C7 Law Enforcement
As soon as Lin Yun stepped into the bath, the ferocious potency of the Marrow Cleansing Liquid surged through his pores and into his body. Waves of excruciating pain crashed over him, turning his eyes a bloodshot red in an instant.
The sensation of the medicinal strength gnawing at him was like countless ants feasting on his flesh. The combination of numbness and searing agony forced a pained scream from his lips.
A sensation akin to being consumed by flames enveloped him, and instinctively, his muscles tensed as he fought against the overwhelming torment.
"What's wrong, Young Master?" Meng's voice, laced with panic, came from the courtyard as she frantically knocked on the door upon hearing Lin Yun's cries. Despite her urgency, Lin Yun had already locked the door to prevent her intrusion.
"Meng, leave me be! No matter what sounds you hear, do not enter!" Lin Yun bellowed.
Meng, desperate with worry, could do nothing but pace anxiously outside. Lin Yun's commands were law to her; she would heed his words, no matter the circumstance.
Amidst the harrowing pain, Lin Yun drew upon the Heart-cleansing Pill's clarifying effects to concentrate on the Demonic Heavenly Profound Scripture. Such intense cultivation was not meant for the faint of heart.
But Lin Yun understood the harsh reality—if he wished to survive in this world, he had no choice but to withstand the pain. Within the Mystic Moon Sect, danger was ever-present, with some bold enough to poison him in plain sight.
Without the means to defend himself, he was as good as dead.
He must endure.
Lin Yun watched in stark clarity as his skin began to slough off, revealing the raw flesh beneath. In the confines of the tub, he transformed into a blood-soaked figure.
This was Stage One of the Demonic Heavenly Profound Scripture. Only by shedding his frail skin could he forge a new, resilient layer.
With Lin Yun's guidance, the Marrow Cleansing Liquid's formidable medicinal power set to work, reconstructing his skin. He could faintly sense his cells reorganizing and merging—a truly miraculous transformation.
Time lost meaning as he teetered on the brink of mental collapse from the pain, but at last, his skin was reborn.
Lin Yun's eyes snapped open, a brilliant light flickering within them. With a thunderous roar, a divine force burst forth, shattering the bathtub to pieces.
His skin, now as delicate and pale as a newborn's, belied the extraordinary defense it possessed.
"At last, I've achieved the Initial Stage of Death Proof," Lin Yun murmured, admiring the subtle glow of his skin with a satisfied smile.
Furthermore, having absorbed so much of the Marrow Cleansing Pill's power, his cultivation had stealthily advanced from Power Refinement Grade One to Grade Four!
His power had surged dramatically.
Clasping his fists tightly, he inhaled deeply, reveling in the relentless power coursing through him. The sensation of wielding such might was intoxicating.
Dressed and composed, Lin Yun opened the door to find Meng outside, her tears a testament to her concern. He chuckled softly, "Why the tears? I haven't kicked the bucket yet!"
"But you sounded like you were in so much pain," Meng replied, dabbing away her tears, her eyes widening in astonishment. "Young Master, your skin—it's so much fairer now."
"Perhaps," Lin Yun said with a smile, offering no further explanation.
After consulting with Meng, Lin Yun realized he had spent over four hours in the bathtub. It was highly likely that Wang Dana, whom he had bound and brought here, had come to by now.
Lin Yun pushed open the decrepit wooden door and, sure enough, was met with the sight of Wang Dana, his face contorted with rage in the dank and musty woodshed, resembling a rabid dog ready to lash out at any moment.
"Lin Yun, you'd better release me! Or you'll regret it!" Wang Dana bellowed.
"You seem to be confused about the predicament you're in," Lin Yun said with a light chuckle, a glint of coldness flickering in his eyes.
Accompanied by a sharp crack, Lin Yun flicked his wrist, and Wang Dana's arm snapped. The intense pain caused Wang Dana to break out in a cold sweat, his complexion ashen as he stammered, "Lin Yun, have you lost your mind?"
He hadn't anticipated that the once timid and feeble Lin Yun could exhibit such brutality.
"Insult me again, and I'll render your arm useless."
A chilling smile played on Lin Yun's lips as he spoke softly, "Even with a broken arm, you still have legs. And at the very least, you're still breathing, aren't you?"
"Young Master, what exactly do you want?" Wang Dana asked, his voice laced with fear as he faced Lin Yun's menacing demeanor. "I've never crossed you, have I? Could you possibly spare my life?"
"Had you been this cooperative earlier, you could have avoided all this suffering," Lin Yun said, his expression turning icy. "Now, tell me who instructed you to use Bone Corrosion Grass against me?"
