C30 Couple

Just like a huge fireball, when the sun dropped to the horizon, a green modified car drove into Silver Tree City.

Gian felt as if he was sitting on pins and needles as his gaze unavoidably drifted towards the soldier sitting opposite him. Gian would never forget the way the fellow had lifted him up with just one hand. There was no anger, no contempt, no brutality, no pity. There was only calmness, like the autumn waters.

This meant that in the heart of the owner of these eyes, Gian was no different from a corpse on the side of the road. At that time, as long as the thumb and forefinger that was pinching his throat lightly closed, Gian believed that it would definitely be able to easily crush his Adam's apple. He even broke his neck.

But such a terrifying person, after letting him and his young female companion get into the carriage, had instead handed over twenty pieces to Tai Di as promised, even if Tai Di didn't dare to accept it.

In turbulent times, there was no law. In the wilderness, there was even less order. Whoever had the strongest fist would be the law. The force that Zero displayed could easily drive them out of the car or even kill them, then snatch the car and drive away. But he didn't. He just silently pulled his girlfriend into the car and then chose a seat near the window and sat down quietly.

Even so, no one was willing to approach zero. Sitting next to him was not as easy as sitting next to a Corpse wolf.

When the car drove into Silver Tree City, Zero looked out the window. The Silver Tree City was no different from two years ago. The streets of the city were filled with cracks, and the street lights or some other station signs were stained with blood from either a human or a wild beast. There was no vegetation left in the city, and the grass in front of the houses was now dry sand. And in those dark windows, Zero felt a sense of danger.

It was just that the feeling of danger was much weaker than two years ago. It could be seen that the monsters and mutated organism in the city had greatly decreased.

This reminded Zero of the migrating Corpse wolf. Most of the monsters in Silver Tree City had probably already left this abandoned city. But even so, entering the city with great thorns did not strike Zero as a good idea. Even if the car was modified, the machine gun on top of the roof could easily rip apart monsters that dared to provoke them, and the reinforced windows could be used to handle the attacks of nimble creatures like the living corpse.

The car finally stopped in front of a gas station by the side of the road. Gian and a few other men with hunting rifles and pistols got off the car. Su Yun asked Leah to stay in the car while he got off.

Although it was late in the evening, the temperature on the ground was still terrifyingly high. One could tell from the heat rising from the soles of his feet. Gian and the other men subconsciously distanced themselves from Zero. However, it was Tai Di, the young man, who did not have much fear towards Zero. The young driver took off his cap and shook his head. "Hell, there's not a drop of gas in the gas tank."

"Nonsense, this city has been deserted for so long, it would be strange if there was gasoline. "However …" Gian looked at the gas station's convenience store: "There are still some things that can be used in there, such as food or potions."

He waved his hand at the convenience store. A few men were about to follow. Zero stopped them. "I'll go. You guys protect the car and the woman."

Taking a step forward, Zero turned around and scanned the crowd with his ice-cold eyes. "If I find out that you have done something strange, believe me, I will make you regret it."

With that, he disappeared into the darkness of the convenience store in Leah's line of sight.

In the jungle, a ferocious bear might not be as strong as a pack of wolves. In this era where resources were scarce, it was much easier for a team to survive than for an individual. He still had a long way to go before he reached the Remte, and he would have to spend some time with Tai Di and the others on this journey. The deterrence of force alone would only last for a short period of time, and it was extremely unreliable. So if he wanted them to become companions, the only way was to win their trust and to make some contributions.

This is the only way to integrate with a team. Only by participating in it will others recognize you.

Naturally, there was no need for him to go through so much trouble with just one person. However, he had Leah with him, so for the girl's safety, he could only do what seemed unnecessary to him.

The convenience store was dark and quiet at the same time. He took out his revolver and held a pocket flashlight in his other hand for illumination. He felt his way through the door. The store was in a complete mess. He picked up some food and medicine from the cabinets that were still in good condition, but he didn't care about the lack of food. As long as he brought the items back, there would naturally be people who would differentiate and choose.

The convenience store was not as dangerous as he had imagined, but just as Zero was about to run away, a barely audible sound reached his ears.

The sound came from the lounge behind the convenience store.

He walked over and gently pushed the door open with the muzzle of his gun.

There was a small room behind the door, the last rays of the setting sun falling on the windowsill. The room was shrouded in a layer of dim yellow light.

What entered his eyes was a picture frame. The picture frame was not big. The photos inside were faded, but it was not hard to see that an old couple within the photo were cuddling together lovingly. It was a simple and simple happiness.

Beneath the frame was a single bed with the corpse of an old woman lying on it. The body was drained of water, leaving only a skin. The limbs, wrists, and ankles of the corpse were bound with rawhide rope. From the messy marks on the bed, it could be seen that the old woman had struggled violently before she died.

Beside the bed, there was an aged living corpse. The living corpse's hair had been completely removed, and from its appearance, one could tell that it was the aged man from the photo. The living corpse was lying on the ground, unable to move, because the lower part of its leg had already disappeared. Even if the old living corpse sensed the arrival of zero, it had no desire to attack. It could only mechanically dig out the remaining rotten flesh from its thigh and put it into its own mouth to chew.

Two years ago, when Mary had turned into a living corpse, she remembered that her former lover had already surprised him. Two years later, a living corpse that was devouring its own flesh and blood once again touched a soft spot in Su Yun's heart.

Looking at the intact body of the female corpse on the bed, Zero knew that this old living corpse would rather eat the flesh of its own body than hurt a single hair on its wife's head.

Remember that vow you made in front of the Sacred Palace. No matter whether I am rich or poor, whether I am born old or sick, or die of old age, I will always protect you by your side, never leaving you!

With a sigh, Zero put down the gun and took out his dagger. He walked up and his dagger drew a pale yellow streak across the setting sun. It grazed past the old living corpse's throat and removed his entire head.

Holding the head, Zero quietly placed it next to the female corpse and gently pulled the quilt under the bed to cover them.

This way, he would be able to sleep forever. It was just like those countless nights many years ago, when they slept in each other's embrace until the end of time!

After doing all that, Zero quietly left the room and the convenience store.
