C7 Divorce

Yang Min stared in disbelief at Ye Fann, "Who are you? How do you know..."

Ye Fann handed over a business card, completely blank, like a sheet of white paper. "I happen to know the head of your family. If you ever find yourself in a life-or-death situation, call the number on this card. Consider it a favor to your family head."

Yang Min looked at the blank card in her hand, stunned. "You know our family head?"

Just then, the driver stopped the car in front of Xinying. Ye Fann got out, gestured for Xinying to sit inside, then got back in, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Let's go. Since Miss Yang is sincerely offering us a ride as an apology, it would be rude to refuse."

The driver silently cursed to himself, thinking, "What a load of nonsense."

Xinying, a bit flustered, pressed closer to Ye Fann to distance herself from Yang Min. Yang Min, meanwhile, cast a deep, thoughtful glance at Ye Fann, quietly pocketing the card. The ride continued in silence, the air heavy with quiet tension.

At home, Wang Ying was getting angrier by the minute. One hundred and fifty thousand dollars! That Ye Fann is really something else. Ever since he came into the family, he's been freeloading without even a job. And now, he's lost one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, clearly trying to drag the whole family down with him.

Wang Ying was absolutely furious, so she decided to call the lawyer right away. Divorce, she insisted, they had to divorce and kick Ye Fann out of the Huang family for good!

The lawyer, Wang Chao, was Wang Ying’s nephew and had long been infatuated with his fair-skinned and beautiful cousin, Xinying. The moment he heard about the divorce, he rushed over like he was on a mission, quickly drafting up the divorce papers.

There was nothing more to say—Ye Fann, the freeloader, had to leave with nothing. If he dared not sign, they'd see him in court!

Shihao wanted to intervene, but the dark look on his wife Wang Ying’s face stopped him. He held back, not daring to say a word.

Their son, Huang Yong, was also siding with Wang Ying, insisting that the divorce had to happen. With lawyer Wang Chao adding fuel to the fire, promising that Ye Fann would leave with nothing, there was no way to stop this train.

“Why isn’t she back yet? I’ll call her,” Huang Yong said impatiently, getting up to call Xinying. He had it all planned out: once his sister was divorced, he’d set her up with Bi Wenfeng. If they hit it off, maybe by morning, Bi Wenfeng would be willing to fork over a hundred grand to help him settle his debts.

Shihao shook his head and sighed, retreating to his room. Not long after, Wang Ying headed to the bathroom.

Wang Chao's eyes darted around before he quickly slipped into Xinying's room. With practiced ease, he rummaged through the closet, picked up a pair of stockings, inhaled deeply, and stuffed them into his pocket.

Half an hour later, finally, Ye Fann and Xinying returned home.

Wang Ying slammed the divorce papers in Ye Fann's face. "Sign it, and get out. The $150,000 gambling debt is your problem. Don't think you can drag Xinying or our family down with you!"

Xinying was stunned, unable to process what was happening. She never imagined coming home to this. Did they really want her to get divorced so badly?

As Ye Fann bent down to pick up the contract, Huang Yong seized the moment to kick him to the ground. "A hundred and fifty grand? Are you out of your mind? You can't afford to take care of my sister, but you have money for the casino and lose it all? Ye Fann, you're unbelievable!"

"Huang Yong, what are you doing? You..." Xinying, heartbroken, tried to intervene.

Wang Chao stepped in, pulling her back. "Xinying, let it go. Why keep someone like him around? You're young and have your whole life ahead of you. No need to waste it on him."

Wang Ying tossed a pen in front of Ye Fann. "Sign it. Today, you're signing whether you like it or not. Either way, you're leaving. Get out of this house and stay as far away from Xinying as possible. Don't ever think about coming near her again!"

Xinying's eyes were filled with pain, and she finally couldn't hold back the truth any longer. "Mom, actually, the hundred and fifty thousand dollars is..."

"Don't say it, sis." Yong suddenly covered Xinying's mouth and dragged her into the room. "Don't say anything. This marriage has to end. Otherwise, are you going to pay back that hundred and fifty thousand for him? With what?"

With a bang, Yong pulled Xinying into the room and shut the door.

Meanwhile, outside, Fann was being bombarded by Ying and Chao. Even if he explained that the hundred and fifty thousand dollars was actually Yong's doing, no one would believe him. They'd just think he was making excuses.

Excuses? He didn't even want to explain.

"You want me to get a divorce? Have you asked the head of the Huang family?" Solving the problem only needed that one sentence.

The room fell silent.

Ying was taken aback, staring intently at Fann. "I'm the head of this family, and if I say you and Xinying should divorce, then you will!"

Fann calmly stood up, speaking steadily and confidently. "The Huang family has a main line and nineteen branches. You're just the nineteenth. Do you dare claim to be the head of the Huang family?"

Inside the room, Shihao shook his head as he listened to Fann, his eyes full of sadness, sighing silently.

Chapter Nineteen

"Ye Fann, what do you mean by that?" Wang Ying's face was flushed with anger as she pointed a trembling finger at Ye Fann. "Explain yourself! Are you saying I have no say in Xinying's matters anymore?"

"You had a say, but why did you look so reluctant back then, gritting your teeth as you married Xinying off to me?"

A sudden realization hit Wang Ying like a bolt of lightning, and she exploded.

In a fit of hysteria, Wang Ying charged at Ye Fann, slapping him repeatedly before grabbing Yang Min's arm and dragging him toward the door. "Let's go! I'm taking you to the Huang family right now to confront them. Today, I'll show you whether I have a say or not!"

At the door, Wang Ying turned back and shouted toward another room, "Shihao, what are you doing? Get out here and come with us!"

When Ye Fann and Huang Xinying got married, Wang Ying had vehemently opposed it. But the head of the Huang family was as authoritative as a king, leaving no room for refusal. To preserve Shihao's last bit of standing in the Huang family, Wang Ying had no choice but to agree, albeit reluctantly.

This was a thorn in Wang Ying's heart. Ye Fann's words today were like a sharp blade, piercing straight into her deepest wound.

The family's dignity and pride were pierced through, leaving them unable to even decide their own daughter's marriage. In this day and age, how could such a thing be acceptable?

But reason isn't something you just talk about; it's built up bit by bit through strength and perseverance.

The favored granddaughter of the family patriarch had returned from her military training. To celebrate her homecoming, the grandfather hosted a grand banquet, inviting influential figures from all around. Yet, somehow, he overlooked inviting Shihao's family.

In response, Wang Ying, filled with anger, brought Ye Fann to confront them, arriving just in time for...
