of rage?
With ease, Yang Ming pulled Huang Xinying out of harm's way. He yanked Bi Wenfeng forward and sent him tumbling to the ground in front of Yang Min. "I'm well aware of the kind of person my wife is, but it seems you need a clearer picture of the man before you. Instead of causing a scene, perhaps you should take some time to set him straight. Otherwise, it's only a matter of time before he meets his end at the hands of another, leaving you to pick up the pieces and mourn in solitude."
With that, Yang Ming took Huang Xinying by the hand and headed for the door.
But just as they were about to exit, Yang Ming pivoted back, fixing Bi Wenfeng with a piercing gaze under Yang Min's bewildered stare. "Thinking of targeting Xinying? Go fetch your father, the so-called Eight-armed Hell King, and tell him my name is Ye Fann. I'll be right here waiting for him."
"If he doesn't show, I'll take the trouble to him!"
