C37 Unexpected
The green car started up and, under the officer's command, entered the checkpoint. Behind the gate was a stretch of sand where a few cars were parked. There were also some wreckage of cars. These things naturally could not be activated again, but the parts on their bodies could continue to display their residual heat, so they had not been disposed of.
In what might be called a parking lot, the car stopped. The people in the car got out one by one and trotted along with the officer in the hot noon sun. Behind the sand, a flat concrete floor was connected to it. Directly facing the entrance of the checkpoint was a six-story building. Apparently, the color of the walls above the third floor of the building was different from the ones below. It looked like it was repaired afterwards, but in reality, most of the buildings on the surface were like that in the Remte area.
Right now, they were at the marginal zone, which was also an armed area. The building in front of them was in fact acting as a post tower. At least four of the buildings had anti-aircraft guns installed. With just a quick glance, he could tell that the arrangements of these machine guns were extremely meticulous. The crossed fire net s were enough to tear apart any intruder that dared to invade through the main entrance.
There were around a hundred or so post tower s and machine guns in the surrounding area of Remte. Although the Remte did not need an expensive defensive system like the surface-to-air missile system, but in terms of a residential area, the Remte was many times better than the Z7 base that he stayed in before.
Behind the outer fortifications was a water purification plant. With the Remte's resources, it was obviously impossible to construct a water purifying plant out of thin air. The main reason the creator of the settlement had chosen this area back then was because this place was still a water purifying plant from the old era. The Water Purification plant could no longer operate, but after ten years of hard work, it was able to produce ten tons of clean water per day for the inhabitants of Remte. Although there wasn't much water and there was some radiation in the water, he was much happier than if he had purchased clean water or depended on groundwater for a living.
Other than the Pure Water Plant, there were also two other food processing plants, which gave the residents of the Remte a variety of nutrition, Su, and a small amount of bread. Of course, it wasn't moldy bread that he had eaten, but hot bread that had been baked in the oven. During the turbulent times, it was already a luxury to be able to eat such bread. Naturally, this kind of bread was not cheap. At the very least, ordinary people would not be able to eat it.
Behind this industrial area was the Remte's residential area. They were houses that had completely restored and refurbished the homes of the inhabitants of the old era, which were only opened after the sun had set. Those who normally stayed in the underground base could rent a house from the Remte on a monthly basis, so that they could experience the old life again after sunset.
Residents lived in the underground base, worked, and earned the salaries they needed to live. Then, through the purchase of food, water, loans and entertainment, he would allow the currency to flow back into the Remte's treasury, thereby maintaining the balance of income between the inhabitants and the settlement. Other than this portion of the resident's income, Remte could also increase his income by selling additional clean water, collecting all kinds of fees to join the population, and even set up his own army, using the method of capturing mutated organism s and selling samples.
The extra income will be used to expand the size of the Remte and other projects to attract more foreigners and to work with other companies or corporate companies.
Undoubtedly, the founder of the Remte had a very long-term perspective. Therefore, the marginal zone of this continent continuously grew with steady steps.
At the entrance of underground base, after a series of handover procedures. They rode in a private elevator and were led by a woman dressed as an office lady to underground base, which was two hundred metres deep.
Different from Z7, Remte's underground base obviously didn't have any Operating area's abilities. This place was divided into four main regions according to their functions: living area, Administrative District, Commercial District and Temporary Stophouse.
Amongst them, the Stophouse was the smallest in area. They called them the Stophouse, but in reality, it was just an open space. Apart from the concrete floor, there was nothing else, not even a resting tent. Fortunately, Tai Di and the others brought two tents, and opened it up. One of them let the child and the woman rest, while the other gave it to Leah and Zero to thank them for paying the temporary living expenses.
Not long after they were deployed, several people in protective gear were escorted by a group of soldiers to the base. This was a quarantine procedure specially prepared for outsiders. If a virus infection or genetic mutation was detected in the personnel, they would be chased out of the base along with the others. "If you don't want to go, a dozen microcomputers will make you give up.
Tai Di and the others were very nervous, the Dahl base was lacking in medical facilities. Honestly speaking, if one of them was infected with a virus, the others wouldn't know as long as it didn't happen. As a result, when they saw the inspectors sweeping up and down their body, the people in the Dahl were very nervous.
But the ones who were most nervous were none other than Leah and Leah.
Before this, the only thing he saw on the map was the words Remte used to mark the living area. In his understanding, the living area was the place where the people in the wilderness lived together. No matter how rich his imagination was, Zero never thought that the scale of the Remte was not any less than that of some companies or bases, nor did he think that they had a virus detection program.
This way, the matter of Leah being infected would be exposed.
"Take off your hat."
An investigator said to Leah, who instinctively hid behind Zero. The employee shook his head helplessly, and did not force Leah, but he still used the detector to scan Leah's body.
Seeing the screen of the detector jump up and down with all kinds of data, Zero was ready for the worst. If Leah was found out, he naturally had to leave with the girl. And if Remte wanted to force Leah into a isolation or even kill him because of this, then Zero had already prepared to rush out. However, this way, it would implicate Tai Di and the others.
But at this time, Zero couldn't care less.
However, the detector had scanned Leah from head to toe, yet did not sound the alarm, which made the two of them feel lucky but confused. There could only be two reasons why the detector did not alert the police. One of them was that the detector had malfunctioned, and the other was that Leah had not been infected by the virus at all.
Based on the size of the Remte, the first possibility was next to nothing. There was only a second possibility left.
Leah had never been infected by a virus!
