C16 This Grandson of Mine Is Definitely Mine!

Upon entering, Su Xue immediately conveyed her heartfelt apologies to Chen Qingchuan, almost as if she were trying to rekindle an old flame. Yet, Chen Qingchuan was convinced that Su Xue, with her inherent pride, could not possibly make such a decision.

Indeed, that was the case. Su Xue soon clarified to him, "I've looked into it, and the 10 million was indeed transferred by you. The 10 million from Liu Zhen was sent to a card I arranged for you, but I forgot to give you that card."

"I had the wrong idea about you before, and I even mocked you repeatedly. I want to say I'm sorry for that," she added.

Chen Qingchuan smiled and motioned for Su Xue to sit down, and she took a seat on the couch. After pouring her a cup of tea, Chen Qingchuan stepped back and perched on the edge of his desk. "You surely didn't come just for this."

She knew herself that well? Su Xue felt an inexplicable emotion stirring within her.

But she didn't dwell on it, and instead told Chen Qingchuan, "Yes, the main reason I'm here is to let you know that I can only repay the 10 million in six months. However, I'll be paying interest monthly until the full principal is returned."

Chen Qingchuan dismissed the idea with a wave of his hand, "There's no need. I told you when I gave it to you, that 10 million was to help you out. You don't need to pay it back."

Su Xue's pride wouldn't allow her to accept the money, and she immediately declined.

But Chen Qingchuan was evidently even prouder, "I've never taken back money I've given away. You're not more special than anyone else. Why should there be an exception?"

Su Xue was at a loss for words. Why indeed? Because she was Chen Qingchuan's... ex-wife? She couldn't bring herself to say it.

Chen Qingchuan had anticipated this, which is why he delivered a decisive blow, leaving Su Xue with no comeback.

Though she couldn't voice it, her resolve remained unshaken; she was determined to repay the debt.

After discussing the repayment, Su Xue, cradling her teacup, began reminiscing about the past with Chen Qingchuan.

It wasn't about reminiscing; she felt compelled to apologize to Chen Qingchuan for her past words and actions.

"When it comes to apologizing, I feel like I owe you so many apologies, I don't even know where to begin..."

A smile spread across Su Xue's lovely face, though it was tinged with sadness.

Chen Qingchuan smiled back, his expression forgiving. "Then let's not bring it up. I never took it personally, anyway."

Su Xue gave a small 'hm,' content that Chen Qingchuan understood her remorse. There was no need to apologize for each individual incident.

Having addressed the issue and offered her apology, Su Xue saw no reason to linger, so she rose to leave.

Yet, as she reached the doorway, she paused, standing still for a moment before turning to look back at Chen Qingchuan.

"There's been a question weighing on my mind all night. Could you help me clear it up?"

Chen Qingchuan nodded, having a good idea of what was troubling Su Xue, and indeed, it was as he suspected.

Su Xue then asked, "Why... why did you marry me in the first place?"

Su Xue was well aware that Chen Qingchuan didn't love her—neither three years ago nor now. Given his esteemed status back then, she couldn't fathom why someone as distinguished as Chen Qingchuan would willingly marry into her family and endure three years of mockery.

Looking into Su Xue's eyes, which were desperate for an answer, Chen Qingchuan responded truthfully, "Because of my family's Great-Grandfather."

...

That evening, after work, Su Xue returned home for dinner, where Zhu Yuhong and Su Jun were also present.

The meal was bland, and to make matters worse, the mother and son duo kept grumbling:

"Liu Zhen is nothing but trouble. If not for him, why would my sister have divorced my brother-in-law? He's a real piece of work!"

"And that Chen guy is no saint either. He didn't just suddenly become wealthy; he must have been loaded from the start. But for three whole years, did he ever contribute a penny? Did he lift a finger to help your sister? Who knows what kind of mischief he's been brewing in his mind!"

Zhu Yuhong and Su Jun were relentless in their criticism, convinced that there wasn't a single good soul in the world, just a bunch of bad seeds!

Initially, Su Xue was merely irritated, but she could bear it. However, their incessant bickering became too much for her, and she finally reached her breaking point.

"Do you know why Chen Qingchuan married me? It was because of his grandfather. His grandfather and my grandmother were once lovers, but family opposition kept them apart, and they each started their own families. Still, Grandpa Chen cherished those old feelings, so he insisted that Chen Qingchuan marry into our family to fulfill his long-held wish and to support us!"

"When Chen Qingchuan first arrived, he genuinely wanted to help us. But how did you treat him? Everyone dismissed him as worthless, constantly calling him trash and an idiot. Put yourself in his shoes—would you still want to help?"

"Now that he's wealthy and a successful CEO, you're eager for me to reconcile with him one moment, then you turn around and accuse him of harboring ill intentions the next. Do you have no shame? How can you be so utterly disgraceful?!"

With that, Su Xue slammed her chopsticks down on the table and stormed upstairs, unable to bear the sight of them any longer.

She locked herself in her bedroom and collapsed onto the bed.

A muffled voice emerged, "Su Xue, you're no saint yourself. You once saw him as nothing but trash too. How can you have the audacity to criticize others now..."

Outside the door, Zhu Yuhong, having heard Su Xue's self-reproach, tiptoed and stealthily made her way downstairs.

Finding Su Jun, she let out a sigh, "It's no wonder your sister lost her temper. We're to blame for all of this."

"I was blinded by greed, hoping your sister would marry up. I never gave Chen Qingchuan a chance, always finding fault and mocking him, which led you to mimic me, calling him an idiot."

"Your sister has a point. Who would be happy to make an effort when it's not reciprocated? It's not fair to blame others. We should just blame ourselves, the two of us..."

Su Jun wasn't one for deep reflection. All he knew was that his wealthy brother-in-law had been driven away.

Then, Zhu Yuhong chimed in, "Little Jun, why not go look for your brother-in-law again? Maybe he's just waiting for an opportunity to reconcile with your sister."

Su Jun's face was etched with distress. "I'd rather not. I already told him that anyone who begs him is a dog's grandson."

"What's more important, your pride or your sister's happiness? Besides, if you manage to bring your brother-in-law back, you won't have to worry for the rest of your life. He's loaded. Aren't you jealous of those who drive Lamborghinis?"

The mention of the Lamborghini sparked a gleam in Su Jun's eyes, growing brighter by the second. Finally, he sprang to his feet, determined. It seemed no one could hold him back from taking on that role if it meant securing his sister's happiness.
