C55 Book
"Ke Qi, isn't it better for you to do this?"
Yuan Runn's voice had become more muffled, but it was still possible to make out what the other person wanted to say. Yuan Runn looked around at the people who were traveling, all of them in groups, not a single person alone.
Yuan Runn felt a bit embarrassed about leaving Yan Jia "abandoned" in the library. After all, it should have been Ke Qi and Yan Jia together while Yuan Runn was alone. But now it had turned into Yan Jia being alone.
"It's alright. It's Yan Jia's own fault for staying in the library and not coming out. With so many books, who has the patience to keep reading?"
Ke Qi responded dismissively.
It was already the second day since they left the town, the day after they visited the "museum."
Originally, the plan was for Yuan Runn to explore the Zhenkong Demiplane alone while Ke Qi accompanied Yan Jia in the library. But unfortunately, a certain "white wolf" couldn't stand the atmosphere of the library and ran out on its own.
They even had the audacity to call it a Zhenkong Demiplane exploration with Yuan Runn. Then they left Yan Jia alone in the library.
Meanwhile, Yan Jia was quietly searching for a book.
In a corner of the library, the library staff were conducting their routine inspection. Although the reason was unknown, there were regulations in place requiring the library to be inspected periodically.
I wonder what they're trying to prevent?
Fortunately, the staff on each floor were different, so after taking a stroll, Yan Jia could return to his seat.
Taking a sip of tea, the staff continued their leisurely patrol.
The entire floor was filled with bookshelves, neatly arranged with books lining each shelf.
[Hmm, what's there to inspect? Better hurry back. Only a small area remains to be checked. I'll take a shortcut and skip that part; no one will notice anyway.]
The librarian adjusted the turtle shell on his back and thought silently.
After reaching the corner, instead of continuing to inspect the other side, the librarian walked through the middle of the bookshelves, taking a shortcut to prepare for rest.
The gap between the bookshelves in the corner was very narrow. A normal-sized human could easily walk through, but for some larger species or beings with distinctive characteristics, they would have to take a detour.
Due to the large turtle shell on the administrator's back, he had to sidestep to pass through the bookshelves.
Just as the librarian was passing by, a book that hadn't been properly placed was accidentally bumped by the administrator's turtle shell and fell to the ground.
While bending down to pick up the book, the librarian didn't notice that their cup of tea had tilted slightly, causing some of the tea to spill onto the floor.
The spilled water was not much, and the librarian didn't pay much attention to it. He continued walking towards the other side.
Behind him, the spilled tea slowly spread on the ground until it was partially absorbed by the wooden bookshelves. The remaining tea on the floor was hardly noticeable if one wasn't paying attention.
Shortly after, a hurried figure passed by without noticing the spilled tea on the ground. As they walked past, they slipped on the tea and accidentally kicked the nearby bookshelf.
Well, it made a loud noise, and the fall was quite unfortunate.
However, all of this was of no concern to Yan Jia, as he was still engrossed in his book.
On the other side, Ke Qi was having a great time playing around. Meanwhile, Yuan Runn looked around at the crowd, feeling worried about Yan Jia being alone.
Unfortunately, Ke Qi paid no attention to these concerns. He pulled Yuan Runn along and hurried to the next attraction, completely oblivious to the growing crowd around them. Although Ke Qi was familiar with these attractions and had visited them many times, he still preferred playing in these places compared to the quietness of the library.
On the other side, Yan Jia finished flipping through the book in his hand, but he didn't gain much from it. He was about to go to another area to search for something when...
"Hurry up and give me back the book."
A child's voice broke the quiet atmosphere in the library, startling the old "Turtle" who was drinking tea.
It also caught Yan Jia's attention. Yan Jia turned his head from the book in front of him to see who was making the noise. He didn't know that he was not allowed to make a loud noise in the library.
At the other end of the row of bookshelves, a small boy who didn't seem very big was holding a book up high. Beside him was an even smaller girl, jumping around and trying to snatch the book back from the boy's hands. Unfortunately, due to her height, she failed to succeed even after several attempts.
"Come on, come on, if you can reach me, I'll give it back to you. Come on."
The little boy holding the book kept lowering it to a height that the other person seemed able to reach with a stretch of their hand. But every time the other person reached out, he would lift the book again, not allowing them to touch it, teasing them continuously.
On the wall behind the two children, the word "Quiet" stood out prominently.
Yan Jia, who had originally intended to intervene between the two, stopped halfway.
Now, in front of Yan Jia, the little girl who had been jumping around had already picked up the book that had just been held up in the air.
As for the little boy who had been provoking the other person, he was now kneeling on the ground.
Just a moment ago, when the little girl took advantage of the other person's hands being raised high, she aimed at their vital spot and delivered a perfect kick, landing a critical hit with real damage, instantly fatal.
In an instant, the once proud little boy immediately knelt down.
The fabric of the boy's pants absorbed the residual tea, leaving two dark stains on his knees.
Still seemingly unsatisfied, the little girl who picked up the book from the ground delivered another kick to the one kneeling on the ground.
Bang.
She directly kicked the other person, causing them to collide with the bookshelf. The bookshelf tilted slightly. Then, taking advantage of the fact that the other person hadn't gotten up yet, the little girl grabbed the book and ran away.
Er...
I should continue looking for books to read.
Yan Jia quietly started searching for books on the shelf next to him.
The child who was originally kneeling on the ground was helped up by someone.
Beside him, the tilt angle of the bookshelf became increasingly larger. Finally, the boy's hand resting on the bookshelf became the last straw that broke the camel's back.
Crack... Crack... Ka...
The bookshelves that once filled the entire floor were like a grand feast of dominoes, falling one after another. The row of bookshelves collapsed halfway before being stopped by someone.
Meanwhile, the books that were neatly placed on the bookshelves were scattered all over the floor. The little boy who had thought of making a run for it was caught by the administrator, who grabbed the back of his shirt.
At that moment, a yellowed book slid among the scattered books and stopped at Yan Jia's feet, hitting his foot.
