C10 Participating in the Auction

After breakfast, Bai Jiuyan, with a hint of mystery in her eyes, led Mo Fann into the bedroom. Mo Fann's heart fluttered with anticipation, thinking that perhaps Bai Jiuyan was finally ready to engage in the intimate acts common between husband and wife. But instead, she simply whispered excitedly in his ear, "Honey, we're about to strike it rich!"

Mo Fann, well aware of the situation, chuckled to himself yet feigned surprise. "What happened?"

Bai Jiuyan placed her delicate finger over her lips and spoke with an air of secrecy, "Honey, last night I showed the bead you gave me to a friend who's quite the connoisseur. Guess what... he estimated its value, and it looks like we're really going to hit the jackpot this time!"

...

After some playful teasing, Bai Jiuyan revealed her true intentions for taking Mo Fann to the auction. Mo Fann, ever the dutiful husband, readily agreed. After all, improving their life together was a goal too good to pass up. He hadn't anticipated that a simple trip to the forest outside the city to find healing items for his wife would lead to such a fortuitous find. The Demonic Pill would serve as their first significant windfall, a milestone worth remembering.

As night fell, the city of Erostey was aglow with lights.

"We've arrived, Honey," Bai Jiuyan said, tapping Mo Fann's shoulder to draw his attention away from the documents he was engrossed in.

Since that morning, Mo Fann had been scouring the internet for information on various demon beasts. It dawned on him that if such things could be profitable, he should capitalize on that, not only to improve his own life and build his wealth but to better protect Bai Jiuyan.

Snapped out of his research by Bai Jiuyan's nudge, Mo Fann looked at the grand entrance of the auction house, momentarily lost in thought. Just days before, he was nothing more than an average college graduate in Erostey. Yet now, in the span of a single day, their lives had taken an extraordinary turn, granting them access to this opulent venue.

The couple, holding the tickets Bai Jiuyan had thoughtfully prepared, stepped into the auction house alongside the elegantly dressed crowd. Mo Fann took in his surroundings, and he noticed Bai Jiuyan doing the same, her brow furrowed in concern.

Something was off.

She had often slipped into auctions incognito to observe, and thus she recognized most of the city's elite. But tonight, there were many new faces she didn't recognize. Take, for instance, the line of men in crisp suits and dark sunglasses ahead of them, moving with a disciplined solemnity she had never seen before, all of them exuding the aura of the Profound Level.

Cursing inwardly, Bai Jiuyan realized she had been too preoccupied with her wedding preparations to keep an eye on the city's affairs. What would they do if something went awry tonight?

Her observations also noted the presence of the Lee family among the bidders. Her heart grew heavy. The Lee family, one of the city's four major powerhouses, was known for their vast wealth. Their interest in tonight's auction items suggested that the Demonic Pill's influence was far greater than she had anticipated.

Then, a snide voice cut through the murmur of the crowd from behind, "Well, if it isn't our school belle, Miss Bai. How bold of you to show up here after marrying a pauper like Mo Fann. Can you even afford anything at this auction?"

Bai Jiuyan turned to face the speaker, a flash of disdain in her gaze.

The man in question was none other than Wang Jue, the scion of the prestigious Wang family.

The Wangs, much like the Lees, were one of Erostey City's top four families. As the junior Wang, Jue had shared four years of college with Mo Fann.

Yet, despite his persistent pursuit, he had been bested by Mo Fann in their rivalry for her affections. Bearing a grudge against the couple ever since, he hadn't even shown up to their wedding.

It was just her luck to run into him here.

Bai Jiuyan frowned, uninterested in any entanglement with him. She just wanted to usher Mo Fann quickly into the venue.

Mo Fann glanced back at Wang Jue with a frosty stare, then, taking Bai Jiuyan's arm, he dismissed Wang Jue without another look.

Wang Jue, however, seemed oblivious to their disdain.

Upon laying eyes on Bai Jiuyan again, his gaze involuntarily betrayed his lecherous intentions.

Back in their university days, Bai Jiuyan had been the unrivaled campus belle at Hainan University, renowned for her pure and stunning beauty.

Now as a young bride, she radiated an even more enchanting allure.

Dressed in a designer collaboration shirt dress, Bai Jiuyan looked both sharp and alluring, her delicate makeup enhancing her natural glow. The sparkling high heels she wore accentuated her long, fair legs.

Even though her outfit was modestly priced, it couldn't diminish Bai Jiuyan's striking beauty.

'Damn... How did Mo Fann get so lucky with such a catch?'

Swallowing hard, Wang Jue hurriedly stepped in front of the couple.

"We were classmates for years; can't you take a little joke? Mo Fann, don't be so petty," he chided.

Mo Fann regarded Wang Jue with the indifference one might reserve for an inanimate object.

His gaze silenced Wang Jue, who involuntarily shuddered.

Before Wang Jue could pinpoint the source of his unease, Mo Fann spoke up coolly.

"Whether we have the means to attend this auction is really none of your concern, Young Master Wang."

Mo Fann spared no courtesy for Wang Jue.

"Exactly, it's none of your business!" Bai Jiuyan chimed in, her brow furrowed.

"Miss Bai, let's not be hasty. Weren't we classmates for four years? Just for the sake of your beauty, if there's anything you fancy at the auction, just let me know. I'll buy it for you," Wang Jue said with a sleazy grin, his eyes brazenly roaming over Bai Jiuyan as if she were merchandise up for bidding.

Bai Jiuyan let out a cold laugh.

If it weren't for her husband's presence, she would've already dealt with Wang Jue's insolence.

Little did she know, Mo Fann shared her sentiment.

"Master Wang, if you're at a loose end, why don't you head inside? If there's something I want, I have someone to foot the bill. No need for your concern."

Wang Jue's expression soured, but before he could retort, a voice from behind interrupted.

"Ah, Young Master Wang is also here? What a pleasant surprise. What's this delightful conversation about?"

A young man with a menacing air and a slicked-back hairstyle emerged from behind Wang Jue.

It was Lee Jun.

Wang Jue spun around, visibly startled by Lee Jun's appearance.

Why was he here?

Wasn't he the same man who, having recently lost his beloved pet, was causing a stir among Erostey City's elite, offering a five million bounty for the death of the demon tiger?
