C12 Escape from Death!(2)
Sometimes, heightened sensitivity in certain bodily functions can become a liability. As he made his way into the supermarket, Willett mulled over strategies to outsmart the L-shaped zombies.
The supermarket was nearly empty of zombies, which made sense given that it was under martial law during the disaster. Why would there be many people there? Upon reaching the cosmetics aisle, he glanced at the luxurious array of makeup and perfumes, including many high-end brands—items he had never even considered before. It wasn't a matter of affordability; he simply had no one to gift them to. After all, he was a bachelor with no girlfriend. This thought made him chuckle. It was rare for boys his age not to have given a girl perfume or cosmetics at least once. That's when it hit him—perfume!
With a sudden exclamation, he realized how to combat the L-shaped zombies. Their extraordinary sense of smell and hearing were key in hunting, but perfume could effectively disrupt their olfactory abilities. And as for their hearing, the sound systems on the supermarket's first floor would likely give the L-shaped zombies a hard time.
Without hesitation, Willett grabbed a shopping bag and began frantically loading it with various perfumes, clearing out the entire counter before dashing off to the sound system section.
In the sound system area, Willett mentally expressed gratitude for the power department's distribution measures that kept the electricity running in the supermarket. He swiftly hooked up eight speakers and DVD players, cranked up the volume to its maximum, inserted a disc, and then took cover with the remote control in hand.
At that moment, Willett was reminded of a movie called "Thirteen Shocking Games," which featured a scene where the protagonist stretched a wire across the road, leading to a group of speeding bikers being sliced in half. Inspired by the film and hearing the L-shaped zombies' howls nearby, he decided to take a risk.
He opened all the perfume bottles, not only dousing himself with the fragrances but also sprinkling them around as he walked, filling the entire home appliance section with a variety of scents. The mixture of these aromas with the stench of decay was so overpowering that he felt his sense of smell might fail him. He imagined that the L-shaped zombies, with their heightened olfactory senses, would find the smell even more unbearable.
While dispersing the perfume, he quietly made his way to the daily goods section and effortlessly located the wire sales area. He stealthily grabbed a bundle of wire and returned to the audio equipment section to set up his trap.
The trap was straightforward: he tied a bundle of wire in front of each speaker. He was confident that when the L-shaped zombie charged toward the sound, the wires would deliver a nasty surprise. Once everything was in place, the zombie's sounds were alarmingly close. Given the pungent odors in the area, it was nearly impossible to remain undetected. Willett silently prayed for the effectiveness of his trap and then pressed the remote control.
"If the lover was born in the year 1774, a century ago..."
The speakers emitted a melodious tune, but to the L-shaped zombie, it might as well have been a siren call of fresh meat beckoning, "Come eat me!" Upon hearing the sound, the zombie charged furiously toward the music-playing speaker.
"Crack... Aargh!"
In an instant, under Willett's watchful eye, the L-shaped zombie collided with the wire, tearing through it and obliterating the speaker. A large chunk of its flesh was sliced off, oozing purplish blood as it bellowed in rage.
"It looks like the muscle tissue of the L-shaped zombies is still within the range of normal humans; there's a limit to their toughness. But their healing speed is freakishly fast!" Willett noted as he watched the zombie's arm wound close up rapidly. The wound remained, but the bleeding had stopped. He observed quietly to himself.
Bolstered by his initial successful experiment, Willett felt a newfound sense of confidence. He repeated his tactic, activating the remaining seven speakers. Despite the L-shaped zombie's basic animalistic hunting instincts, it lacked intelligence. Each time it destroyed a speaker, it lost a significant amount of flesh, and one of its arms was completely severed by the wire. By the time the last speaker was demolished, the zombie was riddled with injuries. However, Willett's traps had all been destroyed, and now he was the only obstacle left in the path of the L-shaped zombie.
Gripping his weapon tightly, Willett took a deep breath. He knew that he would have to face this kind of monster sooner or later, and since there was no escaping it, he might as well start with this one!
As Willett prepared to launch an attack on the L-shaped zombie, the creature also set its sights on him and charged. Its speed had been greatly reduced due to extensive muscle damage, including its legs, but Willett was now fully able to keep up with its movements. As the zombie lunged at him, Willett inhaled sharply, lifted his weapon, and charged forward.
"Thud!"
The initial clash ended in a stalemate; the L-shaped zombie's claws were parried by Willett's machete, but its tongue had ensnared Willett's short spear. Man and zombie were locked in a standoff...
Suddenly, the L-shaped zombie's tongue exerted a tremendous force, flinging Willett's short spear aside, then shot towards him like a creature from a sci-fi movie. In the nick of time, Willett clenched his jaw, hoisted his machete upward, and, by sheer luck, blocked the attack. He managed to sever a large portion of the L-shaped zombie's tongue. The intense pain sent the zombie into a frenzy, its remaining claw slowly pushing down Willett's blade, inching closer to his face.
"This is it!"
With the zombie's claw nearing his eye, Willett bit down hard, summoning all his strength, but the L-shaped zombie was overpoweringly strong. Even as he tasted blood from biting his gums, he couldn't halt the advancing claw.
"Ah! Die!"
Just as the claw grazed Willett's eyelashes, his pent-up fear exploded, driven by a single thought: "I cannot die!" With a roar of rage, his right arm began to swell, transforming into a powerful limb reminiscent of the Terminator. With a forceful shove, he sent the L-shaped zombie tumbling. As the creature struggled to right itself, Willett hoisted his long blade and, with a swift motion, brought it down fiercely.
"Swoosh!"
A soft thud was heard as the L-shaped zombie began to collapse, motionless. It took a full second before it slowly split in two. At that moment, a pale blue liquid oozed from the brain of the L-shaped zombie, winding down the drooping blade of the machete and onto Willett's body.
Pain! The pain came again!
