C11 The Auction Began
The Wang and Lee families had been at odds for years. Knowing that Lee Jun was in a foul mood after losing his beloved pet, Wang Jue preferred to steer clear of any confrontation. Better to avoid trouble when possible!
He forced a laugh.
"Hehe, just exchanging pleasantries with an old acquaintance. Pleasure to see you, Young Master Lee. I'll be heading inside now."
With a wave, he hurried his entourage into the auction hall.
Bai Jiuyan and Mo Fann were left feeling somewhat bewildered.
But the couple was relieved to have escaped the pestering, and they too entered the hall.
Lee Jun watched them go, his gaze dark and unreadable.
...
Once inside, Bai Jiuyan and Mo Fann didn't have to wait long before the auction began.
Several items came and went.
At last, the Demonic Pill was presented, and the auctioneer announced with palpable excitement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for: a fresh Earth Level Demonic Beast Pill. Bidding starts at fifty million!"
Bai Jiuyan's grip on Mo Fann's hand tightened, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Fifty million was a mere trifle to her, but for them as a couple, it represented a fortune that could catapult them into the middle class.
Mo Fann was momentarily speechless.
'Slaying Demonic Beasts is this lucrative? Maybe I should do this full-time. Would I ever worry about providing for my wife then?'
As expected, the Demonic Pill caught many an eye. No sooner had the auctioneer called the price than bids began to climb.
"Sixty million."
"Seventy million!"
Wang Jue, seated ahead of the couple, entered the fray. But as he bid, he turned and gave Bai Jiuyan a greasy wink, flaunting his bid like a trophy.
Bai Jiuyan seethed, taking deep breaths to calm herself.
She patted Mo Fann's arm reassuringly.
"Darling, don't let it get to you. Think of it as that fool throwing money our way."
Mo Fann's gaze fixed on the back of Wang Jue's head, his eyes narrowing.
He wasn't one to start a fight over something like this, but if Wang Jue crossed the line with Bai Jiuyan, he wasn't sure he could hold back.
The bidding war escalated.
The Demonic Pill's price soared to ninety million.
Then, to the astonishment of all, Wang Jue stood up, turned to Bai Jiuyan, and made a grand gesture of a heart with his arms.
"One hundred million! For the lovely Miss Bai!"
Murmurs rippled through the crowd.
Wang Jue was known as the Wang family's spendthrift, but this was beyond belief. The Demonic Pill was valuable, sure, but a hundred million?
Mo Fann couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity.
He scoffed, arms crossed, watching Wang Jue's spectacle unfold.
Bai Jiuyan, unfazed by the provocation, simply rolled her eyes and snuggled closer to Mo Fann.
Just then, a woman in a white suit stood up, her sign raised, her voice clear and resonant.
"One hundred and fifty million."
The bid sent a shockwave through the hall, followed by a surge of excitement.
Such audacity was rare indeed, and the woman met the crowd's astonished stares with a serene smile.
Wang Jue was on edge. His recent cultivation efforts had hit a snag, and he'd been stuck at the mid-Profound Level for ages. He was dead set on acquiring the Demonic Pill and wouldn't dream of yielding it to anyone else.
"One hundred and sixty million!"
The woman ahead of him remained unfazed, her eyebrows not twitching an inch as she calmly upped the ante, "One hundred and eighty million!"
Bidding any higher would blow his budget, but Wang Jue couldn't bear the thought of defeat.
Especially not with Bai Jiuyan looking on.
With trembling fingers, Wang Jue forced out a bid, "One hundred and ninety million!" That was his limit; he couldn't possibly go any higher.
Then, out of nowhere, Lee Jun, who had been quiet since his arrival, stirred.
With a stern look, he lifted his bidding card and announced a figure that silenced the room.
"Two hundred million!"
The auction hall fell into a stunned silence.
Wang Jue glared in Lee Jun's direction, his eyes reddening with fury. Two hundred million? Had the man lost his mind? No Demonic Pill, no matter how exceptional, was worth that much. How on earth would he justify this to his family elders?
A wild thought struck Wang Jue as he gazed at the blood-red Demonic Pill on stage. Could it be the Demonic Pill of Lee Jun's cherished black cloud demon tiger?
What else could explain Lee Jun's reckless bidding?
"Will anyone else bid?" the auctioneer's voice quivered.
Bai Jiuyan glanced at Wang Jue, her eyes mocking.
Wang Jue clenched his teeth. He couldn't bid any further. Competing with a lunatic like Lee Jun had no upside. With great reluctance, he set his bidding card down.
The woman in the white suit in front also offered a faint smile and a shake of her head, signaling her withdrawal.
"If there are no further bids, the Demonic Pill will go to Young Master Lee Jun. Let's count down: three, two, one!"
"Crack!"
The auctioneer's gavel struck.
With a crisp sound, Lee Jun made his way through the crowd and leapt onto the stage, breaking protocol.
The security didn't even attempt to stop him; everyone assumed Lee Jun simply wanted a closer look at his prize.
But then, Lee Jun's next move stunned the entire hall.
He shoved the auctioneer aside, seized the microphone, and with narrowed eyes, issued a threat to those below.
"I expect the Nine Hu Auction House to promptly provide me with all the seller's details. I intend to spend this two hundred million on the seller's life."
The crowd erupted into chaos.
What was happening?
What was the Lee family's scion thinking, uttering such a brazen threat in full public view?
In the audience, Mo Fann's demeanor had shifted from relaxed to alert.
He sat up straight, peering at Lee Jun, and in a flash, he pieced together the source of the demonic aura that had recently enveloped Ocean Blue City.
The black cloud demon tiger's backer was none other than him—Lee Jun of the Lee family.
As confusion reigned, the auctioneer, now kneeling before Lee Jun, pleaded in a shaky voice.
"Young Master Lee, our auction house has always maintained the confidentiality of our sellers' identities. Please, don't put me in a difficult position!"
Lee Jun clutched the microphone, his laugh dark and mocking.
With a vicious kick, he sent the auctioneer flying.
The auctioneer's complexion went ghostly pale, his expression contorted in agony.
A gush of blood erupted uncontrollably from his mouth as he twisted midair, then crashed to the ground with a sickening thud. The blood sprayed from his lips traced a brutal arc through the air.
"Ah!"
"Murder! He's murdering him!"
Pandemonium broke out in the auction house as people shrieked and scrambled for the exits.
