C20 Someone to Rely On
Once again, Lu Yuan came to her rescue, just in the nick of time.
Earlier, when he saw Su Lianyi and her sister leave the company grounds in a hurry, he instantly suspected that something had happened.
He hurried downstairs and drove like the devil to keep with them, and finally came to this scene.
Lu Yuan glanced at his wife, her teeth still clamped on Su Zheng’s arm, her eyes shut tightly. He couldn’t help but blame himself for what she had to do.
“Lianyi.”
Lianyi opened her eyes at the sound of his voice. When she looked up at Lu Yuan, she found guilt and remorse written all over his face.
A strange sense of security washed over her. She finally let go of Su Zheng and sat back down on the ground.
“You bitch! I’ll teach you a lesson today!” Su Zheng roared.
Instead of striking Su Lianyi, however, he let out a wail of pain as Lu Yuan twisted his arm and shoved him away.
Su Zheng cradled his broken arm and crumbled to the ground, crying out and screaming.
He had never emitted such a gut-wrenching sound before, not even when he was a child.
Unfortunately for him, this was only the beginning.
He was still blubbering in his tears when Lu Yuan landed a kick square in his chest. Su Zheng was sent flying eight meters away. If he hadn’t hit the side wall of the house, he might have gone even further.
Su Zheng promptly passed out from the pain and the impact.
But Lu Yuan wasn’t about to let him go so easily.
He strode over to where Su Zheng lay and bent over the unconscious man. In a few quick motions, Lu Yuan pressed several acupuncture points on the other man’s body. Su Zheng let out a gasp as he woke up, only to roll to his side and spit a mouthful of blood.
Lu Yuan didn’t give him time to collect himself. He proceeded to slap Su Zheng across the face.
Just like that, Su Zheng fainted again.
Without missing a beat, Lu Yuan repeated his previous motions.
Everyone could do nothing but watch in horror and disbelief.
Lu Yuan had just sent a fully-grown man flying with a single kick, knocking his poor victim out. And that thing he did, waking Su Zheng up only to render him unconscious again... It was far more cruel than anyone could have ever imagined.
The guards that Su Zheng had brought along were terrified, and no one dared to step forward and stop Lu Yuan.
The Su sisters, on the other hand, felt immensely gratified. Su Xiaoyu, who had always looked down on Lu Yuan, was now seeing him in a new light. She even found him a little handsome.
Lu Yuan continued to torture Su Zheng until the latter failed to wake up again.
Lu Yuan rose to his feet and wiped his bloody knuckles on his shirt. “Those of you who still want to live,” he said, his voice low and menacing, “leave immediately!”
His tone carried a murderous intent, and everyone scampered away and fled the courtyard.
Soon, he was alone with Su Lianyi and her family.
A couple of bodyguards had carried Su Zheng away at the last minute.
Su Lianyi was still slumped on the ground, her eyes dim and lifeless. The sight gnawed at Lu Yuan’s heart, and he found himself at a loss on how to remedy the situation.
As he stepped forward to comfort her, Suen Xiulian rushed over and intercepted him.
“Lu Yuan, you fool! Do you realize what you have done? Do you know whom you had beaten half to death just now? Su Zheng is Old Master Su’s favorite grandchild! Once the old man hears of this, he will surely seek retribution from our family!
Don’t you think you’ve done enough by having us expelled from the Su family? All of the misfortunes that befell my house were because of you! How dare you show your face to us?!”
“Stop it already!”
Su Xiaoyu yelled at her mother. In her opinion, Suen Xiulian had gone too far.
“Don’t be silly, Mom. It was the Su family that attacked us first. Why are you afraid that Old Master Su will seek revenge?
If they hadn’t been dead set on bullying our family, none of this would have happened in the first place.”
“Lu Yuan!” Su Lianyi suddenly called out, surprising everyone.
Lu Yuan turned to find her staring at him. “Lianyi?”
“What you said to me before... Did you mean it?”
Lu Yuan’s eyes turned serious. “Yes. If you want to hold the world in the palm of your hand, I shall give it to you.”
Su Lianyi broke down into sobs. “I’m tired. I just want someone to rely on, someone who can protect me from the cruel world and help me carry my burdens!”
Lu Yuan’s heart bled at her words. He crouched in front of her and wiped her tears away. “I’m here. I will protect you.”
He gave her shoulders a reassuring squeeze before turning away and leaving.
As if to affirm his promise, a bold of lightning streaked across the sky, followed by a heavy downpour.
Su Lianyi stared at the departing figure as he gradually disappeared through the curtain of rain. For some reason, she felt the urge to cry even harder.
“That Lu Yuan is one ungrateful bastard. See? Now that we have been disowned by the Su family, he’s leaving again, just like he did five years ago.”
Suen Xiulian didn’t even comfort her daughter and just cursed Lu Yuan behind his back.
It wasn’t until she had finished a string of expletives that she finally went to Su Lianyi’s side. “Lianyi, listen to me, okay? Go and beg your grandfather to let us back Hein to the family. Do whatever it takes, agree to whatever he wants, do you understand?!”
Su Lianyi choked on a sob. Compared to Lu Yuan’s abandonment, her mother’s selfish words cut deeper into her heart.
She shoved her mother away and shot up to her feet. “Fine! I will go and beg him right now! Whatever it takes to get you back into the Su family, right?! Even if he demands my life as payment, I’ll agree!”
She didn’t wait for her mother’s response and ran into the rain without looking back.
“Sister!” Su Xiaoyu made to chase after Su Lianyi, but their mother pulled her back. “Just let her go. She caused this trouble herself. It’s only right that she begs Old Master Su for mercy.”
“Get lost!” Su Xiaoyu pushed her mother away as well.
Suen Xiulian lost her balance and fell back onto the ground. “I’m doing this for your own good!” she screamed at her daughter in outrage.
At that point, Su Lianyi was already kneeling in front of Old Master Su’s door and begging for his forgiveness.
“Grandfather, please give me another chance! I have no intention of going back to the family, but at least let my parents and sister say. I promise to do whatever you want this time!”
She was drenched by the rain, her hair plastered to her skull. She was aching all over, but none of the physical pain matched the ache in her heart.
Old Master Su’s eyes were red-rimmed as he looked at the battered Su Zheng in front of him. His fury toward Su Lianyi had truly reached its limit.
And to hear her plead for mercy after what they had done to Su Zheng... Old Master Su was livid!
He got up from the living room and went to his desk, retrieving a vintage piece of parchment. He began writing on it.
Su Lianyi was exhausted enough as it was, having spent the last three days standing in front of the Qingyuan Group. And now, she was kneeling in the rain. She was functioning on sheer will alone, otherwise, she would have collapsed minutes ago.
Just when she thought she was going to lose to fatigue, the door of Old Master Su’s residence finally opened.
However, it wasn’t the old man who went out to meet her, but his butler. He was holding the document that Old Master Su had written just now.
Su Lianyi’s eyes darted between the butler and the document he was holding.
“Family Order No. 8,” the butler announced. “After a thorough discussion among the members of the Su family, and a unanimous decision was reached to expel Su Lianyi, Su Xiaoyu, Su Yecheng, and Suen Xiulian from the Su family. They will hereby be erased from the family tree!”
