C16 Demon Hunter

Amidst the turmoil in Erostey City, stirred by a murder and missing person case, the "instigator" Mo Fann had already returned to his hotel with his wife, Bai Jiuyan. Upon arriving home, Jiuyan slipped away to "shower," a ruse to tend to her wounds without Mo Fann's knowledge. Reluctantly, he let her be, his heart aching with concern.

Meanwhile, Mo Fann retreated to his study, feigning a need for rest. Unfamiliar with the auction house's processes, he doubted the two hundred million would actually land in his account and decided that hunting demon beasts was a more reliable source of income. In his world, ravaged by demons, a structured network of Hunter organizations existed. Hunters were categorized into factions, each with their own websites for recruiting, assigning missions, and trading demon products. Mo Fann, previously ignorant of such matters, had crammed to catch up on this information.

After scrutinizing several websites, he chose the Galaxy Club, the most influential in Erostey. He knew that to thrive in this city, aligning with a powerful local faction was essential. Although there were other prominent clubs, only Galaxy Club had no ties to the Wang and Lee families, whom Mo Fann had inadvertently crossed. Wisely, he avoided further entanglement with them.

Registering an account with Galaxy Club was straightforward, but membership proved more complex. The club, considerate of anonymity, required in-person strength verification at their headquarters. Members could wear masks or disguises and use pseudonyms, but they had to surpass the Profound Level to join. Mo Fann pondered his own capabilities just as Jiuyan gently knocked on his study door.

"Hubby? What are you up to? I've made dinner. Let's eat," she called.

Quickly shutting down his computer, Mo Fann realized he had been engrossed for far too long. Opening the study door, he found Jiuyan proudly presenting her culinary efforts. "How's it look? I cooked it just for you," she beamed.

Inhaling the delicious aroma, Mo Fann embraced her, playfully exclaiming, "Wow, it smells amazing! I'm so lucky to have such a caring and talented wife."

Jiuyan playfully swatted him. "Flatterer," she teased.

Post-dinner, Mo Fann's phone rang—a call from his company. With a hushing gesture to Jiuyan, he answered, puzzled by the timing during his marriage leave. His boss's furious voice erupted from the other end, demanding to know why he hadn't been at work before threatening to fire him if he didn't show up at the office first thing tomorrow morning.

Mo Fann's eyes narrowed. He had taken approved leave, and the wedding was just days ago. The boss's unreasonable demands confirmed Mo Fann's discontent with the job and the company's overbearing ways. It was time for a change.

The boss, not hearing a response, grew more incensed, threatening salary deductions. Unruffled, Mo Fann signaled Jiuyan and retreated to the study to finish the call.

"Boss," Mo Fann retorted coldly, "I've endured your unreasonable demands out of respect for the opportunity you gave me. But I've had enough. Tomorrow, I'll come to the office—not to work, but to resign." The boss's panic was evident even through the phone.

He had gone to great lengths to unearth such a promising worker at such a bargain salary. But now, Mo Fann was spreading his wings, ready to fly away—actually declaring his intent to resign? That simply wouldn't do.

"Hey, hey, hey... Mo... don't be hasty! I can offer you a raise! I can..."

His offer was cut short as Mo Fann coldly ended the call. Engaging in pointless chatter with a boss as stingy as him was the last thing Mo Fann wanted.

After taking a moment to collect himself, Mo Fann stepped out of the study. Bai Jiuyan was up in a bun, busily washing dishes in the kitchen. The sight of her slender, pale neck touched Mo Fann's heart in the tenderest way. He approached and wrapped his arms around her, exhaling a gentle sigh.

With a light chuckle, Bai Jiuyan inquired, "Hubby, what's the matter? Trouble at work?"

Mo Fann nuzzled into Bai Jiuyan's shoulder, then shook his head. "I've got to head to work tomorrow, honey. Will you miss me when I'm gone?"

Bai Jiuyan's cheeks flushed as she blinked. She felt too shy to confess to Mo Fann that each time he left for work, she would visit her own business to oversee operations, always keeping this routine a secret from him.

"Don't worry about me. You go on to work. I've been learning to cook lately, so you'll come home to a meal made by my own hands every day. You don't need to fret—I'll be just fine here by myself."

Just then, a knock sounded at their door. Mo Fann answered it, only to be reminded by the hotel manager that their booking was nearly over.

With a touch of embarrassment, the couple retreated to their room to pack their belongings.

The following morning, they left early, not wishing to impose on their friends and family. Carrying their luggage, they returned to their own home.

This house, a legacy from Mo Fann's parents, had spared them the expense of rent. Yet, the house's quaintness, while suitable for Mo Fann alone, felt somewhat cramped for the two of them living together.
