C83 Say You Are a Pig
Fann Tong and his companions watched Yu Kun's ranking climb with astonishment. Suddenly, an Inner Sect disciple turned, eyes wide, and announced, "Look, Senior Sister Yaen has arrived!"
"Senior Sister Yaen!"
Several Inner Sect disciples quickly spun around and respectfully greeted the approaching disciple with a bow.
Senior Sister Yaen was none other than Yaen Hongling. Yet, at that moment, dark circles marred her usually bright eyes.
She acknowledged the Inner Sect disciples with a cool nod and made her way directly to the Heavenly Pass Altar.
Yaen Hongling had been feeling particularly troubled these past few days. Despite her profound disappointment in Yaen Changge, she was shocked to learn of his one-month imprisonment.
But more than Yaen Changge's situation, Yu Kun was the source of her inner turmoil.
Yaen Hongling couldn't fathom why she was so invested in Yu Kun's affairs. She also had the nagging feeling that Yu Kun had been subjected to some injustice.
"I need to set these thoughts aside for now. My priority is to conquer the Heavenly Pass Altar. With my current capabilities, I'm confident I can climb higher in the rankings."
With that resolve, Yaen Hongling approached the Heavenly Pass Altar.
An Elder to the left declared, "The Heavenly Pass Altar is closed for the day. Entry is barred to all except those currently undertaking the trial."
Yaen Hongling was taken aback.
A closure of the Heavenly Pass Altar was a rare occurrence, but she refrained from questioning it.
Upon reaching the stone tablet, her gaze locked onto a name that stood out starkly, its position steadily ascending.
"Yu Kun?"
The memory of what had transpired at the Test Square flashed through her mind.
"How could he ascend to the top four hundred Inner Sect disciples without even being able to condense his Martial Soul? If he's done this through Astral Energy, then his power must be formidable."
The thought was almost beyond belief.
Yet, even more pressing to Yaen Hongling was the fact that Yu Kun was inside the Heavenly Pass Altar at that very moment.
Puzzled, she lingered for a moment before turning away and leaving the Heavenly Pass Altar behind.
Back at the Test Square, Yaen Changge had taken several jabs at Yu Kun. It nearly resulted in Yu Kun being ousted from the Flying Cloud Sect. Encountering Yu Kun now would certainly be uncomfortable for her.
Thus, Yaen Hongling wasted no time and quickly departed.
As it turned out, she wasn't the only one grappling with discomfort. Fann Tong was in an even more awkward position. He had assumed he could thoroughly disgrace Yu Kun and had gone out of his way to taunt him. Fann Tong had barely made it into the top four hundred and fifty, while Yu Kun had already secured a spot within the top four hundred.
"Still, no matter how skilled he becomes, he's nothing but trash at the Qi Refining Stage," Fann Tong muttered under his breath, seething with resentment. Suddenly, he overheard an Inner Sect disciple exclaim, "Look, his name has stopped moving!"
Looking up, Fann Tong saw Yu Kun's name settle at the three hundred sixty-fifth position.
This meant that on his first attempt at the Heavenly Barrier Altar, Yu Kun had landed the 365th rank in the Inner Sect—a commendable feat compared to his peers who were new to the Inner Sect.
Bai Qingfeng, after his initial foray into the Heavenly Pass Altar, found himself at rank five hundred. He knew he had to undergo rigorous training to forge his Martial Soul before he could hope to climb the ranks.
Fann Tong's mouth hung open, but no words came out.
Just then, the Heavenly Pass Altar lit up, and Yu Kun emerged.
Spotting Yu Kun, Fann Tong's first instinct was to flee, but Yu Kun had already caught sight of him. "Why the rush to leave? Let's see where you stand among the Inner Sect disciples," Yu Kun called out to him.
Fann Tong was too intimidated to respond.
Yu Kun, paying him no mind, approached the stone tablet.
"Rank 365 for me. Looks like I need to battle through a few more rounds. Now, where are you? Ah, rank four hundred and fifty—you've made some strides."
With a pat on Fann Tong's shoulder and a grin, Yu Kun offered his congratulations, "Well, I must say, you've improved since the last time!"
Fann Tong stood there, the epitome of awkwardness, as silence enveloped the Inner Sect disciples around them.
Fann Tong clenched his jaw and barked, "What do you think you are? A mere Qi Refining Stage warrior."
Without a word, Yu Kun unleashed the force of his Martial Soul.
Upon witnessing the Leviathan-roc Martial Soul, Fann Tong's eyes bulged in shock.
"You can actually manifest a Martial Soul?"
Yu Kun chuckled. "You're implying I can't manifest a Martial Soul. Perhaps there's a slight glitch with the Flying Cloud Tower, but that hasn't stopped me from manifesting my Martial Soul."
Fann Tong shuddered, terror rippling through him.
Yu Kun had indeed manifested a Martial Soul, making him a bona fide Inner Sect disciple. Ranked 365th, his power towered above Fann Tong's! In essence, Yu Kun could easily take his life.
Recalling his earlier taunts, Fann Tong shook even more violently.
With a nonchalant tone, Yu Kun reminded, "Don't forget our wager. You said you're a pig!"
Fann Tong blurted out in haste, "You're a pig!"
Yu Kun rolled his eyes in frustration and snapped, "I meant for you to say that you're a pig!"
Fann Tong nodded frantically, repeating, "You're a pig!"
Yu Kun's expression darkened as he corrected, "You're calling me a pig!"
Still quivering, Fann Tong stuttered, "You're a pig."
Yu Kun couldn't help but think Fann Tong's fear had dulled his wits.
Casually pointing into the distance, Yu Kun instructed, "Now, go over there and bellow with your Astral Energy that Fann Tong is a pig!"
Obediently, Fann Tong dashed off and, with his Astral Energy amplified, he bellowed, "Fann Tong is a pig! Fann Tong is a pig! Fann Tong is a pig!"
Satisfied, Yu Kun grinned and clapped his hands, "Well done. Come back now. And remember, if I couldn't even manifest a Martial Soul, I wouldn't stand a chance against any Inner Sect disciple! Don't ever forget that."
Fann Tong could only nod incessantly, not daring to defy him.
He had struggled to slay the Roaring War Bear, barely securing the 450th rank. Now, it seemed laughable; Yu Kun could snuff out the Roaring War Bear with ease.
Fann Tong suffered humiliation. Establishing himself among the disciples of the Inner Sect proved to be a formidable challenge.
Nevertheless, the blame for this situation lay squarely on Fann Tong's own missteps. There was nothing the others could do.
