C84 Adventurer
Zero opened his eyes and bounced up from the ground. He then quickly swept his leg out and extinguished the bonfire with a pile of sand and rocks. The gunfire and the roar were faint, as if the battle in the distance was approaching. It was no doubt a nuisance. There were only two ways to deal with trouble. The first was to avoid it and the second was to finish it as soon as possible.
In the midst of the sounds of battle, Zero could tell that the situation seemed to be disadvantageous for the humans. He decided to do them a favor. In the wilderness, unless there was a clear enmity between them, supporting their own kind was a rule that did not need to be stated clearly.
After waking Moni and telling her and Lara to stay in the tent and not come out, Zero rushed to the battlefield like a ghost. The battlefield wasn't too far away from his camp. Not even one kilometer away, he could see a group of men and horses fleeing on the road under the night sky. There were two off-road vehicles in the group, and a few carriages which were being pulled by a mutated two-headed horse. The carriage was covered with a thick layer of waterproof cloth s, as if they were transporting some kind of goods.
It looked like it was a merchant caravan.
Behind the caravan, a dozen or so guards were using automatic rifles to repel the invading Corpse wolf. These scavengers liked to come and go at night, so it seemed like the caravan was out of luck. From a zero-point of view, there were at least two or three hundred strong male wolves attacking the caravan from the back of the road.
Although the caravan's firepower temporarily suppressed the wolfpack's attacks, when the ammunition was used up, judging from the daggers and machetes carried by the guards, it was not a sharp weapon to deal with a pack of wolves.
After observing for a while, Zero felt that something was amiss. wolfpack's attacks seemed to be too regular. As everyone knew, wolves were social animals. Moreover, during hunting, they would show a higher level of organization than other wild beasts. However, the wolfpack that was attacking the caravan couldn't be described as organized anymore. Their waves of fierce and short attacks were simply like an army that had trained Su. This was not the battle intelligence that the wolfpack should have.
Su Yun was shocked, the group of wolves made him remember the group of living corpse he saw in Silver Tree City two years ago. At that time, these living corpse had already displayed a wisdom that they shouldn't have, and even formed the rudiments of society. But now, this group of Corpse wolf let Zero see the fighting style of this army, which made him think of the word evolution.
The evolution of life was not only on the level of strength. Occasionally, it would also be expressed in terms of intelligence. The latter was far more valuable than the former. Zero could not imagine what kind of world the living corpse, Corpse wolf or other monsters would become when they gained intelligence. It was certain that the human space would shrink further, and then the world would be more cruel than it was now.
A zero is not a philosopher, much less a statesman. He didn't need to worry about these big topics. Helping the caravan solve this crisis was more important. After circling around in the air a few times, he quietly walked towards the back of the wolfpack.
Campbell put the cross to his forehead. Sitting in the SUV, he sincerely prayed that God would show his face and help him survive this disaster.
Campbell is in his late twenties this year, but by the standards of the wilderness he is still in his prime. Although his hair had long since turned white and the muscles in his body had begun to loosen, he still had the energy of a young man. Because of this, Campbell became one of the most outstanding adventurer on this coastline.
adventurer was a business that only appeared after the catastrophe. Even after the earth became dangerous, there were still wealthy people who were willing to take the risk to run the business of selling goods to the south and selling goods to the north. These merchants who spent most of their time on the earth, wandering between different bases and between different companies were called adventurer.
In times of turmoil, large companies like Parkland's valve did not have the ability to transport goods independently. Therefore, adventurer was born at the right time. They would sometimes bring goods that were not available locally from far away, or conduct long distance trade interactions between the company and the company. There were even some merchants who would purchase strange creatures from the Southwest Land and bring them to the coastline for sale. This kind of merchant would also have a nickname. People would call them the Monster Broker.
Campbell was such a monster broker.
People always had a mysterious desire to control others, especially those who held a high position. In this turbulent era, having a large number of human subordinates and subjects was no longer enough to satisfy the needs of the big figures. Their desire made them willing to buy ferocious and dangerous monsters as pets from Campbell. Even though there would always be some unfortunate people who would be killed by his pets, Campbell's business never stopped because of this.
This time, he bought some good stuff from the Southwest Land, including a treasure grade monster. Campbell believed that he could get a good price for it. Of course, no one could afford to buy it. So this time, Campbell was planning to be a bit more greedy. He was going to the Eternal Night City, where the Dark Council was located, so the leaders of the council would definitely be interested in studying this rare species that came from the deeper parts of the Southwest Land.
I heard that in order to capture this monster, the adventurer team that sold it to Campbell paid a price of near total annihilation. Such a monster was truly unheard-of. However, before arriving at the Eternal Night City, Kaiju had planned to give this monster a tour performance. On one hand, he wanted to spread the news to the Eternal Night City and on the other hand, he wanted to earn more money. As the saying goes, killing two birds with one stone, why wouldn't Campbell do it?
During Campbell's journey, Titan City, which was not far from this place, was one of the bases that he had to pass. Campbell, who had been eating and sleeping badly ever since he got back from Southwest Land to the coastline, wanted to get a good night's sleep in a safe base. When he was in Titan City, he would let the team travel through the night.
Since it was adventurer, Campbell naturally had a bit of defense. In fact, a hired mercenary soldier named "Arctic Fox" served him all year round. This group of people that hired mercenary soldier were all veterans that battled year round. Amongst them, the captain and aide-de-camp of the mercenary soldier were people with superpowers at the third step of cultivation and fourth rank. Although their abilities were not the most powerful hot weapon specialists or the perception domain's scouting abilities, but there were very few mistakes during the period of guarding Campbell, so Campbell did not have the intention to switch them out.
But tonight, the usually experienced Arctic Fox was being beaten by a group of hungry Corpse wolf. In Campbell's business history, the Corpse wolf was a monster that did not even have the value to sell. Monsters like these would be killed off with just a few rounds of fire.
But now, it seemed that the Arctic Fox had spent too much time fighting. This made Campbell's unbrave heart fall into a shadow that made people panic.
The reason why adventurer dared to walk on dangerous grounds was due to his greed for wealth and not his courage to face any danger!
