C5 Let's Get a Divorce!
In the restaurant, Wang Ying and Huang Yong were plotting how to get rid of Ye Fann, who they felt was betraying them.
Bang—
Suddenly, someone kicked the door open and barged in. Leading the group was a man with a scar on his face, followed by a dozen burly guys armed with knives and clubs.
"Huang Yong, you can't pay your debts, but you have money to eat out? Real classy, huh?"
Huang Yong's face turned pale as he hurriedly got up and hid behind Wang Ying.
The scarred man quickly stepped forward, pressing a knife to Huang Yong's throat. "One hundred fifty thousand dollars. Pay up today or pay with your life. Your choice. Don't say I didn't give you a chance."
Huang Yong was stunned. "One... one hundred fifty thousand?"
The scarred man's eyes widened as he swung a punch into Huang Yong's stomach. "No interest, huh? Hurry up and pay. Not a penny less than one hundred fifty thousand!"
Beside them, Wang Ying finally snapped out of it and jumped up, spitting with anger. "What are you doing? What one hundred fifty thousand? Who are you people?"
After yelling, Wang Ying pointed at the scarred man, bossing him around like she did with Ye Fann at home. "Put that knife down, or I'll call the cops. I know people at the station, and you'll be in big trouble!"
Wang Ying's words were delivered with precision and authority, full of vigor.
The scar-faced man paused, then chuckled, "Oh, didn't see that coming. Got someone in the department?"
"Who's this, Huang Yong? Your sugar mama? No wonder you're acting so high and mighty."
"Alright then, let your sugar mama..."
"Shut your mouth!" Wang Ying exploded, rushing forward to slap the scar-faced man across the face. "You little punk, take a good look. I'm his mom!"
Being mistaken for a kept woman when she was actually his mother was infuriating for Wang Ying.
But that slap really set the scar-faced man off.
His dozen or so henchmen were stunned into silence, eyes wide. In all these years, they'd never seen their boss get hit, especially by a woman of her age.
And it was a slap right across the face.
This was a problem bigger than the financial crisis.
The scar-faced man's eyes blazed with fury, glaring at Wang Ying for a few seconds. "You hit me?"
His anger was palpable, a chilling threat in the air.
Wang Ying instinctively pulled Huang Yong back a few steps, feeling a chill down her spine, but she kept her defiant tone. "Yeah, I hit you. So what? I..."
"Get this woman out of here!" the scar-faced man suddenly roared.
Suddenly, a dozen burly men rushed toward Wang Ying.
"What’s going on?" A man's voice sounded from the doorway.
Ye Fann had arrived.
The men under the scar-faced leader all halted and turned to look at the entrance.
Ye Fann had asked Xinying to wait outside while he entered alone.
"Brother-in-law, save us, please!" Huang Yong, already collapsed on the floor, cried out desperately.
Wang Ying glanced at Huang Yong, gritting her teeth at her son's lack of backbone.
"Ye Fann!" Wang Ying shot a glare at him. "Did you bring these people here? What’s this about a hundred and fifty thousand? You better explain yourself!"
A hundred and fifty thousand? Ye Fann looked at Huang Yong, then scanned the scar-faced leader's men before focusing on the leader himself. "Wasn't it a hundred thousand? How did it become a hundred and fifty?"
At that moment, Huang Yong pulled Wang Ying to the corner. "Mom, you don’t know. Ye Fann lost money at the casino and owes them a hundred and fifty thousand. They're here to collect."
Wang Ying's face turned pale. A... a hundred and fifty thousand?
Ye Fann, you son of a—
Ye Fann didn’t notice Huang Yong's whispering. He was also worried that if a fight broke out, Wang Ying might get hurt. If that happened, Xinying would undoubtedly rush in, and he couldn’t bear the thought of her getting injured.
"Can we talk outside?" The man with the scar sneered, glancing back at Yong. "Sure, let's talk outside. I don't believe you can escape!"
In no time, Fann followed the scarred man and his crew outside.
Xinying rushed in, her face full of worry, only to be met with a slap from Ying. "Fann owes a hundred and fifty thousand in gambling debts, and you dared to hide it from me?"
"What do you think our family is? Go pay off that deadbeat's debt!"
Xinying touched her stinging cheek, tears welling up as she looked at Yong.
Yong quickly interjected, "Sis, this is really too much. Do you know what a hundred and fifty thousand means? You can't hide something like that! It could ruin us; Fann will drag us all down!"
"Yong, you..." Xinying's heart sank as she tried to defend herself.
"Xinying, listen to me!" Ying's voice cut through, filled with anger. "Listen carefully, our family doesn't support freeloaders, especially not ones who betray us. You need to divorce that loser and cut ties, or we'll cut ties with you!"
Cut ties.
Those words pierced Xinying's heart like needles, and finally, tears streamed down her face.
"Why are you crying? I'm doing this for your own good. Do you really want to be dragged down by Fann's hundred and fifty thousand in gambling debt? Or do you want our whole family to be dragged down? Huh?"
Wang Ying, frustrated beyond belief, shouted angrily, his face flushed with rage. Unable to contain his anger, he slapped Xinying and stormed out, dragging Yong with him.
Outside the restaurant, in a corner of the plaza, a man with a scar watched Fann with interest. He lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and blew smoke rings toward Ming's face. "Let's talk. One hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Are you paying cash or card?"
"You have three days. Not a cent less than one hundred and fifty thousand, delivered in full."
The scarred man chuckled, reaching for a knife nearby. He was about to press it against Fann's neck when, somehow, the knife ended up in Fann's hand.
Fann turned the tables, holding the knife to the scarred man's throat. The blade was cold, its chill making the scarred man freeze in place.
"You..."
"I said three days, and I mean it. If the money isn't here in three days, find someone else to deal with. I won't interfere."
His voice was icy, leaving no room for argument.
The scarred man gritted his teeth for a moment. "Fine, I'll give you three days!"
"But there's a condition."
"You've got the nerve to set conditions? You think just because you're holding a knife to my throat..."
"For these three days, you can keep hounding Yong for the debt. Just don't kill him or leave him maimed. Do whatever else you want. In three days, I'll bring the money myself."
The man with the scar furrowed his brow, staring at Ye Fann for a few seconds before understanding dawned on him. He smiled, "Alright, deal."
Soon after, Ye Fann returned to the hotel. Wang Ying and Huang Yong had already left, but Xinying was still waiting for him.
"What's wrong?" Ye Fann noticed she was crying and couldn't help but wrap his arms around her waist, his eyes full of concern.
Through her sobs, Xinying whispered, "I... I think we should get a divorce."