At Lin Yun's inquiry, Wang Dana's face twisted with denial. "I didn't do such a thing!"
"Feigning ignorance, are we?" Lin Yun's sneer was sharp as he swiftly grasped Wang Dana's throat, the pressure nearly suffocating him. "I'm not fond of wasting time. Speak now, or I'll end your life."
"No! I'll tell you everything!" Wang Dana gasped for air, terror seizing him. "It was Ding Xu, an Inner Sect disciple from the Law Enforcement Hall, who ordered the poisoning. He claimed that since Bone Corrosion Grass is both colorless and tasteless, you'd never suspect me."
Lin Yun murmured in surprise, "Ding Xu?" This name was unfamiliar to him; even the original host's memories held no trace of any interaction with this person.
With no known grievances between them, why would Ding Xu target him?
A sudden realization struck Lin Yun, and he asked sharply, "Who is Ding Xu's master among the elders?"
"He's a disciple of Elder Qingfeng!" Wang Dana replied, his voice quivering with dread.
Lin Yun exhaled, "I see." The visage of a sect elder, distinguished by a prominent nose and a cold demeanor, came to mind. Elder Qingfeng had been among those who opposed Lin Yun's induction into the Mystic Moon Sect.
The pieces fell into place; the assailant was one of the Mystic Moon Sect's very own elders.
"Young Master, I've told you everything. May I ask for mercy?" Wang Dana inquired, his tone tentative.
Lin Yun's laughter rang out, cold and mocking. "Do you really think Ding Xu would let you live after you've spilled the beans?"
Panic flared in Wang Dana's eyes as he realized the gravity of his situation. Lin Yun's gaze was murderous, and as Wang Dana instinctively thought to flee, Lin Yun's grip tightened, crushing his throat in an instant.
As Lin Yun gazed upon Wang Dana's increasingly frigid corpse, his own complexion turned noticeably pale. He fought back the nausea clawing at his throat, forcibly quelling the terror and restlessness that threatened to overwhelm him.
Killing someone for the first time was an experience he found profoundly unsettling.
Despite being accustomed to the sight of blood from his past life's surgeries, nothing could have prepared him for the complex emotions of taking a life with his own hands—a sensation beyond the realm of words.
Lin Yun remained motionless for an extended period, eventually managing to soothe the turmoil within.
In this harsh world, it was kill or be killed.
To survive, Lin Yun knew he must swiftly adapt to the ruthless laws of this land.
"What are you planning to do?" At that moment, a cacophony of noise and Meng's fearful cries echoed from outside the woodshed. Lin Yun's brow furrowed as he murmured to himself, "They've arrived sooner than expected."
"We're from the Law Enforcement Hall, here to apprehend the murderer. Everyone else, step aside!"
"Hey, ugly girl, call Lin Yun out now, or we'll demolish this shabby place of yours!"
Suddenly, four young disciples clad in light blue attire appeared in the courtyard, each sporting a badge with the twin swords emblem of the Mystic Moon Sect's Law Enforcement Hall.
They looked hostile, their eyes glinting with a barely concealed intent to kill.
Within the Mystic Moon Sect, it was common knowledge that those who made it into the Law Enforcement Hall were cold and heartless, having taken many lives. This reputation was precisely why the Hall's disciples commanded such respect and fear.
"What brings you to my doorstep?"
Caught off guard, Meng watched as Lin Yun slowly opened the door and stepped out, wearing a serene smile.
"Lin Yun, you've broken the Mystic Moon Sect's rules, causing chaos in the Pill Hall! You even assaulted and abducted the pill room's manager. Do you confess to these crimes?" demanded the lead disciple of the Law Enforcement Hall.
An observant onlooker might have noticed this disciple's furtive glances around the courtyard, as if searching for someone, his face betraying a flicker of anxiety.
Lin Yun, catching the disciple's odd behavior, silently speculated on his motives.
With a light chuckle, Lin Yun responded, "When have I ever disrupted the pill room's order? I haven't assaulted or abducted anyone."
The accusation seemed to ignite the Law Enforcement Hall disciples' anger as they retorted, "How dare you deny it?"
"No, please don't misinterpret my words."
To their astonishment, Lin Yun, under their bewildered stares, dragged Wang Dana's body out from the woodshed and dropped it at their feet.
A chilling smile spread across Lin Yun's face as he spoke softly, "I merely killed him. Therefore, any accusations of assault or abduction are utterly baseless."
Though the sun blazed overhead, a bone-deep chill enveloped the Law Enforcement Hall disciples, as if the midday heat had been eclipsed by the shadow of death.
