C1 CHAPTER 1

Christian Briggs was bent over, trying to catch his breath. He didn't know what had possessed him to add another mile to his daily jog.

He was still panting when a bright light flashed before his eyes.

He barely had time to compose himself when the strange scenery around him caught his attention.

He was in the middle of a street that looked like a tornado had done a number on it with damaged cars, broken glass and collapsed buildings.

There was a pungent stench of blood in the air, so thick, he could hardly take a breath without choking.

As if things couldn't get any worse, he made eye contact with a soulless pair of eyes.

He stifled a scream, stepping back in shock, only to bumped into someone… or something.

Pale skin, soulless eyes, tattered clothing, blood. No matter how he saw it, these were definitely zombies.

And they were everywhere!

These zombies didn't attack him, but they stood rooted to the spot, as if frozen in time.

Just then, a notification sound rang in his head, followed by a mechanical voice.

[Welcome to the World of Apocalypse Game!]

With that, a strange map appeared in his head.

He assumed this was the planet he was now on, noting the differences between this strange planet and earth.

[This is the Blue Planet, although its size and population is different from Earth's, they both have similar cultural and technological development]

[To survive, please note the following points:]

[1. The whole world is shrouded in a special energy. Killing zombies and collecting energy from mutated creatures will sometimes give you an advantage over firearms]

[2. The natural water source has been contaminated, untainted water might kill you]

[3. Mutated plants and animals are not necessarily harmful. Some plants and animals have meat or fruits that can be eaten. They can even strengthen the body]

[4. There are many material boxes scattered all over the world. Treasures in these times can be found in them]

[5. Everyone has a spatial ring. It can increase storage space by consuming energy! It is an important item for survival]

[6. Use the harvesting skill to quickly collect materials from zombies and mutant creatures]

[7. Every time night falls, zombies and mutated creatures will become more active. I suggest you find a safe and stable shelter]

[8. The current level of zombies and mutated creatures has been suppressed. The ability to suppress them will weaken once every 30 days! Please prepare in advance!]

[Attention! The game will start in 1 minute!]

[Adjusting gravity parameters...]

[Constructing the world in the game...]

[Rebooting city power...]

[Activating long-distance auction trading function...]

[Activating chat channel…]

The notification sound kept ringing in his head, making it difficult for him to process the new information.

Christopher Briggs found himself on the main road, and the game was set to begin at any moment. The sight of the approaching zombies sent a shiver down his spine, and he knew that the little flesh on his bones would hardly satisfy their hunger.

He had to find a safe hiding spot quickly. But where? Who knew if there were more zombies lurking in the nearby shops? The task of finding a safe place to hide within a minute was no easy feat.

Christopher Briggs looked around nervously, scanning his surroundings for any signs of safety. His eyes settled on a restaurant by the side of the road. The entrance was clean and devoid of the bloodstains that marked the other shops in the area. Perhaps it was a good place to hide.

Just as he was about to make his move, a notification popped up beside the restaurant, startling him.

[There are 27 hungry zombies in the restaurant. If you rush in recklessly, they will definitely have a good meal!]

What was this? Some kind of warning? Christopher Briggs checked the regional chat channel to see if anyone else had seen the same message, but no one seemed to be aware of it. Everyone was either asking for help or sharing their own predicaments.

He looked at the neighboring small supermarket, and another notification appeared.

[There are six zombies and some pure water in the supermarket. If you have a suitable weapon and are strong enough, you might be able to go in and fight!]

Christopher Briggs knew he wasn't strong enough to take on six zombies. He was just an ordinary person. He needed a better plan.

His eyes fell on a building nearby, and another notification appeared.

[Congratulations, not only are there no zombies here, but there is also a level 1 supply box!]

No zombies? And supplies? This was exactly what he needed.

Christopher Briggs checked the zombies around him and noticed one in a motionless state, unable to move or be killed. He had 46 seconds before it regained consciousness.

He estimated that it would take him just 10 seconds to reach the building and close the door. That left him with 36 seconds to act.

He quickly scanned the area, and he was drawn to an explosion-proof police zombie.

As Christopher Briggs approached the police zombie, he noticed the black explosion-proof suit, steel helmet, and shield in its hand. Briggs quickly removed the helmet and realized that the zombie was immovable and couldn't be harmed. However, he still saw how valuable the equipment on the zombie's body was. After putting on the sturdy steel helmet, he struggled to take the explosion shield from the zombie's hands. Upon searching the zombie's body, Briggs only found a tear gas grenade and realized that the surrounding zombies were not particularly threatening. He spotted a zombie carrying a revolver but knew he did not have time to get it. He remembered the zombie's location and quickly made his way to the building. Briggs locked the glass door from the inside and poured polluted water onto it before covering it with a piece of paper.

Just as the countdown reached zero, a swarm of zombie screams erupted outside, but the zombies passed by without noticing Briggs inside. He breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he was finally safe.
