C15 He Deserved to be Called the Son of Destiny.
Yesterday, after Zhao Dong reached out to Lau Siyao, he promised to provide her with food and fresh water. However, today he was preoccupied with battling crocodiles and failed to get in touch with her. Lau Siyao, hesitant for reasons of her own, didn't reach out to Zhao Dong either. Consequently, once the trading channel went live, she proactively posted her trade information.
Zhou Fann was ecstatic. My woman is safe. He quickly sent a message: "Lau Siyao, thank goodness, you're okay."
Lau Siyao responded, "Zhou Fann, is that really you? How are you holding up?"
Zhou Fann replied with a laugh, "You know me—I'm a former soldier. A situation like this doesn't faze me."
Listening to Zhou Fann's buoyant tone, Lau Siyao felt a wave of emotion. She had indeed chosen well; Zhou Fann was a young man of firm resolve and considerable strength.
"I caught your trade post," Zhou Fann continued. "You've got water and wolf meat there. I'm sending some your way."
Lau Siyao couldn't hide her gratitude, replying quickly, "Thank you. My mother and I are together now. We didn't have any water yesterday. You're a lifesaver. I'm eager to see you soon."
Clearly, Lau Siyao has feelings for me. She's anxious to see me.
Zhou Fann felt a surge of confidence and glanced at the wolf leg beside him. After a moment's thought, he decided against taking the leg, as he needed it to barter for iron pieces to craft spearheads. Instead, he sliced off some meat from the wolf's belly.
The meat from that part was tough and unappetizing, but Zhou Fann deemed it sufficient.
Having prepared the meat, Zhou Fann messaged, "I'll send it right over."
Originally, Zhou Fann had wanted to send cooked meat, but with the spearhead project pressing, he opted to send it raw.
"As for water, I'll fill a wolf's stomach and bring it to you," Zhou Fann added in another message.
The water, tainted with blood, was far from palatable—even he was reluctant to drink it. But there was no helping it; he needed his stone bowl for his own use.
Lau Siyao was deeply moved by Zhou Fann's kindness.
"I've got some fruit here," Lau Siyao offered. "I'll send some to you as well."
"Alright, Lau Siyao," Zhou Fann reassured her, "you and your mother stay put. I'll find you as quickly as I can. You'll be safe."
"Thank you, Zhou Fann," Lau Siyao replied.
Zhou Fann added, "By the way, before I came to this world, I learned that Zhao Dong—the rich kid—had asked to meet you..."
"What? You knew about that?" Lau Siyao exclaimed.
"Yes," Zhou Fann confirmed. "One of Zhao Dong's flunkies mentioned it. He said Zhao Dong had dishonorable intentions and was pursuing you."
Zhou Fann believed that Zhao Dong's interest in Lau Siyao was nothing short of predatory, especially given his wealthy background.
Lau Siyao seemed to misunderstand and simply said, "I see."
Zhou Fann explained further, "I was actually following you at the time, intending to come to your aid. But then, all of this happened."
Lau Siyao expressed her gratitude, "Thank you. Back then, to get treatment for my mother's illness, I had no choice but to borrow money from him."
Zhou Fann warned, "Zhao Dong is a very cunning individual. You need to be vigilant. He's already achieved the first kill, the first to start a fire, and the first to craft something from wood. The rewards for those feats are substantial, and he's ahead of us. We can't afford to take him lightly."
"I'm aware," Lau Siyao acknowledged. "Actually, he reached out to me yesterday."
She proceeded to share with Zhou Fann the details of Zhao Dong's contact the previous day.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Fann was livid!
"He actually reached out to you? You can't accept anything from him. Trust me on this; who knows what kind of tricks he's plotting," Zhou Fann insisted.
Lau Siyao thought Zhou Fann was being somewhat overzealous.
After all, Zhao Dong was miles away. How could he possibly harm her from such a distance?
Yet, she felt moved, realizing that Zhou Fann's concern for her was driving his cautionary words.
"I understand," Lau Siyao replied.
After their conversation, Lau Siyao eyed the chunks of meat and wolf stomach Zhou Fann had sent with a furrowed brow.
"Siyao, who gave you these?" inquired Yang Juan, her mother, who had just woken up and looked quite unwell.
Lau Siyao filled her in on her exchange with Zhou Fann, to which Yang Juan nodded in approval. "Zhou Fann is quite considerate, sending so much. That's wonderful."
"It's just unfortunate that the water is stored in stomach pouches. It's rather unpleasant to drink."
Lau Siyao wrinkled her nose at the odor.
"Well, we have to make do with what we have under these circumstances."
Zhou Fann then posted a buying request.
Zhou Fann: Looking to purchase triangular iron pieces, offering wolf legs in exchange.
Surprisingly, Zhao Dong also posted a similar buying request.
Zhao Dong: Seeking triangular iron pieces, iron blocks, and various iron tools!
Many people started messaging Zhao Dong privately.
Zhou Fann noticed Zhao Dong's buying request and was instantly infuriated.
"Zhao Dong is definitely targeting me!"
He scoffed at the thought of the rich second-generation Zhao Dong crafting weapons. "Just wait, I'll finish making mine first."
Meanwhile, Zhao Dong was still barbecuing.
He saw Lau Siyao's buying request and smirked to himself, preferring to post a request rather than reach out to him directly.
It looked like he'd have to swallow his pride and approach her again.
Yet, considering the advantages Lau Siyao stood to gain, he felt it was worth the effort.
As the barbecue neared completion, Zhao Dong messaged Lau Siyao, "I noticed your buying request. Didn't I say I'd provide for you?"
Lau Siyao saw the message and Zhou Fann's earlier advice echoed in her mind.
She chose to ignore it, focusing instead on preparing her own roast meat by the bonfire.
But then, Yang Juan clutched her stomach in agony.
"Ah, the pain..."
"Mom..."
"My stomach condition is flaring up again. This roast meat is making it worse."
Yang Juan's face turned a shade of pale green from the pain.
Lau Siyao was beside herself with worry, uncertain of what to do.
The doctor had advised that with Yang Juan's stomach condition, food needed to be thoroughly cooked to a soft consistency to be gentle on her stomach.
Yet there was no pot to be found here.
That's precisely why she had requested one, in addition to seeking food.
Zhao Dong called out, "Are you there? Are you there?"
He continued to send messages, pondering whether Lau Siyao's mother's stomach ailment had flared up again.
Lau Siyao's mother was in frail health, with stomach issues being a recurring problem, as depicted in the novels. It wasn't long before she was handed a pre-packaged meal.
Following Yang Juan's death, Lau Siyao grew much stronger, and her fortunes began to turn.
Initially, Zhao Dong was at a loss, but now that he had acquired an iron pot, things were looking up.
"I've just made a pot of meat soup," Zhao Dong offered. "If you'd like some, I can send it your way!"
He was sure that Lau Siyao would react to his message.
Unless she was willing to watch her mother continue to suffer.
True to Zhao Dong's prediction, Lau Siyao was taken aback by his message.
"Do you have the means to cook meat soup? You have a pot?" Lau Siyao inquired.
Without missing a beat, Zhao Dong snapped a photo of the pot and sent it to her.
"When I was battling a vicious beast, I stumbled upon this pot," Zhao Dong explained. "I've just made a pot of meat soup with wolf thigh meat – it's a particularly tasty and aromatic cut, and I've already de-gamed it!"
He followed up with photos of additional supplies.
Seeing the abundance of resources, Lau Siyao was bewildered.
Her life had been so difficult, yet Zhao Dong seemed to have an ample supply of everything.
He had food, beverages, and even women's clothing and underwear!
