C8 You Have to Suffer the Consequences of Your Actions!

Liu Changhe ultimately agreed to the deal for 30 million, having let slip an unnecessary comment during the negotiations.

He had been reluctant to accept the offer. His company, valued at over 300 million, was being reduced to a mere 30 million. How was this any different from daylight robbery? Determined to fight back, he relied on his extensive social connections, confident he could resolve the issue.

But upon learning that the Daming Group was involved, Liu Changhe was utterly flabbergasted, devoid of any illusions.

Zhao Hongwu put it bluntly: "The Eldest Young Master has been more than fair. If it were up to me, you'd have been in jail by now, and your Shengliu Group would have been easily devoured by me. I wouldn't have left you even a scrap of bone!"

Liu Changhe could discern that she wasn't exaggerating; she was telling the harsh truth, leaving him no choice but to concede.

Having 30 million for retirement was far preferable to spending his twilight years in prison eating cornbread.

The transfer of the company's legal and ownership rights was swiftly completed, and Liu Changhe successfully secured his 30 million. Yet, this windfall brought him to the brink of tears, especially when Chen Qingchuan had him confined—

"You'll be locked up for a day and write a 20,000-word self-critique, reflecting on the illegal and disorderly actions you've committed over the years. Show genuine remorse. If your attitude isn't sincere, I'll hand you over to the police and let the law deal with you!"

Liu Changhe found Chen Qingchuan's actions tyrannical and utterly unreasonable.

His company had been taken from him in what felt like a brazen heist, and now he was being forced to write a self-critique. On what grounds was he being treated this way? It was downright oppressive!

What he failed to realize was that he was reaping the consequences of his son Liu Zhen's actions.

Meanwhile, Liu Zhen was still striving to bring honor to his family.

Standing at the doorstep of Su Xue's mother's home, Liu Zhen considered the gift box in his hands.

Inside was a diamond necklace worth three million. It was a significant investment, but he believed it was worth every penny. Today, he planned to use this lavish gift to overwhelm Su Xue's mother, to win her over so she would agree to let Su Xue be with him.

Certainly, his intentions weren't solely focused on Su Xue; there were deeper calculations at play.

He had analyzed the situation beforehand. Zhao Hongwu claimed she didn't like Su Xue, yet she personally delivered the invitation, a task that was obviously mandated by the new CEO of the Daming Group branch. It seemed quite likely that the new CEO was interested in Su Xue.

If that were true, his chances of winning Su Xue's affection were practically nil, given his lack of competitiveness.

Thus, he resolved to ingratiate himself with Su Xue's mother, determined to secure her consent for Su Xue's hand in marriage that very day.

By doing so, if Su Xue ended up with the branch president in the future, the Su family would feel indebted to him. He could exploit this sense of guilt to extract greater benefits from the Daming Group.

And if the new CEO didn't pursue Su Xue, no harm done. He would be the lucky one to win her over. How delightful that would be!

It was a win-win decision, so he made his move!

Having composed himself, Liu Zhen, with a gift box in hand and a smile on his face, knocked on the door of Su Xue's mother's home.

That afternoon, just past two, Chen Qingchuan received a call from Su Xue's mother, Zhu Yuhong, asking him to come over for a discussion.

A conversation was in order. Despite the mutual disdain between son-in-law and mother-in-law, and with divorce on the horizon, a proper resolution was needed. Chen Qingchuan had Hongwu select a parting gift, and he brought it along as a gesture of goodwill.

Upon entering Zhu Yuhong's residence, Chen Qingchuan, gift in tow, greeted her with a respectful "Hello, Auntie."

He addressed her as such not out of ignorance of protocol, but at Zhu Yuhong's insistence, as she refused to acknowledge him as her son-in-law.

Meanwhile, Zhu Yuhong continued her yoga routine on the mat, embodying grace and dignity.

As for Chen Qingchuan, she treated him as if he were invisible, utterly disregarding his presence.

Chen Qingchuan had grown accustomed to Zhu Yuhong's behavior, so he simply stood by quietly.

After about ten minutes, Zhu Yuhong completed her yoga session.

She approached the table, picked up a towel, and delicately dabbed the sweat from her forehead. Her every gesture exuded an air of nobility.

Of course, Chen Qingchuan privately considered this superficial display of elegance to be nothing more than pretentiousness.

Taking a sip of mineral water, Zhu Yuhong finally turned her attention to Chen Qingchuan.

"Give me a figure. How much do you want to divorce Su Xue?"

Her directness was striking. She didn't bother with small talk and cut straight to the chase.

This was no surprise to Chen Qingchuan. Zhu Yuhong was that kind of person; she wouldn't waste words on someone she disapproved of. He had once witnessed a construction worker ask her for directions. Although Zhu Yuhong knew the way, she feigned ignorance simply because she looked down on him, believing his simplicity beneath her dignity. Therefore, she felt no need to engage further.

To the high-and-mighty Zhu Yuhong, Chen Qingchuan was probably no different from that construction worker.

But none of that mattered now. He was here to discuss the divorce, and as for the money, he didn't want it.

"Auntie, I don't need any money. I'm willing to..."

Chen Qingchuan tried to say he would divorce Su Xue, but Zhu Yuhong didn't let him finish.

She glared at Chen Qingchuan with contempt, "You don't need money? Then why are you clinging to our Xiaoxue? If you don't need money, why did you trick that naive old man into letting you marry Xiaoxue?"

"Let me tell you something, Mr. Chen, don't act high and mighty with me. I know exactly what you're after!"

"All you want is to cling to this comfortable, wealthy life, isn't it? You're after Xiaoxue's beauty, aren't you? You just want to drag this out, refusing to divorce until you can take it to court and claim half of Xiaoxue's family fortune. Well, you're living in a fantasy. You're deluding yourself!"

"Our family has extensive connections in society. Su Xue even has a cousin who is the chief judge at the court. If this divorce goes to court, don't even think about getting the upper hand!"

"Take a good look at yourself. What kind of trash do you think you are? Clinging on for dear life, refusing to divorce? That's not happening! Here's a piece of advice: while I'm still open to discussing terms, you'd best take the offer. Otherwise, once I lose my patience... well, you'll regret it!"

Chen Qingchuan simply smirked, offering no response to Zhu Yuhong's biting mockery.

After all, the decision to divorce was already made; engaging in further argument would be pointless.

So, without further ado, he placed the gift he had brought onto the table.

He intended to convey to Zhu Yuhong that he consented to the divorce, and the gift bore no special significance—it was merely a token of respect from a junior to an elder, acknowledging their acquaintance.

Zhu Yuhong, however, clearly did not see it that way. She gave the gift box a disdainful glance and scoffed—

"What's this? You think a cheap trinket will sweeten me up and make me beg you to stay?"

"Keep dreaming! I, Zhu Yuhong, will never accept a worthless man like you as my son-in-law. Your pathetic offering means nothing to me!"

Trash? This 'trash' might just be a tad more costly than she thinks!
