C2 Chapter 2

Christopher Briggs stumbled back and collapsed onto the sofa. It was only then that he realized his hands were shaking uncontrollably due to the sudden surge of adrenaline. His legs were also weak, and he couldn't deny feeling scared of the zombies roaming the streets. It was his first time encountering a zombie, so he was proud of himself for managing to remain relatively calm.

He tried to calm his racing heart and opened the chat channel, which was previously flooded with messages. However, it had become noticeably quieter at this moment. Though people were still conversing, the channel was no longer as active as it was before. The messages now remained on the screen for three or four seconds before slowly disappearing, indicating that some people had already died at the beginning of the game.

Christopher wondered what was going on. He had seen all the zombies on the road were alive, and it was alarming to hear that people had already died. People in the chat were sharing their experiences, asking for help, and complaining about the fast-moving zombies that seemed to catch up to them quickly.

The regional chat channel displayed the survivors' chat content in Christopher's city, including a three-dimensional image of the speaker, their name, height, weight, and other basic information. While under normal circumstances, a girl asking for someone to protect her would have attracted many willing helpers, the current situation was far from normal.

Everyone was fighting to survive, and no one could spare the resources to care for someone else. Moreover, it was dangerous to draw attention to oneself by talking too much in the chat channel since survivors with ulterior motives could easily locate them.

After some time, Christopher realized that the zombies at the door would not rush in, so he retrieved the Level 1 supply box he had seen earlier. He had to stay low and avoid drawing attention to himself to survive. Christopher found a fire axe, a Primary Level Physique Potion, and a bottle of pure water inside the supply box.

Christopher also remembered he had a spatial ring and used it to store all the items he had gathered. He had twelve boxes inside, each able to store the same type of item, and with an unlimited stacking capacity. This meant that if he stored an items that were the same, it would only take up one box. However, the ring could not store items within other items. Christopher stored the explosion shield, steel helmet, fire axe, tear gas, and pure water inside, taking up six spaces and leaving only six more.

His attention was drawn to the Primary Level Physique Potion. It was a yellowish liquid in a vial. Knowing that survivors had 5 stages of strength: Weak, Ordinary, Strong, Extremely Strong and what could be called the very limits of the human body. Taking this potion would raise him from ghd ordinary stage directly to the extremely strong stage. There was no need to think about it or hesitate, he was taking it immediately!

He opened the vial and swallowed its contents. The liquid burned his throat as it went down to his stomach. He could feel the heat spreading into his bloodstream, setting his entire body on fire. He bit his lip, drawing blood as he tried to stifle his screams. It would be dangerous if zombies were attracted by his screams.

After about five minutes, the burning sensation stopped, leaving him feeling energized and full of strength. He lifted the fire ax he had gotten earlier, noting how light it now was in his hands. His senses seemed to have sharpened, especially his hearing, seeing as he suddenly heard a voice shouting.

"Is there anyone who can save me?" It cried out desperately. Christopher froze, listening to the voice continue to shout for help. He could tell from the tone that the person had been shouting for a while.

Christopher strained his ears, trying to locate the source of the voice. It seemed to be coming from outside the window. Slowly and carefully, he made his way to the window, trying not to attract the attention of any zombies that might be lurking nearby.

Peering outside, he saw a woman standing on a rooftop about a hundred meters away, surrounded by a group of zombies. She was wearing a low-cut dinner gown and high heels, completely unsuited for the dangerous environment they were in. Christopher couldn't believe how foolish she was, attracting attention to herself with her screams.

But as he watched, an idea formed in his mind. The zombies seemed to be completely focused on the woman, leaving him an opening to make a sneak attack. However, he was unsure if these zombies would be like the ones in the movies he had seen before. Would they track humans with their sense of smell? Or would they be attracted to sudden movements? He didn't know, and he couldn't afford to make a mistake.

Taking a deep breath, Chris weighed his options carefully. He only had one life, and he couldn't risk it recklessly. He needed to be cautious and plan his next move carefully.

Christopher Briggs carefully observed the situation as a notification appeared once again.

"The zombies are sensitive to sharp sounds. Now is the best time to harvest them!" The notification answered his question perfectly, making dealing with the situation easy. This was his chance to take out seven or eight zombies at once and earn an Energy Crystal that could make him stronger, as previously stated by the system. Equipped with his steel helmet, Explosion Shield, and fire axe, he made his way to the back door of the real estate agent.

While the front door faced the street and was made of glass, the back door was an old security door leading to the inside of the community.

"The security door is old. If you open the door too quickly, there will be a sharp sound of metal rubbing!" warned the prompt that appeared just in time. With caution, Christopher grabbed the doorknob of the anti-theft door, carefully pushed it open, and heard a faint squeak. The sound didn't attract much attention from the zombies, but it did make one pause for a second before being drawn to the screams of a woman nearby.

The woman's cries were getting weaker, but she perked up when she saw Christopher. "Hey, I'm here. Hurry up and save me!" she shouted in excitement. Christopher gave her a thumbs up but didn't let his guard down, holding the Explosion Shield in his left hand and the fire axe in his right. As he moved forward, the woman's loud screams attracted the attention of the zombies, but he managed to slip behind the group without getting caught.

Now, he had to be careful and make sure not to get bitten or caught by the zombies, lest he become one himself. He ignored the woman's continued screams and focused on the group of zombies in front of him, intent on taking them all out with a single hit. With his Explosion Shield protecting his chest, he swung his ax down towards the back of the nearest zombie's head.
